Yesterday in the official Second Life blog, Linden Lab announced the schedule of the upcoming SL20B Music Fest.

Are you ready for this year’s SL20B Music Fest?

From June 22nd to the 24th, go on an interstellar journey through sound and emotions, as the crème de la crème of Second Life's live musicians set the SL20B Mandala Stage ablaze with spellbinding performances!

The schedule for the three day event was listed on the post, most of the names having clickable links. There's thirty musicians in all playing such as Frogg Marlowe and Jaycatt Nico (aka Effinjay) and  Maximillion Kleene.

But there's more going on than just the Music Fest.

But wait, there's more! Hold on to your (virtual) hats because the euphoria doesn’t wind down after Music Fest. The SL20B celebrations are set to reach stratospheric heights with a staggering 500+ performers ready to take over four majestic stages! This is not just a party; it’s a festival of boundless energy and musical marvels that promises to engulf your senses.

To better keep an eye on what's going on, be sure to regularly check the calendar of SL20B events (here).

EOTB: SL20B Open For Applications For Music Fest And General Performers

The big news about Linden Lab's announcement a few days ago was that they had chosen the theme and logo for this year's Second Life Birthday: "Our Fantastic Future." But there was more. They were also accepting applications for positions at the event as general performers, and applications for positions in the Music Fest.

... we are opening applications for Music Fest, to be held on June 22nd-24th. Music Fest will kick off the overall SL20B celebration with three days of live music performances featuring some of the most talented live musicians in Second Life! ... We are also opening up applications for the general performance schedule. Why celebrate for one day when we can party for a week?! We are looking for all types of performers to join the week-long festivities from June 25th to July 2nd. Are you a DJ who can spin up a great party set or a live performer who can jam all night? You might be one of the grid’s amazing Dance companies, or perhaps you’re a Particle Performer? One of the things that makes Second Life so vibrant and exciting is the wide range of performers who share their talent with our Residents. Whatever your medium, we would love to hear from you!

To apply for the SLB Music Fest, one needs to fill out this Google doc (link). The doc needs to be filled out by April 9. While musicians were paid by the Lab in past years, it will not be the case this year but they can still rezz a tip jar, and 350 prims (LI) worth of props. It is to be understood that this is a family-friendly event, and song lyrics must be G-rated. Performance times are an hour each, and showing up on time is necessary to take part. Musicians must also be able to use the event's own stream.

To apply to be an SLB general performer, you need to fill out this Google doc (link). Conditions are much the same as Music Fest Musicians. But if the performance is a group one, such as a dance troope, the prim allowance for props will be raised to 1000 prims (LI). Changes of information, such as names, and time are allowed up to 48 hours of the event.

No applications are available for event volunteer staff yet. Presumably they will be out soon.

The Music Fest itself runs from Thursday June 22 to Sunday June 24. The SL20B goes on from Thursday June 22 to Tuesday July 11. The Music Fest began in 2015 in the days when Second Life Birthdays were run not by the Lab, but by a resident-run volunteer team. It would be the start of Linden Lab's gradual re-involvement in the Second Life Birthday. Eventually, the Lab would take full control of the SLB events, but the Music Fest would remain.

EOTB: "SL17B Music Fest Lineup and Schedule"

The Second Life Seventeenth Birthday event is almost here. For the past few years, Linden Lab has organized a music event alongside the SLB, the Music Fest. Starting as the Linden-run event around the time of the last few resident-run SLB celebrations, when the Lab resumed full control of "The Birthday" last year, Music Fest continued to run in addition to the performances there. On the Linden blog on Monday, the Music Fest "Lineup and Schedule" was announced.

Many of the top performers in Second Life have come together to perform live at this special two-day music event, held June 19-20 at the SL17B Live Stage. Here’s your chance to celebrate Second Life’s 17th Birthday while experiencing some fantastic talent that you won’t want to miss.

Although the Music Fest is just for Friday and Saturday, June 19 and 20, there will be DJs and live musicians throughout the length of the Second Life Birthday.

Eye On The Blog: Lab Gab Friday, Music Fest Auditions Signups, Second Life Marketing

In the past week, there have been some noteworthy entries in the official Second Life blog.

A few days ago, Linden Lab announced that they are accepting applications for the Second Life Seventeenth Birthday Music Fest auditions.

Full details of this year’s SL17B event will be revealed soon...but to get things started we are opening up the sign-up process now for auditions for the annual Music Fest, to be held June 19-20. Music Fest will kick off the overall SL17B celebration with two days of live music performances featuring some of the most talented musicians in SL!

