Gofundme Set Up For Nuala Marcus After Home Damaged

 

Things have not been easy lately for Nuala Marcas, Sandra Rose in real-life, one of the leaders of the Relay for Life's Relay Rockers.  On Saturday June 13 (right on the Relay Weekend), a car smashed into her home's bedroom, demolishing  the wall and just about everything inside. The result has been thousands in damages and living elsewhere until the repairs are done.

 

 

 Sandra is the kind of person who shows up — not just for friends, but for strangers fighting for their lives. For 22 years, she has volunteered with the American Cancer Society, helping raise millions of dollars to fund cancer research and support patients and families in need. She has given decades of her life to helping others through their hardest moments.

Now she is facing her own.

 

 On the morning of June 13, 2026, a car crashed directly into Sandra (Nuala)'s bedroom — destroying everything inside and leaving a gaping hole in the wall of her condo. She had no warning. In seconds, the space she slept in, the belongings she'd built over years, and her sense of safety were gone.

The impact destroyed Sandra's bedroom completely — her furniture, mattress, clothing, electronics, and personal belongings were either crushed or rendered unusable. While insurance will cover a portion of the losses, it will fall far short of what it actually costs to replace everything she lost. The gap between what insurance pays and what real replacement costs is significant, and that burden falls entirely on Sandra. 

Sandra has been forced to leave her home entirely and is now living out of hotels while repairs are assessed. The timeline to rebuild is uncertain — it could be months before she can return.

The result has been a Gofundme created to help Nuala out. The money is not only to replace and repair what insurance wouldn't cover, but to pay for her current living quarters while the place is fixed.

RECoyote Mindes/Richard Orth Needs Help

 

One of the longtime residents of Second Life's Sunweaver community, RECoyote Mindes, known as Richard Orth in real-life, is in need of some help. He explained his situation in a GoFundMe.

 

... I used to make a good living as a truck driver, but one frozen winter's night I fell off my truck and totally destroyed my back, requiring spinal implants which then got infected and resulted in even further damage.

Today I can just barely walk, and an in constant pain of about 30 on a scale of 1 to 10, but I live with it because others depend on me, especially all my friends on Second Life and other internet communities.

On top of all that, I have diabetes and bad neuropathy. Oh, and the kidney and lung cancer isn't helping anything either. I have to see some 16 specialists, each of whom want a $35 co-pay. I own the local hospital over $1,300,000 that I will never be able to pay. And every day my situation starts to look more and more unsustainable.

I have applied for every bit of assistance I can get to keep things going, but I already have everything I'm eligible for, and it's not enough. Every month I have overdrafts and things just keep getting farther and farther behind. If this keeps up I risk losing my house, as well as my life on the internet. And, even being in as much pain as I am, I'm not ready to disappear from the world yet. So if anyone out there would like to help I'd be much appreciative.

Hi, I'm Katty, and I hate to ask for help!

But this time, I really don't know what else to do.

I am a 45-year old BIPOC artist and bluecollar grunt surviving on a parcel of land in the desert around Three Points, AZ.

Here's part of my story: I ended up camping in a small unincorporated area about 22 miles from Tucson, AZ last year, due to how ridiculous the housing market is. I eventually moved into a 5th wheel RV after living in some hotels, a van, and a tent. After an abusive situation including my spouse and my landlord a few months ago, I ended up in my friends' 45 year old RV you see in the banner image.

If you've ever been at your wit's end with a loved one with a severe addiction issue, you unfortunately know where my money went. I was determined to keep going, getting professional help for my PTSD, anxiety, and suicidal depression. I started doing great at work and enrolled in night classes that my employer paid for, in order to attempt to score a juicy promotion!

Gofundme for Becky Nosferatu

 

Becky Nosterfau, one of Montecito Bay's content creators, has fallen into hard times. She explained the situation in a Gofundme for the situation.

 

So long story short, my disability was up for review and due to the Post Office not delivering my paperwork, I lost my disability. I've filed for a reclaim, but I have no fucking idea if they're going to give it back to me. I had to file 4 different forms and mail them in.

My case worker lost it last week, so I had to fax it in this time. This situation took 3 months to even get this far, because every time I called Social Security, they kept jerking me around, giving me wrong advice, and/or didn't know what to do properly to help me. My disability officially ended in December. (No one in my family got Christmas presents from me this year because of it, including my 15-year-old child.)

