EOTB: Applications Being Accepted For SL23B Shop & Hop

 

For merchants wanting to take part in the Second Life Birthday Shop and Hop event, good news. Yesterday on April 30, Linden Lab announced it was accepting applications for the shopping event. 

 

For those interested, business owners wanting to be part of the event need to fill out an application on Google Docs (here). The SLB Shop and Hop will last for the duration of The Birthday, Thursday, June 18 thru Sunday, July 19. The setup itself will be from Friday June 5 to Monday June 8. Merchants are required to have all items in their store discounted by at least 20 percent, and have at least one available as a gift to anyone, or a gift certificate worth at least 299L, reguardless if they're in the store group or not. Politics is to be avoided, and items not for sale at the store cannot be advertised. 

 

This year, the Shop and Hop sims will be in two areas, one General-rated, and one Adult-rated. So those wanting to be in the Adult area can request it. Those wishing to be part of the General-Audience area need to keep their items and decor fit for the sim rating.  

 

Applications for the Shop and Hop need to be turned in earlier than other SLB applications, by Sunday May 10. Volunteers, Exhibitors and Entertainers need to turn theirs in by May 18.

SLB23B Open To Applications For Volunteer Staff

 

Last week on April 14, Linden Lab announced they were accepting applications by residents wanting to be volunteer staff for the Second Life 23rd Birthday celebrations, or SL23B. 

 

 

We’re looking for volunteers to help bring the celebration to life. SL23B volunteers play an important role in welcoming visitors, assisting with events, and helping guests explore the birthday regions.

We’re seeking Residents with strong people skills, patience, and enthusiasm for sharing the best of Second Life with others. Volunteers help answer questions, guide visitors through the celebration regions, and support the many activities happening throughout the event.

If you enjoy helping others and want to be part of the team that makes SL23B run smoothly, we encourage you to submit a volunteer application ....

 

Those interested in submitting an application need to do so through this Google doc (here).  Besides being courteous, you need to keep your appearance appropriate for a General-audience sim, as well as wearing the group tag and team shirt. You must commit to shifts two hours long and be available for at least a minimum total of eight hours for the event, longer totals very much preferred. And volunteers *must* attend a pre-event training session, with those not showing up removed from the group. And as these are strictly volunteer positions, no compensation in Linden dollars will be offered. 

 

Volunteer applications need to be submitted by Monday May 18.  This is the same date as exhibitors and performers. The information for those wanting to take part in the Shop and Hop is currently pending. 

 

The SL23B will take place from Thursday June 18 to July 19.  The theme this year is The Golden Age of Hollywood.

SL23B Announced: "The Golden Age of Hollywood," Applications For Exhibitors, Performers, Being Accepted

 

 Earlier today, Linden Lab announced it was planning for the Second Life 23rd Birthday, or SL23B. The theme this year is "The Golden Age of Hollywood."

 

Save the date! On June 23rd, Second Life turns 23. The 23rd annual Second Life birthday celebration (SL23B) will take place from June 18th through July 19th, 2026. Get ready for a full month of live music, performances, community exhibits, and celebrations across the grid.

This year’s theme is The Golden Age of Hollywood. Think classic cinema, red carpets, vintage glamour, and the magic of the silver screen. 

 

Linden Lab would also announce they were accepting applications for Exhibitors and Performers.

 

We are inviting Residents from across the community to create non-commercial exhibits that reflect the depth and diversity of Second Life. From art and roleplay to communities, nonprofits, and interactive experiences, exhibits highlight the many ways people connect and create together.

 

 

Performances are a major part of the SL birthday celebrations, bringing energy and entertainment to stages throughout the event. We are looking for a wide range of performers to join the festivities. DJs, live musicians, singers, dance troupes, theater groups, particle performers, lecturers, workshop hosts, and community storytellers are all welcome to apply. Performances help create the lively atmosphere that makes the birthday celebration memorable for visitors from around the world. 