Are you a new or veteran Second Life musician that wants to participate? Over a dozen performers will be chosen to share their musical talents with the Second Life community in an event that has become an SLB tradition. We welcome performers to apply and join us in wishing Second Life "Happy Birthday!"

Those interested in taking part should sign the application form, no later than May 18.  The Lab reminded readers that signing up is no guarantee of being guaranteed a spot in the auditions.

Also, there was an announcement that this Friday, March 6 at 11 AM will be the next episode of the "Lab Gab" show. Host Strawberry Linden will be interviewing two members of Second Life's Marketing team: Brett and Darcy Linden.

Join our host, Strawberry Linden, as she speaks with two members of our Marketing team. Brett Linden is the Senior Director of Marketing and Darcy Linden is the Senior Marketing Manager. They will be talking about the 2020 Roadmap for Marketing Second Life.

Those whom have a marketing-themed question they'd like Brett and Darcy Linden to answer can submit it on this form.  There is no guarantee of it being answered. The episode can be seen tomorrow (Friday) at 11 AM SL time on Youtube.

Brett Linden himself would make a post on the official blog, titled "The Heart and Science of Second Life Marketing."

We’ve gotten quite a few questions lately about how we market Second Life to potential new residents. Insight into our current and future marketing strategies is important because it provides a glimpse into our efforts to help grow the Second Life population and economy as it enters its 17th year of operations. That’s why our current Marketing team has been working hard over the past year to sharpen our growth initiatives with more efficient and targeted campaigns that reach across many paid, organic and social channels. Keep reading to learn what we’re doing now and in the near future.

The blog post was quite detailed and had much to say. Some of it will be covered of course on the Lab Gab show tomorrow.

Applications Being Accepted For SL16B Live Music Faire Auditions

On Wednesday May 22, Linden Lab announced it was taking applications for the live music event for Second Life's sixteenth anniversary, the "SL16B Live Music Faire."

In recent years we’ve taken the popular idea of music festivals and brought them into the virtual world - all the music, merriment, and good times without the sunburn. Last year marked the 4th Music Fest, and this year, things are going to be a little different! We do have a Music Faire that we’re very excited to announce! Like Music Fest, Music Faire is a way to enjoy a ton of live music within Second Life as part of the birthday celebrations.

We’re holding an audition showcase to highlight some of the musical talent in the Second Life community. Many of you have been performing for years in virtual venues all over the grid, and we’d love to have you come showcase your talent. All genres are welcome! From bands to solo acts, rock and roll to electronica - we encourage anyone to sign up for consideration.

Those wanting to sign up for auditions are asked to complete an application on the signup page (here) by Saturday June 1. "While we encourage everyone to sign up," Linden Lab stated, "it is not a commitment on your part and does not guarantee a spot at the auditions." Invitations to the auditions will be sent via notecard and/or email.

The dates and times of the auditions are as follows:

May 27, 2019 6 AM - 6 PM (SLT)
May 28, 2019 6 AM - 6 PM (SLT)
May 29, 2019 6 AM - 6 PM (SLT)
May 30, 2019 6 AM - 6 PM (SLT)
May 31, 2019 6 AM - 3 PM (SLT)
June 3, 2019 6 AM - 6 PM (SLT)
June 4, 2019 6 AM - 6 PM (SLT)
June 5, 2019 6 AM - 6 PM (SLT)
June 6, 2019 6 AM - 6 PM (SLT)
June 7, 2019 6 AM - 3 PM (SLT)

The location will be given "in a future blogpost." Every musician will have five minutes at most to play.

The Lab also stated it was extending Exhibitor and Performer applications to Friday May 31. Merchant applications for the shopping event will close a day later.

SL16B Theme Announced

Yesterday on Thursday March 14, Linden Lab made it's first announcement about the upcoming Second Life Sixteenth Birthday event, or the SL16B as it's called for short. The theme of the anniversary celebration will be "Sweet Sixteen."

It feels like we just packed away all that crystal magic from our 15th anniversary celebration, but our sweet sixteen is just around the corner! This summer, we’re throwing a huge celebration to commemorate 16 years with this incredible community and we wanted to fill you in on just a few of the details.

Sixteen years ago, on June 23rd, 2003, Second Life launched to the public. Though it feels like just yesterday and a lifetime ago at the same time, this year we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to go retro and embrace the “Sweet Sixteen” theme for our big party. Sock hops, bowling alleys, and late nights at the diner were a quintessential part of many teenagers lives back in the 1950s, but the 1950s were also a time of political and social change. The world was shocked by the iconic ‘Elvis pelvis,’ and poodle and pencil skirts changed the fashion world forever. Rebellion became the titillating pastime among all that soda shoppe sweetness. It was an era that - like Second Life - rocked and rolled! So, this summer we’re throwing a 1950s themed SL16B with a TON of fun events and happenings. ...