 

Becky had some good news. Not long after the Gofundme went up, some generous people donated the initial $500. But she was hoping to get a little more, "Hopefully I can get a bit more. I lowballed as much as possible, cause I didn't want to seem greedy."

A member of the staff at Furry Fashion has a problem. This would be Albright Smol-Bite (Bully Doge), who is a builder and the head of the security staff. Her pet is sick, and she doesn't have quite enough money to spare for vet bills.

SL Content Creator Creates Gofundme To Deal With Problem Landlords

 
Several days ago in Montecito Bay chat, one of the people, Becky Nosferatu, brought attention to a certain Gofundme. Bespoke, one of the content creators at their Avagora mall, had created it due to real-life trouble, some troublesome landlords

Gofundme Fundraiser for Maxwell Graf Succeeds

 

Over a decade ago, the Newser wrote about Maxwell Graf, or Timothy Jackson in real life, in 2010 over his deleting his sim to protest content theft. A few years later, he asked for some help to avoid an eviction in real life of himself and his wife, and residents answered generously. But soon after disaster struck and they lost their home anyway. The following year she was badly hurt in an accident. Still, they found a new place and rented it monthly, making plans to get a lasting home. But then the property they were renting was bought, and the new owner told them they had to leave. They did get an offer accepted on a mobile home. But their savings weren't enough. So they started a Gofundme and asked for help. "We are so close to having some stability," he stated, "We need your help desperately to keep from becoming homeless again. Please fund us if you can."

Over the next several days, the fundraiser would collect $4675 US Dollars. Max was happy with the results, and closed the fundraiser.

We have reached our goal ... so have locked accepting further donations, other than continue to keep this open. We have what we needed, what we asked for and more than we dared to home. Thank you to all who shared, reposted, blogged, upvoted, linked, and most of all to all who donated. .. Your kindness and lvoe made every difference. We are lifted by others.

Virtual World Commentator Will Burns' (Aeonix Aeon) Mother Passes Away, Sets Up GoFundMe for Funeral Costs

 

Will Burns, known in Second Life as Aeonix Aeon, has been going through personal tragedy. On August 8, he posted that his mother had passed away, and needed help with expenses.

DJ Matt Sets Up GoFundMe After Robbery

 
DJ Matt (Matt Carlton) raised plenty of dollars for the Relay for Life in Second Life, such as the DJ competition in April. Unfortunately, she herself right now is in need of money. Her luck recently took a turn for the worst. Her storage shed was broken into, and a number of items were stolen, notably lawn equipment and kitchen appliances.

We found my shed was broken into at my property on Monday, all my lawn equipment was stolen as was all my small kitchen appliances and cookware I was storing in there while redoing wiring and drywall at the house. They took some other miscellaneous stuff, like and old PC and some old radios, but not as bad as the other things. Anything easy to snatch was gone.  I been staying with my parents furring this remodel but now this has really screwed us over. I did not have insurance for this property either. I hate asking for help but I'm at a loss as to what to do. Anything is appreciated. I am even currently selling my old Pathfinder just to try and get extra cash to get a more efficient car just to make deliveries to try and dig out of this hole I am in, but it just seems to keep getting deeper. I'm not great at asking things like this so....I guess I'll leave it at this. Thankfully the house was not harmed and the shed door just needs new hinges....

Sunweaver Launches Gofundme To Meet Expenses Following Job Loss

 

Among the personalities at the Sunweaver community (and RFL Sunbeamer team) is Valkyrie Ice (Valkyrie McGill). She stands out as being a demihuman in a place full of furs, as well as having written for a futurist magazine (and the Newser a couple times). She's also has skills as an artist. And recently has decided to get back into her artistry. But, she needs a little help. She recently lost her job in real life, and made the decision to post a Gofundme.

I lost my job due to Covid, and I am wishing to concentrate on trying to make a living with my art. I need assistance currently with meeting living expenses, and keeping myself online in order to do so. I am diabetic, with peripheral neuropathy, and having difficulty standing for long periods. As I live in a very small town, my job options are very few. I am fortunate that my living expenses are small, and the amount requested would cover a couple of months worth as I try to start making a income with my art.

I need the funds within a month or so, so that I can apply them to my upcoming bills. I've had to stop working on my art for several years so I am having to reteach myself how to use the software, so any support would be very helpful in allowing me to begin producing artwork regularly.