 

Those interested in being an exhibitor for the SL23B need to fill out this form on Google docs.  Exhibitors are not required to follow the theme, though "We encourage you to share what makes your Second Life experience meaningful. Your interests. Your communities. Your creativity." Some exhibition sims will be Adult-rated, and you can apply to be in one. It's pointed out an exhibit cannot be commercial and one cannot sell anything there (you can offer gifts) or be blatantly advertising (simple mentions of sponsors are okay). Political messages are considered not appropriate for the celebration, and what is considered hateful content is prohibited. People are asked if they want a small, medium, or large plot, and will need to explain why if they want medium or large, and if it's water or land. As there are a finite number of plots, applying does not guarantee a spot. 

 

For performers, they need to fill out this form on Google docs.  While DJs and live musicians certainly come to mind, there can be others such as comedians, particle show makers, script class teachers, and more. They are also required to show up at least an hour before their sloted time and if late a replacement will be found to fill in the slot. They are also required to bring in their own audio stream. For events in Gemeral-rated sims, the clean versions of songs must be the ones used. 

 

Both those wishing to be exhibitors or performers have until May 18 to apply. Applications for SL23B volunteer staff and shops for the SL23B Shop and Hop will be offered at a later date.

EOTB: Call For Merchants For Christmas Shop And Hop, Ends November 2

 

It's not even Halloween, and already Linden Lab is getting ready for Christmas. Yesterday on the official blog, the Lab announced they were accepting applications for those wanting shops in the 2025 Holiday Shop and Hop.

 

 Halloween may still be spookily lingering, but we’re already brewing up plans for the festive season! We’re excited to announce the return of our highly anticipated Holiday Shop & Hop event. Mark your calendars for a spectacular shopping extravaganza starting on December 5th, 2025, and running through January 4th, 2026. Get ready for a festive shopping experience like no other!

 

 Those merchants interested need to fill out a form on Google Docs (here). The following conditions apply:

 

* Merchants are required to provide a NEW non-group gift.
* Merchants are required to have at least a 20% discount on ALL items present at the Shop and Hop location.
* Items need to be appropriate for a moderate audience and adhere to the Linden Lab ToS.
* Content should not contain or reference political issues or figures.
* All items displayed and/or advertised in the Shop and Hop store MUST be for sale at the Shop and Hop for the duration of the event. This means you can not use the Shop and Hop to promote items for sale at other events. 

 

The setup period is Nov 5 to Dec 1, and merchants will be asked what they sell the most of and it is reminding that applying does not guarantee a spot.

 

The Lab would remind people that the Halloween Shop and Hop is still going on, and invite people to check it out.

EOTB: New Senra Starter Avatars Now Availabler

 

When Patch Linden spoke at the SL20B a little more than a month ago, he stated that the first of the new starter avatars that were announced last year were almost ready. On Tuesday August 1, Linden Lab announced that two were ready for use by both newcomers and existing residents, the Senra avatars. 

We're excited to announce the launch of our new Starter Avatars! These avatars, called Senra, are a fresh mesh take on the classic Second Life avatar, with a customizable modern and stylish look. These avatars will give new residents the opportunity to get started with a mesh body and personalize their own unique look the very first time they log in to Second Life and get a taste for the endless possibilities of avatar customization available to SL Residents.

The Senra avatars come with a variety of body shapes, skins, and hair styles. We've also created a whole new wardrobe of clothes that are specifically designed for these avatars. There are more than a billion possible combinations, so you're sure to find the perfect look.  The Senra avatars and clothing have been designed so that any avatar looks great with any clothing. Mix and match to your heart’s content!

We're also pleased to announce that we'll be providing dev kits for creators to make their own clothes for the Senra avatars. That way new and established residents alike will have plenty of ways to express themselves and create amazing new looks for the Senra avatars. 

 

For newcomers, the avatars are now available at the start, as demonstrated by this SL University Youtube video. For existing residents, the avatars are already in inventories (those who have left their avatars inworld for a few days may need to relog), "Search for 'Senra' and you will find the full variety of clothing and bodies." 

 

The Lab invited content creators to make clothing and other items for the avatars on a Fashion thread in the official forums, Patch Linden saying, those interested needed to read a license agreement, technical information, and fill out an application process. But the reaction in the forum thread was mixed. Some were having issues with some details in the license agreement, "This is pretty much (dead on arrival)," and there were opinions that some questions raised about the avatars at the SL20B such as the polygon count were not listened to. Others went to the Lab's defense, "The Senra system seems to be intentionally unlike the current system, which new users find to be extremely confusing and difficult to learn to use. And if they don't have strict rules about it, it will become just another body option, and very unapproachable just like the rest."

