RECoyote Mindes/Richard Orth Needs Help

One of the longtime residents of Second Life's Sunweaver community, RECoyote Mindes, known as Richard Orth in real-life, is in need of some help. He explained his situation in a GoFundMe.

... I used to make a good living as a truck driver, but one frozen winter's night I fell off my truck and totally destroyed my back, requiring spinal implants which then got infected and resulted in even further damage.

Today I can just barely walk, and an in constant pain of about 30 on a scale of 1 to 10, but I live with it because others depend on me, especially all my friends on Second Life and other internet communities.

On top of all that, I have diabetes and bad neuropathy. Oh, and the kidney and lung cancer isn't helping anything either. I have to see some 16 specialists, each of whom want a $35 co-pay. I own the local hospital over $1,300,000 that I will never be able to pay. And every day my situation starts to look more and more unsustainable.

I have applied for every bit of assistance I can get to keep things going, but I already have everything I'm eligible for, and it's not enough. Every month I have overdrafts and things just keep getting farther and farther behind. If this keeps up I risk losing my house, as well as my life on the internet. And, even being in as much pain as I am, I'm not ready to disappear from the world yet. So if anyone out there would like to help I'd be much appreciative.

When he was doing better financially, RECoyote has helped others, such as paying the fee to reduce the sim tiers for the Sunweaver community

Crowdfunder To Save Hangars Liquides Sims

In a further development on the continuing story about the Hangars Liquides cyberpunk-themed sims in danger of closing at the end of the month, it was announced in the group that a crowdfunder to save them had been launched on indiegogo.com.

We have just launched our crowndfunding campaign to save the city.

You can donate anything you feel like, keep in mind the 100 EUR perk is like the regular rentals yearly.

Djehan Kidd is offering two perks for people do donate. For a donation of $112 USD, you'll get an apartment in Hangars for a year. For a donation of $1122, you get one of four platinum rooftop lofts.

As of the writing of this article, $1257 of the $6735 goal had been raised.

Stay tuned for more updates.

Addition: As of 1PM SL time, the amount donated is $1572 USD.

Montecito Bay Invites People to Donate to Becky Nosferatu's Fundraiser

Yesterday, Becky Nosferatu of Montecito Bay called out for help in getting enough money to travel to see her critically ill sister in a hospital in another state. Later that evening, her community announced at their events this week, people could donate money to her at the club events.

for those here that have not heard. Becky's sister is in the ICU right now, with an Aneurysm and Pneumonia, brought on by a stroke. Long story short, she needs to get to Denver and either help her recover... or prepare for her funeral. There's more to it, here: https://tinyurl.com/y9tywfmv but also, she is going to have a fundraiser the rest of this week. Each fundraiser she is going to offer avatars or the MP Inventory per donation, as a thank you. So join us at MB all this week for that, please. Or you can just straight donate. Thank you.

Becky would also announce she would be offering goods to those who donated to her via Paypal.

anyone who donates to my Paypal for this fundraiser, has Tiered options for anything from MP: Under 5 a single av or mod of your choice. 5-10 dollars gets you an av and mod of your choice. Over 15 gets you the MP Inventory. Over 30: Whatever the hell you want from what I've got.

The fundraiser lasts until the end of the week.

Caspertech Vendor Collecting Donations For Victims of Pulse Massacre

On Sunday morning in Orlando Florida, the Pulse nightclub was attacked by a killer whom gunned down a number of people and took several hostages before finally being shot and killed by police. With 49 people dead (not counting the killer) and 53 injured, the event was one of the worst cases of mass-murder in the United States. The gunman, the son of immigrants from Afghanistan, pledged loyalty to the ISIS terrorist organization. As Pulse is a gay nightclub, the incident is being described as both a hate crime and an act of terrorism.

In Second Life, Casper Warden of Caspertech has made a kiosk to help residents donate to a fund to help the victims of the crime. The money collected goes to a GoFundMe page set up by Ida Vishkaee Eskamani of Equality Florida, a political activist and nonprofit organization. Linden Lab mentioned Caspertech's kiosk in the official Second Life blog.

The Second Life community comes together in incredible, compassionate ways that serve as a badge to show what amazing, diverse, and accepting communities we have all over the grid. ... In light of the tradegy that struck Orlando nightclub, Pulse this past weekend, Casper Warden of CasperVend has set up a kiosk in his mainstore to collect donations for the GoFundMe set up by Equality Florida to benefit and support the victims of this horrific event.

The vendor includes a disclaimer that the withdraw fees for converting Linden dollars to real-world currency will be applied to funds collected. All charities collecting money from Second Life wishing to avoid the fee need to contact Linden Lab and work out an exemption.

The Lab has also included the location of Caspertech in the Destination Guide, which is located at Izanagi (184/81/134).

Casper has also made his kiosk available on the Second Life Marketplace for free, which can be found (here). Already others have gotten copies of and making use of them, such as Furry Fashion.

In light of the tragedy that struck Orlando nightclub Pulse this past weekend, Casper Warden of CasperVend has set up a kiosk in his mainstore to collect donations for the GoFundMe set up by Equality Florida to benefit and support the victims of this horrific event. FF is also getting involved with donation kiosks set up across the sim ...

As of now, Furry Fashion has at least one kiosk set up at Furry (203, 197, 59). There will almost certainly be other locations publicized in various groups and websites. Hamlet Au and Strawberry Singh have also written about the kiosk.

