SL23B Announced: "The Golden Age of Hollywood," Applications For Exhibitors, Performers, Being Accepted

Earlier today, Linden Lab announced it was planning for the Second Life 23rd Birthday, or SL23B. The theme this year is "The Golden Age of Hollywood."

Save the date! On June 23rd, Second Life turns 23. The 23rd annual Second Life birthday celebration (SL23B) will take place from June 18th through July 19th, 2026. Get ready for a full month of live music, performances, community exhibits, and celebrations across the grid.

This year’s theme is The Golden Age of Hollywood. Think classic cinema, red carpets, vintage glamour, and the magic of the silver screen.

Linden Lab would also announce they were accepting applications for Exhibitors and Performers.

We are inviting Residents from across the community to create non-commercial exhibits that reflect the depth and diversity of Second Life. From art and roleplay to communities, nonprofits, and interactive experiences, exhibits highlight the many ways people connect and create together.

Performances are a major part of the SL birthday celebrations, bringing energy and entertainment to stages throughout the event. We are looking for a wide range of performers to join the festivities. DJs, live musicians, singers, dance troupes, theater groups, particle performers, lecturers, workshop hosts, and community storytellers are all welcome to apply. Performances help create the lively atmosphere that makes the birthday celebration memorable for visitors from around the world.

Those interested in being an exhibitor for the SL23B need to fill out this form on Google docs.  Exhibitors are not required to follow the theme, though "We encourage you to share what makes your Second Life experience meaningful. Your interests. Your communities. Your creativity." Some exhibition sims will be Adult-rated, and you can apply to be in one. It's pointed out an exhibit cannot be commercial and one cannot sell anything there (you can offer gifts) or be blatantly advertising (simple mentions of sponsors are okay). Political messages are considered not appropriate for the celebration, and what is considered hateful content is prohibited. People are asked if they want a small, medium, or large plot, and will need to explain why if they want medium or large, and if it's water or land. As there are a finite number of plots, applying does not guarantee a spot.

For performers, they need to fill out this form on Google docs.  While DJs and live musicians certainly come to mind, there can be others such as comedians, particle show makers, script class teachers, and more. They are also required to show up at least an hour before their sloted time and if late a replacement will be found to fill in the slot. They are also required to bring in their own audio stream. For events in Gemeral-rated sims, the clean versions of songs must be the ones used.

Both those wishing to be exhibitors or performers have until May 18 to apply. Applications for SL23B volunteer staff and shops for the SL23B Shop and Hop will be offered at a later date.

Announcement: Burn2 Octoburn "Tomorrow Today" Starts Tomorrow

It is our tradition in Burn2 to "echo" Black Rock City every year, which includes following Burning Man's announced art theme. In "Tomorrow Today" we invoke an atmosphere like the World's Fairs of yesteryear, "which celebrated not only scientific progress but also cultural exchange and artistic excellence." We infuse our visions and stories within the theme that draw visitors in, to experience the art and music. We can express our envisionings of possible futures, whether utopia, dystopia, or some mixture of the two.

As Burners who hail from many different parts of the world, you can share your culture and creativity through your art, music, and presence.

Live performers who wish to utilise the cozy, laid-back environment of Center Camp or to bring their live performance stage sets to the BOB (Bring Own Build) stage.

We are so excited for you to return, bringing those ideas with you!
We can't wait to see you and say, "Welcome Home!"

SL22B Open For Performer Applications

We are opening applications for the performance schedule. We are looking for all types of performers to join the week-long festivities. Are you a DJ who can spin up a great party set or a live performer who can jam all night? You might be one of the grid’s amazing Dance companies, or perhaps you’re a Particle Performer? One of the things that makes Second Life so vibrant and exciting is the wide range of performers who share their talent with our Residents. Whatever your medium, we would love to hear from you!

Those performers interested in taking part in the event need to fill out a form on Google docs (here). Performers need to show up an hour before their allotted time, there is a land impact limit to whatever props are desired, and while the stage in the adult regions has no restrictions, all others require that all songs must be fit for a general audience (ie clean).

The deadline for performer, and exhibitor, applications is May 19, 2025.

The Holidays of Hope Gala

Sunday December 8 was the last day of the Christmas Expo. Among the events was what could be described as the finale: the Holidays of Hope Gala. A number of avatars large and small dropped over, including two who were normally large dragons who went average size for the dance.

Musicians such as Coralie and Grace Loudon performed for the crowd, who danced away to the music while occasionally dropping in some Lindens into the donation kiosk.

There were other things to do, such as taking a ride on the railroad.

And one could check out the decorated houses. Here, One of the Moles demonstrated a need for practice in parking.