The Lab also stated as in previous recent Second Life Birthdays, there will be a Music Fest and a shopping event. Merchants wanting to take part are asked to fill out a form (link). There will also be a "Come As You Were" party and another "Swaginator" gift hunt "with some updates and changes based on feedback" from last year's.

The event is scheduled to run from June 20 to July 8.

Stay tuned for more information on what's sure to be one of the big events of the year inworld.

Eye on the Blog: "Second Life 15th Birthday Kickoff - A Tapestry of Time"

With the SL15B in full swing, on Monday, Linden Lab posted on the official blog about the celebration, and the many things you can see, hear, do, and find.

As Second Life turns 15, we look to the past, present and into the future of what makes this such an incredible community and place. The theme we chose for this year’s celebration is ‘Crystal’ - and it seemed the perfect theme for a year in which we want to reflect on Second Life’s incredible history, embrace its thriving present, and look forward to its exciting future.

As we met to discuss all the things we wanted to do this year, the idea of a ‘tapestry of time’ came up again and again. Imagine a bazaar filled with colorful tents and tapestries from all walks of life. As you move through the street you encounter wonderfully diverse and interesting people, each bringing something unique to contribute to the bustle of the bazaar. As you pause to take in the sights and sounds, you glimpse a woman sitting at a table inside one of the tents, her crystal ball shimmering on the table in front of her as she looks you in the eye and invites you to come sit and see what the past, present, and future of Second life have in store for you.

Every year, Linden Lab has had a present for the residents. This time, the Lab is ramping things up a bit by making it a "Weekly Gift Grab" in which residents can get a new gift every week for the next fifteen weeks, to Sept. 24.

For the next 15 weeks, we’ll be releasing a different crystal-themed gift each week. All you have to do is find and collect the gifts. Each fabulous gift is available for one week only, and in one Region only. The Region will change each week, and we'll be publishing clues each week to help you find the Region to search for that week's gift – watch the Second Life social media channels and the Blog at for the clues.

The "Swaginator HUD" to find the items in the Gift Grab is at SL15B Fascinate (168/120/26). Then one looks for the weekly clue posted by Linden Lab, then searches for the item. The Lab promises a "super-special prize" in the last week, Sept 17-24, in which to acquire, you'll need to have gotten the previous 14 items.

The Lab mentioned two parties this week at the SL15B Cake Stage, with contests which they offered prizes to winners. These are the "Come As You Were" aka the newbie party that took place on Monday, and the Crystal Ball Party and Costume Contest, which is Wednesday June 20 from 7-9PM.

The Lab also mentioned their SL15B Shopping Event.

For the first time ever - we’ve gathered 80 of Second Life’s Merchants across 4 Regions for  one big shopping extravaganza that you don’t want to miss! Each Merchant is providing a free gift in celebration of this landmark birthday and offering incredible deals on some of their most popular items. In addition, many will also be participating in a sale on the Marketplace as well. Visit each Region below to get a little celebratory shopping in, grab free gifts, and take advantage of the amazing discounts. A full list of participating Merchants is available here. Many of the Merchants are also participating in a Marketplace sale, so be sure to visit them in the web as well as inworld!

You can visit any of the 4 Regions from the Destination Guide.

And Linden Lab also announced the line-up and schedule for their SL15B Music Fest, "In tradition of the last several Second Life birthdays, we have three days of incredible live music lined up for you!"

The event runs from Friday June 22 to Sunday June 24, with all performances on Stage Left at SL15B Mesmerize (128/227/25). You can find the scheduled line-up of musicians on the webpage here, "though may be subject to changes because that’s showbiz!"

Last but not least, the "Meet the Lindens" interviews by Saffia Widdershins at the Auditorium were mentioned, going from Monday to Friday at 2PM. The interview tomorrow is with CEO Ebbe Altberg/Ebbe Linden.

That's a lot of stuff to digest - and it's just the beginning! See you inworld, Second Life Residents - and thank you for making this place for the last 15 years, and the next 15 to come!

Linden Lab Announces Fourth Annual Music Fest, Auditions for, in June

Although Linden Lab hasn't been involved with the Second Life Birthday event since 2011, in recent years it has been increasingly involved with helping to celebrate the virtual world's anniversary. In 2015, they announced and then held their first "Music Fest" event, taking place at the same time as the Second Life Birthday. At first, these events were held separately from the SLB grounds. But later have been held there as part of the mega-event. On Monday, Xiola Linden announced the Fourth Annual Music Fest would be taking place this June, and that early in the month there would be auditions for musicians interested in playing.

