Looking Back: The Sunbeamers At Relaystock (2024)

It's been a sad time for those in the Sunweaver community. With the passing of Rita Mariner, we naturally look back at happier times, including yours truly. One of the things we took pride in was our efforts to raise money for the Relay for Life in Second Life as Team Sunbeamers. And one of the activities we did every year was taking part in the Relaystock. Sadly, both the Relay Rockers, the team that organized the Relaystock, and Team Sunbeamers, are gone. But we can look back on the memories. A couple years ago, I would write an in-depth article of just went on while the girls danced on stage for an hour, while one guy would live up to a couple bets with mildly embarrassing but funny results.

Cartoon of The Day: Mouse Approved

Taken at Bay City's Food Truck Festival. Among the trucks there was one with wheels of cheese. While real mice prefer grain over cheese, no doubt this much would get a furry mouse's day rolling.

Weekend in Brief

There were a number of happenings this week. This included several Relay for Life fundraising ones. Among them was the seven hours of four DJs playing music at Woodland Groves Theme Park on Saturday March 28, including DJ Cynthia for Team Sunbeamers. The first two DJs raised a total of 44,000 Linden dollars, with the amount the second two raised pending. Sadly the sim the event took place on, Woodland Waves Adventure, may be closing soon.

Among the events on Sunday March 29 was the Bay City Food Truck Festival (which took me by surprise as I never got a press release or saw a mention of it in the Bay City Discord, and only found out when one of the city's gryphon friends told me). For two hours, there was music by DJ GoSpeed Racer while people danced the conga, played with the foam machine, sampled the foods, and voted for the best food truck, the prize going to TJ Hooker's "Adam's Ribs." The trucks stay up to April 15, that is those whose owners aren't worried about "Ever's Night."

More on these events later.

Scenes From Burn2

Burn2, the Second Life version of the real-life Burning Man festival, is going on. Across 12 sims, there are various exhibits and music events going on. While the official entrance at Burning Man-Deep Hole (147/30/24), one can enter on the grounds anywhere.

There are artistic exhibits of all kinds.

This year's theme is "Tomorrow/Today," and some of the exhibits reflected that with retro-future themes.

There were also parties were music was played and people danced.

There were tour balloons people could see the grounds from above with.

Burners would drive around in mutant vehicles

And in the center of the grounds was "The Man," a huge effigy to be burned this Saturday.

Burn2 goes on until about Midnight on Sunday June 26. But the exhibits should be up for a couple more days.

Announcement: Burn2 Octoburn "Tomorrow Today" Starts Tomorrow

It is our tradition in Burn2 to "echo" Black Rock City every year, which includes following Burning Man's announced art theme. In "Tomorrow Today" we invoke an atmosphere like the World's Fairs of yesteryear, "which celebrated not only scientific progress but also cultural exchange and artistic excellence." We infuse our visions and stories within the theme that draw visitors in, to experience the art and music. We can express our envisionings of possible futures, whether utopia, dystopia, or some mixture of the two.

As Burners who hail from many different parts of the world, you can share your culture and creativity through your art, music, and presence.

Live performers who wish to utilise the cozy, laid-back environment of Center Camp or to bring their live performance stage sets to the BOB (Bring Own Build) stage.

We are so excited for you to return, bringing those ideas with you!
We can't wait to see you and say, "Welcome Home!"

Frog Museum And Burn 2's Whimsy

After her recent break, Gemma Cleanslate has been busy.  At Circuit La Corse, she heard about an unusual place: the Frog Museum. Opening in mid-July, it's a celebration of all things froggy, and offers storytime readings. Also, the Burn2 group is about to have their Summer Burn. This year's theme is "Whimsy," and true to it's name all kinds of amusing builds are being set up in Deep Hole. The art and music Festival starts tomorrow, but Gemma had an early look.

The Sunbeamers At Relaystock

Yesterday on June 30, the Relay for Life's fundraising season for 2024 came to a close. Among the teams taking part were the Sunbeamers, which ended at Ruby level and eleventh place. The team had taken part in a number of events to raise money. Among them was the Relaystock in mid-May, a tribute to the noted three day rock music festival in 1969. DJ Cynthia would head a band of dancers on stage. So how well did they do?

Sunbeamer Medieval Fun Faire/Country Music Event In Caledon Downs

from Oldesoul
Over the weekend, much attention was on the upcoming Relay Walk, which was only a week away, with numerous teams getting their camps ready. But some teams were still squeezing in some last events. Among them, Team Sunbeamers, which had it's Medieval Fun Fair on Saturday June 1, hosted by Cynthia Farshore. But it wouldn't be all Medieval.

from Oldesoul
Everyone I remind you that at the Sunbeamer Medieval Fun Fair we are going a bit modern with a great show, the Country Rebels a Garth Brooks cover in one hour, 3pm.

The Newser wasn't there until later in the event, but Oldesoul got some pictures of  Cynthia DJing for the crowd. The Country Rebels were also scheduled to perform, but there were some technical difficulties. There was a stage, presumable supplied by the Rebels. But when the Newser got there, the stage was taken down and people were dancing around on the floor. Over 11,000 L was raised in the music part of the event.

Besides the music, there were a number of activities one would expect from a ren-faire, such as jousting, axe throwing, and a steeplechase horse race. There was at least one prize given out: a medieval style battle axe.

A number of other teams sent someone to the event, such as Purple Tears, the Second Life Cheerleading Squad, Team ACTS, and Roos With A Dream.

The final Sunbeamer event, the last Moon Dance, will be taking place on Thursday, June 6, at 6 PM, in Sunweaver Space.

Addition: We originally stated the Country Rebels performed, but heard there were some technical difficulties. Cynthia stated from 10 to 12 Noon, DJ Kayala and the Roos performed and raised 12,000 for Roos With A Dream. The faire raised a total of $16,345 for the Sunbeamers. The archery and axe throwing contests were won by Wateru Kohime.

Go Sunbeamers! Go Relay!

SL Video "A No Clothes Second Life"

From Merryjest on September 25, "In Second Life, with the new fancy new mesh clothing, if your system or connection is too slow... sometimes people just show up naked around you, TO you, even if they have clothing on. So I wrote a parody song about it."