Some of the houses were decorated very colorfully.

With the end of the Expo, there will be no more entries in the auctions and contests, which will presumably announce winners soon, if they haven't already. It is noteable that in the past few years, Linden Lab has used the Expo to introduce a new brand of Linden Home. But this was not the case this year. Perhaps the Lindens are still brainstorming over a unique theme, or perhaps they've been busy fixing bugs.

The Expo is the last of the Relay's spinoff events for the year. But Relayers won't have to wait too long. In about a couple months in February, the official 2025 RFL season will begin.

Go Relay!

EOTB: Applications Being Accepted For SL21B Performers

We are opening applications for the performance schedule. We are looking for all types of performers to join the week-long festivities. Are you a DJ who can spin up a great party set or a live performer who can jam all night? You might be one of the grid’s amazing Dance companies, or perhaps you’re a Particle Performer? One of the things that makes Second Life so vibrant and exciting is the wide range of performers who share their talent with our Residents. Whatever your medium, we would love to hear from you!

For those interested in applying, fill out the form on Google docs (here). Performers need to show up an hour before their scheduled shows, which will last an hour. DJs and live musicians have a small land impact allowance for props, and anything else they may need, within reason "Your DJ set-up should not be an entire stage unto itself."

The deadline to turn in performer applications is on Friday May 31.

The theme for this year's SLB is "Elements." And for those interested in setting up an exhibit, applications are currently being accepted, but there is less time to apply, until Sunday May 12. For those wishing to be volunteer staff, applications are also being accepted, also until Sunday May 12.

Frets Nirvana and US Military Veterans Group announce 2022’s April benefit for Homes For Our Troops in Second Life for April 24, 2022!

Frets Nirvana, longtime supporter and contact for Homes For Our Troops in Second Life in conjunction with the US Military Veterans Group, announces the 2022 April benefit for the Veterans Support Organization Home For Our Troops at Veteran’s Isle .

Frets Nirvana states:  “HFOT is a privately funded 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization building specially adapted, mortgage-free homes nationwide for the most severely injured Veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan. Most of these Veterans are multiple amputees, paraplegic, quadriplegic or suffered severe traumatic brain injury (TBI).  Since its inception in 2004, nearly 90 cents of every dollar spent by Homes for Our Troop has gone to directly support Veterans. DURING THAT TIME HFOT HAS BUILT 330 SPECIALLY ADAPTED HOMES NATIONWIDE FOR EXTREMELY INJURED VETERANS.”

In 2021 the community in Second Life sent  over $21,000 to Homes For Our Troops, thanks to many kind hearts and great Second Life performers. That was a 40% increase over 2020’s donations of over $15,000.

15 Veterans and their families received the keys to their forever homes in 2021 and the donations received in Second Life were part of that effort. Currently HFOT has 73 projects underway for extremely wounded veterans.

Home for Our Troops benefit concerts feature premier Second Life talent monthly at Veteran’s Isle. The April 24 concert for 2022 is scheduled from 10AM to 3PM PST.  Featured artists will be DJ Waya Snowpaw, Russell Eponym, Elvera “English Rose”, Marqs Desade and Chapman Zane.

Interview With Ina Garnier, Producer at The Déjà vu Ballet Troupe

When it comes to what people can do in Second Life, ballet usually isn't the first thing that comes to most people's minds. But there have been dance performances here in the virtual world for many years. Our newest reporter, Michael (Bubblesort Triskaidekaphobia), recently interviewed Ina Garnier, the producer The Déjà vu Ballet Troupe. Ina talked about some of the challenges of doing a ballet show here in Second Life, including what they've done in response to events in Ukraine, where one of the dancers is from.

RFL Home and Garden Expo Starts Today

The Relay for Life's "Home and Garden" Expo starts today, Saturday February 27. For those looking for a new home inworld or furnishings for it, this is a good event to attend. And there's also music performers to listen to.

For a little more than three weeks from now to Sunday March 21, there will be events and shopping across nine sims. The temporary areas, named Hope 1 to Hope 9, are east of the American Cancer Society sim. Unlike some Relay events, one can't just walk from the ACS sim to the adjacent sims. One has to fly or teleport over.

The main stage is on the west side of Hope 1. The other sims are for various shops and other buildings by exhibitors. There are dozens of stores to go to, a list of which can be found here (link). But there are other places, such as the SL Newser, at Hope 4 (40/165/23). There will also be occasional discussions by Saffia Widdershins.

For more on the Expo, check the website at https://slhomegardenexpo.com/ ,  or the inworld group, or it's Discord channel (link). For schedules of performers, click here (link).