This June, Second Life turns 15 and we’re planning some fun ways to honor this long-standing community and invite some of the rest of the world to come check out what makes us so special! Stay tuned to this blog for more details about events to come and read on to find out about the first of many - our annual Music Fest - sponsored by Linden Lab.

In recent years we’ve taken the popular idea of music festivals and brought them into the virtual world - all the music, merriment, and good times without the sunburn. This year will mark the 4th annual Music Fest in celebration of Second Life - and we can’t wait to get grooving.

Since we started Music Fest in Second Life, we’ve held an audition showcase to highlight some of the musical talent in the Second Life community. Many of you have been performing for years in virtual venues all over the grid, and we’d love to have you come showcase your talent at the tryouts for this summer Music Fest. All genres are welcome! From bands to solo acts, rock and roll to electronica - we encourage anyone to sign up for consideration. The Second Life Music Fest is an opportunity to perform at one of the biggest celebrations in Second Life, and it’s a paid gig!

Unlike the performers volunteering for the main Second Life Birthday event, Linden Lab promises to pay the musicians in it's event a little cash. Those trying out for auditions need to fill out a form online (link here). Musicians are requested to define their type of music, and while not required are requested to provide links of any music they have online.

The audition times are Friday June 1 at 12 Noon to 2PM, and Saturday June 2 from 6 to 8PM SL time.

Linden Lab Announces Music Fest Schedule, Two Costume Party Events

Xiola Linden posed in the Linden blog yesterday June 13 about the schedule for events sponsored and arranged by Linden Lab for Second Life's anniversary. First of all mentioned was the shopping event organized by Linden Lab going on until June 26. Then she mentioned their Music Fest.

We are going to rock the Grid with three days of music - from Italian Opera to full on Psychedelic Rock - and you won’t want to miss out on that. Our 3rd Annual Music Fest is coming, and so much cooler than Coachella - literally, you can blast the air conditioning or fans from the comfort of your computer! Details about lineup and location to come - but be sure to save the dates, get your tail feathers ready to shake, and find those ‘rock on’ bento gestures for the show!

The event takes place over three days, Friday June 23 to Sunday June 25, with four hours of music each day. On June 23, the action takes place from 11AM to 3PM. The location and lineup were not given out yet.

But this wasn't all. Xiola announced a couple "costume party" events for the anniversary, "Come As You Were," a "noob" avatar themed party, and a "Masquerade Ball." Both will be at the "Cake Stage" at the SL14B grounds.

We will be hosting two costume parties inworld - Come as You Were, and a Masquerade Ball. We all come into this (virtual) world as total n00bs, and the Come as You Were party is a nod to those days of yore - whether it was yesterday or over a decade ago. Put your best Ruth forward, as there’s a costume contest and a L$5000 prize on the line! We’re also hosting a Masquerade/Masked Ball - where mystique and intrigue are sure to reign supreme! There is also a L$5000 prize for the best at the ball! Both parties will take place at the Cake Stage in the SL14B Community Celebration Regions - stay tuned for details once those locations go live! Those Regions will also be home to where you can pick up a special commemorative avatar and bonus gift from the Lab.

Xiola also mentioned the resident-run SL14B, and posted the link on the Destination Guide to SL14B events, and asked residents planning any other special events for the anniversary to contact them about it.

Scenes From the SL12B

Friday June 26 was the start of the SL12B "Music Fest" sponsored by Linden Lab. Taking place at the Ixtlan Stage at SL12B Dazzle, among the performers were Jaycatt and Frogg at 12:30 SL time. Taking place in a packed sim, a friend who requested a teleport from me was blocked from coming in. Among those who were there was Xiola Linden. With the lag, not everybody rezzed on my viewer, such as performer Frogg, whose amphibian av was showing only his head, hands and feet.

Friday at 1PM was the "Meet and Greet" with Ebbe Linden, the last one for the SL12B. While I got there early, there was a sim restart, so had to hop away. But by the time I tried to teleport back, both sims were full. The best I could do was listen in from the outskirts, which a number of others had to as well. Others with me included Pygar Blu, Catboy Qunhua, and Kenny Luckless.

Gemma Cleanslate was there, so her article about Ebbe's interview will be available later.

Saturday and Sunday mark the last two days, officially, of the Birthday. As it turns out, yours truly has to work in real-life, so that cuts down on time for both exploring, seeing, and writing. But the sims will be up for a few days afterwards for both those whose computers couldn't handle the lag, and those wanting to see what they missed.
