Haunted Area in Sunweaver Bay

In the Sunweaver community, there's now something for those who enjoy a good Halloween haunt. "A Little Odd Place," in Sunweaver Bay and owned by BrianL61 Landar, now has a haunted house, with a maze and graveyard in the back.

The old house itself has a lot of skeletons in and around it. Some are animated, some static. There are also a few with funny captions over them, such as a one-legged skelly telling a buddy "Friggin dog grabbed my leg again!" The dining room is also animated, with ghosts setting up the table and food floating over.

Behind the house was a maze, which you need to traverse to get to in order to get to the last area. It isn't too difficult to get through (especially if you can pan around and look from above).

Getting past the maze, you see the third part of the area, the graveyard and mausoleum. There are more skeletons in various poses, and a few witting sayings on the graves, "As you now are, so I once was. As I am now, so you will be."

A spooky fun place that isn't gory or too terrifying.

The Gacha Guild Halftime Hunt And The Furry Fashion Halloween Area

It's Halloween, and the last day to enjoy some Halloween events. Two offer spooky thrills as well as prizes. At the Gacha Guild, it's the last day to take part in their Halftime Hunt. Head to the grounds, find the huge spooky head, check the board on how to play and get the HUD and flashlight, then go through the head's mouth, and enter the dark carnival.

The game promises prizes for those who look long enough, click on the ravens, as well as a story about what happened. A short look revealed nothing of either. Just be careful of where you step, of you'll be sent back to a respawn point.

 http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Dew%20Drop/162/168/1128

One of the Gacha Guild participants, Furry Fashion, also has it's own Halloween Area, complete with a maze with treasures to find.

The maze itself has a few rooms, divided by a maze of caverns. Click on the globes to get the prizes. But of course there's plenty of sights. There's also a photo contest going on, so if you see a great scene, take some pictures.

Jasmine Dawn on The Halloween Haunt And Her New Computer

Halloween is here, and it's time for clubs across Second Life to do something for spooky fun. Some just put up a few small decorations. But the Happy Vixen goes all out with a special Halloween area. For these builds, Jasmine Dawn has graciously donated her time so others can have a little spooky fun. This year, she had planned a challenging maze and a spooky house. But trouble came when unexpected computer trouble broke her machine. Fortunately, help would soon be on the way, and she was able to complete her creation. Yours truly would have a few words with her about the maze, and the effort to get her a new computer.

Shockwave's Easter Maze

Every Easter (real-life permitting), Shockwave Yareach has always had a holiday-themed game for his fellow Sunweavers, and their friends. This year, it's a maze in which you have to find all the Easter eggs inside. The place is located high above the Sunweaver Eclipse sim.

Going to the entrance, you'll see a chocolate bunny. Clicking it, you'll get a basket, which you wear or attach. There's also a set of instructions.

When you got this notecard, you also recieved "EasterBasket012".  You must wear this during the egg hunt.  When you find an egg, simply touch it and the egg will appear in your basket.  It's just that simple.  You also get a copy of the egg that you can put out in your home or in your garden -- pretty.

But... you have to FIND them all first.  And thats not so easy.

First of all, they are in a 120m x 120m maze.  Aaaand, they move around the sim!

And did I mention, the eggs are small and hard to spot?

Not all is lost though, brave egg chaser!  Because most of the sides of the maze are not walled in.  This means, you can look in and try to find a route to eggs within the maze.  You don't have to make your way through the entire maze to reach an egg -- only part of it.  Work as a team, one person guiding and the other hunting!  Get all 14 eggs and win a special prize!

Good luck and most of all, have fun!!

Taking a look myself, it didn't take too long to find three eggs. Obviously though, the more you find, the harder the remainder will be to locate. Shockwave didn't say how long the maze will be up, though it should still be around up to a few days after Easter.

Shockwave's Haunted Maze And The Angels' Haunted Mansion

Halloween has come to the Sunweaver community. Already, it's residents have two places within their estate lands to have some spook-tacular fun. Shockwave Yareach has a maze with a cash prize for the first ones to successfully brave the traps and monsters and walk out with the treasures. Jasmine Dawn offers the Happy Vixen's Haunted Mansion, which will be both the location for the beach club's events, and offers a mystery to solve, and a prize for those who can.

The Calas Galadhon Haunted Maze

Gemma Cleanslate's travels took her back to a favorite location, Calas Galadhon Park. The owners Ty Tenk and Truck Meredith often have something new and interesting for Halloween. Last year, they had a sci-fi horror exhibit. This year, they have a maze to try and get through. Unfortunately, navigating the passages is just one of the challenges. You also have to fight all sorts of monsters trying to eat you.