Final Week for the Kristen's Viewer Project Fundraising

In October, the Kristen's Viewer Project's creator made an effort to fund continued research on the third-party viewer for a year through the British fundraising website "Crowdfunder." In about a week, the fundraiser may be canceled and further work on Kristen's Viewer suspended indefinitely.

So far, nearly seven thousand British pounds have been raised. While no small feat, it is only 27% of what's needed to fund KirstenLee's, Lee Quick in real life, expenses for a year as he would be working on the viewer instead of working for an employer.

Inara Pay managed to get in contact with Lee Quick, and asked if Crowdfunder offered to extend the time left would he keep going. Lee answered no, "No we won’t. If the target isn’t met the viewer will not return."

So for fans of the Viewer, next week will determine whether it continues to be developed, or ends up on the path to obsolescence once again.

Kristen’s Viewer May Get Second Chance Through "Crowdfunder"

When KirstenLee Cinquetti (Lee Quick in real life) had the misfortune of his real-life partner falling ill, it looked like the end of the line for the viewer he developed last month as he needed to take a second job to get more money. He made the decision to go with a British fundraising website called “Crowdfunder.” The site bills itself as a way for people “to raise money to do cool stuff more easily. ... Lots of people – each giving a small amount ... The ‘crowd’ decides what’s good, what’s not, what they want to fund and what they don’t. It’s survival of the fittest for creative ideas and projects.”

On “The Kirsten’s Viewer Project” page in Crowdfunder, KirstenLee explained in a youtube, “A couple people suggested ‘ why don’t you do a fundraiser? ‘ ... As it happens, we deiced to go for it.” KirstenLee explained the attraction, “it’s an all or nothing situation, people can fund it ... if we don’t hit the target, people get their money back.” He felt a “fair” goal was 25,000 Pounds (about $40,000 US dollars) “for one year’s continuous development. ... If we hit the target that we’re asking, the day it happens Kristen’s Viewer will be re-relased” with an upgraded client.

He explained the people who fund it would get various rewards, depending on the level of their donation, such as special versions of the viewer before general release to the public, suggesting “radical changes to user interface” and special controls. He went on to say, “If we hit the target ... exceed the target ... it affords us the luxury of paying others to contribute to the viewer as well.” He hoped he might be able to hire the former Qual Linden. He also talked about the Kristen’s project being able to license things after the Crowdfunder goal was met.

The Kristen Crowdfunder page gave a list of donor rewards from small to large. Those contributing 1000 Pounds, “You get to choose the features that get into the client for feature voting!” Also, “The TOP 10 funders will have all of the rewards Plus exclusive use of 1 of 10 Login splash screens used by the viewer! Your screen will be seen by thousands of users daily!”

The page was started on Monday October 17th, with 60 days to raise the 25,000 pounds. By Tuesday night, 2,092 Pounds, or eight percent of the total had been raised, contributed by 59 donors. The post on KristenLee’s blog announcing the news was also filled with the comments of well-wishers.

Hamlet Au had a few comments on New World Notes about KristenLee’s move. He called it, “a bid to give Second Life users more say in the future of Second Life. ... If this Crowdfunder is successful, it will help launch a new era of Second Life development that is more directly by the users, for the users.”

“ ... consider contributing a few pounds ... it’s your viewer ... we’d be happy to have you aboard.” - KirstenLee Cinquetti / Lee Quick

Sunweaver Landlady's Real-Life Family Suffers Tragedy

The following was sent as group notices yesterday and today for the Sunweavers.

Rita's RL sister's and her RL nephew and his family, GF, daughter and son, die in fire, this past Tuesday morning. Only one boy survives after jumping from second story window. Here is the link to the news: http://www.fox2now.com/news/ktvi-8-year-old-dies-two-days-after-fatal-fire-20110818,0,5069209.story

It appears there was a working fire detector in the house and it went off. Lauren (mother), perhaps Cameron too, were attempting to get the kids out of the house, but were overcome by the smoke, during the attempt. Only Dominic made it to safety. Sabine and Daaneth McGettigan are collecting for my sister and her loss, if you wish to donate to help out.

The Burn Begins

The Burn2 is off to a great start. The dates are October 1 through 9 and although it seems far away it will be here soon. Plots are being sold to builders and they are busy are working on their creations off the playa getting ready for their projects and are excited. I cannot wait to see the artistic visions for Rites of Passage, the theme of Burn2, 2011.

Any resident of Second Life who wishes to can be involved in some way. There are many opportunities for volunteering. Do not feel you may not have enough skill. There is training for you. The commitment of time should not bother you either. You will fit in somewhere for the time you would like to spend. You can visit the tent at Deep Hole to see all the possible groups to join.

As a Ranger, I have already started my training. I am also a Lamplighter so I can join in the lamplighter's parade when I am available. That is great fun! The greeters are wonderful helpers to new arrivals on the playa, assisting with questions about where to go and passing out gifts. The dpw has a lot of cleaning up to do during the burn.

People are also invited to loan or “donate “ a spare sim you may have to allow more space for the Burn2 builds. Your sim will be added to the 5 sims already at the Playa and returned to you at the end of the Burn. If you are not familiar with the Burn which used to be Burning Life in SL, visit the wiki - http://secondlife.wikia.com/wiki/Burning_Life. This is the second year that the Burn is solely run by Second Life residents. The Leads are depending on you to make the Burn! You can visit the kiosks at the tent to sign up or just to get more information.