Jasmine Dawn on The Halloween Haunt And Her New Computer

 

Halloween is here, and it's time for clubs across Second Life to do something for spooky fun. Some just put up a few small decorations. But the Happy Vixen goes all out with a special Halloween area. For these builds, Jasmine Dawn has graciously donated her time so others can have a little spooky fun. This year, she had planned a challenging maze and a spooky house. But trouble came when unexpected computer trouble broke her machine. Fortunately, help would soon be on the way, and she was able to complete her creation. Matt Carlton Creates Gofundme For Help With Medical Bills

Matt Carlton was a big help to the Relay for Life in Second Life this year, having raised well over a hundred thousand Linden dollars at several events. Now Matt is in need of some help herself. She recently started a Gofundme campaign to help pay some medical bills.

Since around June 6th I have been having lots of digestive issues. I have been to the ER once to be given fluids and have tests ran, then to urgent car twice to have more tests and some xrays an a CT scan done. Apparently something is causing enteritis, or inflammation of my little intestines. I was recently referred to a specialist, and have been scheduled for a colonoscopy set for Aug 19th to try and get a few more answers as to why this is happening. While they will let me make payments, any help with the bills will be greatly appreciated. I set the goal at what my current ct scan bill amount and the estimated Colonoscopy bill combined would be. I know times are hard right now on everyone, and being a driver for Postmates, I have very little income at the moment, esp with not being able to be online as much as needed due to all the doctors visits in the last four weeks and frequent....restroom visits, for lack of a nicer what to put it. I am able to work a bit as of recently at least. I thank you much for the help, and even if the goal is not reached, anything helps right now, even if it just pays a bill for one of my visits with the specialist or something. Thanks again.

Soon after posting, Matt was in a car accident while riding with a friend. While she wasn't badly hurt, the visit to the hospital did add to her medical bills.

JB Raccoon Needs A Hand

JB Raccoon, the co-owner of KXVN Radio, has run into some financial difficulties. The reason: some paperwork snafus that have thrown a monkey wrench into his Social Security income.

"I am STILL trying to sort everything out however after I pay my rent that leaves me with $30 to pay my other expenses including my medication refills which the reality is, I just can't make it. So here I am calling for help, hoping to raise the funds so I can cover my expenses while I fight to get this sorted."

Great Canadian Grid Offline

So soon after High Fidelity is about to all but shut down, another virtual world is in trouble. According to an article on Hypergrid Business, dated December 28, as well as some chatter on Discord, the Great Canadian Grid, a small Opensim world, has been taken offline.

The reason for the world being offline is apparently a personal dispute between it's owner Roddie Macchi and that of a larger virtual world, Digiworld's Terry Ford. Digiworld had been handling the smaller world's grid management services. Then somehow the two owners got into an argument of some kind, and the Great Canadian Grid was taken offline after these services were stopped.

Macchi has reacted by starting a Gofundme campaign, which he says is to help pay for technical help and new services to restore the Great Canadian Grid.  As of the writing of this article, $1,175 USD had been raised.

There was no shortage of negative comments following the articles, as well in Discord. A few compared the Great Canadian Grid Gofundme to the InWorldz one over a year ago, which was unsuccessful in saving it. Some felt the incident not only made the two grid owners, but also Opensim as a whole, look bad, "It deeply saddens me it has come to this but it is our farewell to opensimulator altogether. My wife and I are heading back to our mainland parcel in Second Life ..." "... you complain that 'Why are people from Second Life not coming to you?' Coz you are terrible managers."

Announcement: Gofundme For Illya Leonov (Morgan Freepony)

Illya Leonov, or Morgan Freepony, is well loved for his voice work narrating My Little Pony fanfictions for the pony community and for the library. Of course he also does other voice work such as the audiobooks "Selkies' Skins: Castle and Well" and "Pearls of Sea and Stone: Book of Seals." You can listen to him on his Youtube, his Soundcloud, and usually on Thursdays at 6 PM Pacific/Second Life time in the Trotsdale Library and over his stream.

Right now he needs help handling his medical bills stemming from his fight with cancer. Even if you can't help out financially with a few bits you CAN pass word around about his Gofundme. When a pony like Illya decides it is time to actually start one then that tells us he truly does need help.