Shockwave's "Alien Egg Hunt" Is Back

Shockwave Yareach's "Alien Egg Hunt" is back. In the past, it was a twisted take on an Easter egg hunt. But it fits in fine with Halloween. Players take on the role of someone searching the spaceship "Nostromo" for alien eggs and creatures. To play the game, you need a HUD, which can be picked up at the maze's start, and a gun that can function in the game. You can buy the one at the start for ten Lindens, or use your own. For the later, test it on the display egg to make sure it works.

For more information on the game, read Grease Coake's article from 2013.

Last Weekend at the Roma Festival

While still stuck in the Tokushi tiny fox avatar from the Fox Avatar Challenge, last Sunday I checked out the Roma festival, which was centered around the Roman goddess Ceres, their goddess of agriculture (of whom the dwarf planet Ceres is named after, and whom the word "cereal" can be traced). A few Romans, familiar with my usual Lusk fox avatar, asked what happened, and I explained it was part of a Relay event, so they accepted it in stride, one roleplaying her action, wondering if I'd been put under a curse of some kind. I suppose to them, with my size I looked more like a fox than ever, just standing on the hindpaws, wearing a hat, and talking.

After a roleplay ritual to honor the goddess Ceres and ask her blessing for the farmers and ctops, the group headed to a corn maze. Here, we were told that an image of Ceres' daughter Persephone was somewhere in there. We were to head there, take one of the pomegranates, and head to the exit. The first three to finish would get a prize. A voice which someone thought was Ceres encouraged us as we went along. Someone joked that maybe someone would get lost there for good, but the referee grinned, saying they hadn't lost anyone yet.

Those familiar with Greco-Roman myths may recall Persephone had been abducted by the god of the Underworld, and while there had eaten several seeds of one of the fruits from a tree which had bloomed after her arrival. Normally anyone whom ate anything in the Underworld would be trapped forever, but a deal was worked out so she only spent part of the year there, during which the land would cool and become less suitable for farming as Ceres was depressed over her daughter being away.

And as it turned out, yours truly found one of the pomegranates and was the second one out. I got a 500 Linden prize for my efforts.

The Roma historical community has festivals at the last weekend of every month, and unlike some historic areas, avatars of all kinds from furs to tinies to ponies are welcome.

Aero Pines Harvest Festival and Halloween Trail

On the lookout for Halloween Haunts, Gemma Cleanslate found some at a familiar place: Areo Pines Park. The park changes with the season, and with the fall comes the Autumn Festival. But it's also the season of spooky fun as October 31st approaches, so the staff added some chills and thrills at a place more noted for nature trails and horseback riding. Gemma took a look, and was not disappointed.

Happy 11th Birthday SL!

By Grey Lupindo

The birthday celebrations for Second Life are always special for me because my first visit, many years ago, led to me becoming a news reporter here in SL.   I always look forward to the creativity, beauty, and great people that I meet there each year.   This year’s celebration features 8 areas – Astound, Beguile, Enchant, Fascinate, Pizzazz, Spectacular, Spellbound, and Wonderous – with hundreds of things to do and see.   But it was fitting that I started my visit at the SL Newser building, located on Fascinate at SLNewser Office Building, SL11B Fascinate #20, SL11B Fascinate (78, 87, 21).
We have a great view from the conference room floor.  Early Monday morning I met up with fellow reporter Gemma Cleanslate, and we chatted a few minutes about the sights of SL11B.  After you check out the views, you can look at the cartoons to start your tour with a laugh.   On the second and third floor you will find our pictures, which link to our favorite articles.   I’m sure you’ll want to re-read all of them.
I met Motoko (marisa.warrhol) while she was visiting the news office.   She recommended that I see The Blackened Mirror, a nearby build by Aisling Sinclair.   This build is a movie set that lets you become part of the action.    Motoko said the movie set was awesome, and I agree.    It is located at L11B The Blackened Mirror, SL11B Fascinate (97, 112, 23).   The notecard states that it is, “... an animated television series that brings together elements of film noir, steampunk, and classic Lovecraftian horror. “   The show is produced here in SL, and can be seen on Treet TV, Aview TV, or on YouTube.  A HUD is included in their gift box so you can view the show in world, too.  Season 3 will be released in the Fall.
Next I began checking out some of our neighboring builds, beginning with Eternal Realms at  SL11B Fascinate (68, 32, 23).   This build features a mesh replica of an 1830 Victorian train.  It was created by Tintin Tuxing, and it also features great gifts.  I received a Victorian lamp and a mermaid golden harp.
SL11B has a great treat for all of us who love to hunt.    The hunt will cover all of the regions over four paths.    A large sign in front of participating builds lets you know to hunt here.    You can start anywhere, but HUNT SL at SL11B Fascinate (110, 38, 24) was my choice as a starting point.   In addition to lots of well-hidden prizes, the huge tower has information about many of the upcoming hunts.   I ran into fellow hunt-lovers ScouseGirl and Bee Sopor here.
If mazes appeal to you, be sure to check out Amazing Dreamz at SL11B Fascinate (69, 198, 31).   I found this to be a very difficult maze.  It was created by arniek Resident.    Inside are a tangle of colorful halls and ramps and many dead ends.   I finally gave up and cheated.  I flew to the rooftop patio where I could relax with Tai Chi and the soothing sounds of the waterfall.
My last stop for the day was at Relay For Life of Second Life, SL11B Fascinate (141, 189, 21).   This quiet spot is a beautiful garden with lovely music and places to relax.  They call it “A serene look into the future when the cure for cancer has been found.”   A lovely thought for a lovely place.