How well will the new starter avatars do? Will they get more use by residents, or be just that to most, a start that will soon be replaced after a few days? Time will tell.

EOTB: Volunteers Can Now Apply to SL18B

 

A week after the Lab announced it was accepting applications for exhibitors for the Second Life Eighteenth Birthday event, it's now doing the same for those whom wish to be among the volunteers for the anniversary event of this virtual world. The announcement went up Monday March 29.

We’re looking for volunteers to help people celebrate at the upcoming 18th annual Second Life birthday celebration (SL18B), held June 17th to July 1st, 2021. We are seeking Residents with great people skills and a love and excitement for Second Life to help us make SL18B a huge success! If you like the idea of promoting Second Life in a positive way to thousands of people in a celebratory atmosphere, we welcome you to apply today! The application will remain open through May 28th.

Those wishing to volunteer are asked to fill out a form (click here). Applications will be accepted until May 28, the same date as when exhibitor applications close. Of the Music Fest, the last day to turn in applications for their auditions was Saturday March 26.

On Friday, Linden Lab announced the theme for the Second Life 18th Birthday, the official anniversary event of this virtual world, "Hidden Worlds." It would also announced they were now accepting applications by exhibitors for the event. 

This June, Second Life will be turning 18! The 18th annual Second Life birthday celebration (SL18B) will be held from June 17th to July 1st. Get ready for fun-filled weeks of live music, performances, shopping, and amazing community exhibits!

This year’s theme for SL18B is Hidden Worlds, but don’t think that limits you! Just like last year, your exhibit does not need to stay in theme. If you are inspired by the thought of the hidden worlds around you, show us! Or, share your Second Life passions with us. Your interests. Your communities. Your worlds! Every year we celebrate because of you, the amazing and creative Residents, who have chosen to call Second Life home. What has drawn you into this world and what keeps you here? This year at the eighteenth annual Second Life Birthday, show us what fuels your Second Life and inspires you. Let's go exploring!

For those wanting to take part as exhibitors, they need to fill out a form (link here). Near the top, it states there's been some changes since last year, so read through them. Among the rules are that the exhibits shouldn't be commercial, should have a general rating, can't have any "bots," and more. Exhibitors may ask for two co-builders to be allowed to build at the plot. Exhibit plots need to be claimed by June 1, and all builds finished for inspection by June 9.

The deadline to apply is May 28. The Lab has reminded that applying is no guarantee of being accepted. There are not yet applications for volunteers or performers, though people wishing to apply for those are asked to keep an eye out "over the next few months." There was also a reminder for the call for musicians for Music Fest.

Celebrate Remember Fight Back Top DJ Fundraising Competition

The Relay Rockers announced today plans for the return of the Celebrate - Remember - Fight Back Top DJ Fundraising Competition to support the Relay For Life of Second Life and the American Cancer Society.  The competition, which brings together some of Second Life’s best club and radio presenters, has raised more than $25,000 (L$6,000,000) since it was introduced in 2012.

The competition is open to the first 20 DJs to apply using our Online Application (https://relayrockers.org/crfb-top-dj-competition-2019/). Participants can choose to perform at the Rocker’s home region Arinultra Cay, or may compete at their own venue.  The Top DJ Competition will run for 4 weeks, from March 30th through April 28th, with a maximum of 5 competitors each week.  The Relay Rockers will work with each entrant to assure their selected time options can be met.

Competition applications must be completed before March 25th.

The Relay Rockers will provide all venues with an official Relay For Life of Second Life kiosk, set to the team. A representative of the Rockers must be present during the 1 hour competition and will work with venue host and make announcements of Relay and Society information during the event.

The Top 4 DJs in will move to the semifinal round to be held at Arinultra Cay on the weekend of May 4th and 5th and compete in 1 hour sets. There will be no carry over of totals from previous rounds. Previous round totals will be used only to determine seeding and as a tie-breaker. The 2 presenters with the highest Semi Final Total will compete 90 minute sets for the 2019 CRFB Top DJ trophy at the 2019 RelayStock Multiteam Event.