InWorldz Gofundme Halts Donations, Co-Founder Issues Statement

In the latest in the developing story about the impending shutdown of InWorldz, the Gofundme that owner Beth Reisch set up for the virtual world is no longer accepting donations. She had  originally stated the money would be going to save the virtual world. But after most of it had been raised, she had apparently changed her goal to instead establishing a new one, and moving things from InWorldz to this new one. While some people were supportive, others were confused or angry. And comments were disabled.

Also, there was a statement in Hypergrid Business by InWorldz co-founder David Daeshler on the situation. As he had left the staff over a year ago, he wasn't sure what was going on.

For all those that have been asking me what is going on with InWorldz, I’d like to make a public statement.

I have not been involved in the management or operation of InWorldz since the end of 2016. I have not been privy to company information regarding finances or operational factors since at least that time. I don’t know the state of the loan agreement that was executed by Beth Reischl alone. I do not know if the creditors that are owed money by Beth and InWorldz, LLC have been repaid, or if they are still seeking final resolution to what sounds like a loan default.

Further, I don’t know where the funds from the GoFundMe campaign that Beth Reischl started are going. Since the decision has now been made to start a new grid, I do not know if those funds that were collected under the name of InWorldz, LLC are now being funneled to a new business entity, or personal accounts.

I feel very badly for all residents that are at the risk of losing their home and their things. I have missed being a part of the InWorldz community and spirit for the past few years, but the business has struggled due to a constant push for the lowest possible price against competition with no business model. We have all had to make sacrifices and, in some cases, move on to make ends meet.

I hope the Beth can clarify how this new grid will operate, and how InWorldz, LLC’s creditors will be repaid given a possible move to a new business entity.

I miss you all. I miss hearing how InWorldz improved your life. I miss hearing about the new love and real-life marriages that happened because of our service. InWorldz will always hold a special place in my heart, and I’ll always remember what you all taught me…

Update: InWorldz has provided a Schedule of OARS , "After we produce the OAR file, the items will be cleared from the region and it will be taken down. This way you'll know when the OAR file has been done. I know everyone wants more time, but we don't have any more time to give. So by producing a full OAR, we can process them over the next week to get items filtered out and moved on to their region owners."

InWorldz Gofundme Within $500 of $17,000 Goal, Questions About Future Arise

The Gofundme set up by it's owner Beth Reischl has raised most of the money it needs to stay afloat. As of the printing of this article, it has raised $16,506 of the $17,000 USD goal.

But will the money be used for it's original purpose? At Update Number Three, Reischl seemed to be saying instead of saving the grid, the money would be used to create a new one.

Wow! Everyone has been amazing! So here's where things stand. I asked in discord this afternoon, once we hit our goal, then what? What about next month? After much agonizing and upset, it was suggested by the residents that we use these monies to start a new grid. We'll be able to move OARS, profiles, groups. Inventory can only be taken that can be put in a box to be OAR filed. We'll be opening the sandbox for people who have no region to place their items and can get them back.

If you are NOT ok with this, I urge you to please withdraw your support on the page. I do not want to take anyone's money who is not ok with this! Otherwise, please start boxing your items up on your region or ask a friend or tomorrow I'll be opening the Sandboxes up for people!

Toysolider Thor: I thought this was to save Inworldz. Why now still abandon Inworldz and force everyone to change to a new grid? I am lost. Inworldz has a lot of invested brand recognition and many have an emotional affinity to it. I dont get it.

Lin Stamos-Valentine: So the $17,000 was NOT to pay the loan and set up a new payment platform then (as we were told)? You are using it to start a new grid and we only have a few days to save 8 years (in my case) worth of work? Even though you HAD to know long before now that InWorldz was a lost cause? Jim says no matter what the grid was closing, but I thought we could save it, but now we aren't. Did I donate to start a new grid? NO! I donated to save InWorldz. I am asking for a refund. Go ahead and get mad at me, but I feel very betrayed at the moment.

Elpida Tisagapi: Ok STOP! the fund raising was to safe IW not to make a new grid! IW is special and its the ppl and the community there that makes it special. The goal is nearly reached and will give Beth a month to sort the problems with the loan people. Moving to another grid is NOT solving anything at all! Never mind there are no full perm creators, in their right mind, who will ever give their permission to move to a new grid with NO control what so ever. I know I speak for Tao Dreamscape in this matter too. There is NO way she will agree to that. I look after Tao's store on both IW and SL (the customer service side) and please take this as if Tao herself stated it. For me its IW or nothing. Fight for IW instead of taking the easy road.