A complete list of all the sights and events on Fascinate, as well as the other sims, can be found on the SL11B website at  http://slcommunitycelebration.com.

Shockwave Yareach’s Valentine Maze

DrFran Babcock, recently found a fun Valentine's Day themed attraction: the Valentine Maze by Shockwave Yareach. In the maze one hunts down candy hearts, though it's not as simple as it first looks. After looking the maze over, she found the builder and had a few words with him. This maze wasn't his first, and he plans to bring back an old favorite later this year.

Misty Acres

When I landed at Misty Acres I expected to skate, explore a bit and leave. I ended up staying an hour and a half and plan to go back with friends. At  Misty Acres follow the This way To the North Pole sign where Tindallia Soothsayer has made a winter wonderland. You will find a lovely pond for skating and there will be more free skates there in case you are collecting the various versions.

Santa is skating on this pond and waving to you as you glide around. If you are a fisher you can ice hole fish as you skate or have some hot chocolate and cookies. Tindallia  has even provided roasted chestnuts for you. There is an elf running an ice blower constantly to keep the pond clear for skating. Watch out when you come to the bridges jump to avoid bumping your head! Be sure to climb the hill to the amusement park and sit on Santa’s lap and tell him your wishes! Pick up a free hat and gift before you leave.

If you feel like getting lost there is a tricky winter maze to get into. Look for the giant toy soldiers and you are there. This refreshing sim has a lot to offer. It is a full amusement park with many rides: underground and above train ride,  bumper cars, slides, arcade,  wild roller coaster and a theater where you can watch ‘Santa Claus Conquers the Martians’  and lots more.

The region changes with the seasons so keep an eye on it. You can grab a guidebook near the roller coaster with more information.

Scary Fun at ZZ Studios

Grease Coakes was recently invited to the ZZ Studios sim. The sim of Cindy"Zig Zag" Babii is showing a little less of it's adult media theme, and much more of a Halloween one. Grease attended a costume party, then got a look at a zombie maze, and tried to get through "The Madhouse."

The Alien Egg Hunt Returns

Last year, Shockwave Yareach created an “Alien Egg Hunt” maze game for Easter. This year, it’s back again, along with it’s danger at every turn.

For this Easter, the sci-fi horror themed game, unlikely as it sounds, is back under the Passionate Redheads Relay For LIfe team, “The Passionate Redheads proudly present our annual egg hunt maze, with a twist - In Space EGG HUNTS YOU!! That’s right, these ain’t no ordinary eggs. They are ALIEN eggs. And you’re not collecting them, you’re shooting them!”

In an adventure worthy of the movie “Alien,” your objective, survive the trip through the maze, blasting any eggs, crawlers, and monsters you come across. If a facehugger ends up on you before you blast it, you’ll have to start all over again. Blast 16 eggs, and you win.

Before going past the start of the maze, one needs two things. One is the HUD provided for 50L at the start of the maze by paying the RFL vendor for them. It keeps track of the eggs, crawlers, and monsters shot. You’ll also need a gun of some kind. Because of the huge variety of personal firepower in Second Life, even when limited to free weapons, Shockwave has a test egg out in front of the maze as a test. If a gun works on the egg, it will work in the maze. There’s also a RFL gun vendor next to the HUD vendor.

Going into the maze, one has to be careful of the eggs and monsters. Get too close to an egg or a crawler that hasn’t been blasted, what ends up on your face is not egg yolk, and you have to begin again. Not knowing what’s around each and every corner, as well as the occasional steam clouds that may help hide a monster until it’s too late, it makes for an unnerving feeling one gets inside the maze. Multiple players can be in the maze, but no harassment is permitted by one player on another (monsters are another story).

Following the blasting of the 16th egg, the player has won, and the maze will announce your time. Prizes will be awarded for the best five times. The hunt will run at least to Easter, possibly longer.

The Alien Egg Hunt is at Southern Colorado (157, 140, 701)