Gillian Holmes: It was not 'suggested by the residents' that you start a new grid, it was decided by a small clique of people who rudely refuse to listen to the views of others. Most residents don't even know about this yet. I think you have taken money under false pretences. The initial 'cause' has been replaced by totally different one. You should refund all donations and start again clearly stating exactly what you are raising the money for. As it stands this could be viewed as fraud.

 Others were more supportive.

Hypatia Emerson: They are doing what they have to with what they have to work with. They didn't come up with the idea to start a new grid. The people on IW suggested it and talked Ele into it on Discord. She could just tell you all to go take a leap. She didn't she set up a go fund me to save our homes. The timing is too short to save the grid so she asked what to do and IW people said make a new one and transfer us over.

Tom Minor: Inworldz isn't the grid, it's the people.. and the creative spirit they share. That is what's worth preserving.

Frand Lupschen: The current discussion and I have been brought up to the current situation. InWorldz as a business has been killed by the loanshark company. It no longer has any business assets. The account is empty. So the business is really dead. What is happening now is that everyone is to put out the content they wish to keep in their regions and oars will be made of the regions. For those who do not have land, several sandbox regions will be made available. The oars, user list DB of active accounts will be retained and used to build a new grid that will use the saved content as the starting point for a new world.

So while it looks like the Gofundme will succeed, some new questions have arisen about the long-term future of the virtual world. Stay tuned for further details.

Update: As of 10AM PST, some people have withdrawn their donations, lowering the total raised to $16,211. Also, comments have appeared to have been disabled.

Yesterday on July 23, Beth Reisch, the owner of the InWorldz grid, announced that the virtual world was facing being shut down on Friday. But she also launched a Gofundme to try and save the place.

As many of you know, I posted this morning about current state of affairs in InWorldz. We have decided NOT to go down without a fight! But to do so, we need your support! I refunded most payments this morning via PayPal (there are still some needing refunding), and we will apply your donations to your region tier. We need $17k to get bank balance back to normal (because we paid off LoanBuilders one payment and Chase let it go through putting us in negative) and pay the servers for another month.  

I will be honest, Cashouts will be put off until we get everything organized, but all older cashouts will be held to be first paid off as things stabilize.

I know InWorldz is a home to so many of you, and I was willing to close the doors on that as I had not seen any way out of the impending doom. However, if you can donate, we can get the servers going and we'll get a new payment system in place that is not PayPal, but still allow all of our Domestic and European customers pay! I hope I can count on you and so do your neighbors! We will apply donations that match billing records as needed, just let us know which region and we'll update accordingly. Remember, if we don't hit our goal, you lose nothing! Let's hit it peeps!

As of the writing of this article, the total raised has gone up to $8290, slightly less than half of what's needed.

More On Ozimal's Closing

There's been a few developments following the closing of Ozimals. I found the real Ozimal store at the Magic of Oz sim (180/90/23), but sadly anything having to do with their breedable bunnies or any other products of theirs was gone. There are still other items one can buy at shops, and one can explore the sim, going down it's yellow brick road and seeing Emerald City. It is unclear how long the sim will remain. The Ozimal blog has also been shut down.

Contacting Malkavyn Eldritch, he told me he couldn't tell me any details at all related to the "cease and desist" order other than what he already stated. But he did say there was a group concerned fans of Ozimal bunnies could join: For The Love of Oz . Chatting with the people there, I was handed a package with an "Everlasting timepiece" and other items needed to keep a pet bunny active, even one that had gone into hibernation. So if someone gets the news late about Ozimal's closing, they can still save their bunnies. You can also get the items from IMing the group and getting them from someone, or from the box of them at the Newser office at HV Community (135/85/25)

Fans of Ozimal have also set up a gofundme page, not to help bring back the company (which is unlikely), but to help out Malkavyn. "The funds we raise here will go toward helping him rebuild things in his life beyond Second Life and hopefully ease his real life burdens," the page states, "Please help us give back to him for all the joy that he has brought us."

In group notices, people were still trading bunnies, and there was plenty of chat about their pets and happy moments. So while the company may be gone, many bunny owners will still be enjoying their pets.
