Press Release: Milk Wood's 3rd Annual March Poetry Fest

We have much pleasure in announcing that this year's poetry fest will take place at Milk Wood Writers' Colony and Showcase from Friday 30th March - Sunday 1st April, 2012.

The poetry fest will embody the edginess and energy that is currently exploding across the Second Life® poetry scene. It provides a 3-day opportunity for some of the best poets to display and perform on one of the first writing sims created in Second Life® - now 5 years old.

How to Get Involved :

There are several ways you can get involved. You can choose to exhibit your work in one of our easels or in the fallen leaf displays (which enable you to exhibit your poetry in simple notecard format).

If you choose the easel route you will be given a special easel with a script that allows several pieces of work to be installed. The viewer simply clicks on the easel and the display automatically changes screen.

In addition to the easel exhibits and fallen leaf displays, we will have readings by popular poets throughout the festival.

We also have a special Book Fayre for artists to display more of their creativity. Be sure to rent asap if you want to take up the offer of our 2 weeks free rent.ô€€€. We plan building a stage area for Book Fayre renters to promote their work through readings and our Virtual Book Tours interview.

If you are interested in displaying your work and/or reading please email Harri at harriet.gausman@googlemail.com

Several people have offered to help build your displays for you so if you don't have the skills to perform this yourself, please contact us and we will put you in touch with them.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Best Wishes,

Milk Wood Writers' Consortium

Press Release: "Acquarella - After the Apocalypse" Opens in InWorldz

Acquarella: After the Apocalypse GRAND OPENING
Saturday, October 29, 12 - 3 pm PDT

Attention! this event is in InWorldz, not Second Life!!

You are cordially invited to the GRAND OPENING for my first-ever full-sim art installation!

Come give me a hug or introduce yourself if we haven't met. Enjoy music by Chandra Deed noon to 1:30 pm PDT and Declan G 1:30 - 3 pm PDT! Feast on sushi! Ride a pink seahorse!

Best of all, come see a story as told by a sim: the Age of Man has ended in a blaze of fire, famine, and warfare, and the Age of Acquarella dawns. The mighty goddess repopulates the oceans with aquarium outposts filled with creatures that survived in the coolest depths. Hoping to avoid the violent excesses of her forebears, she plans for these little oceans to be peaceful and pure. Alas, as they say, if you want to make the Devil laugh, make plans.

Check out the unusual terraforming and land textures, the beautiful hand-drawn plants and exotic fish, the sea serpent, the rideable seahorses. Feast in the Sushi Pavilion. Look out for the 8-eyed monster - a true fear experience. Freebies and lots of cool stuff for sale in the Sim Store, too.

Press Release: Zexpo 2011

ZEXPO 2011 runs AUG 26 thru SEP 4
Celebrating the Adult Side of Second Life: Zindra and Beyond

ZEXPO is an annual convention/tradeshow/festival that takes place on a large region known as ZEXPO Island on the 'A' rated mainland of Zindra, in the virtual world of Second Life. The Island features a new large event every season and the ZEXPO show itself is an exciting convergence of merchants, performers, artists, play areas, famous personalities, specialty organizations and everything that represents SL's sophisticated adult side. ZEXPO is very inclusive and very innovative, mixing creativity and inspiration with business networking, education and hope for the future.

The concept of ZEXPO 2011 (and other events on the island) is one of positive PR and outreach for the adult mainland of Zindra. While Zindra is 'adult' land, it does not contain only 'adult content' (though adult content is certainly permitted.) and is often known as the most liberating place in SL. While ZEXPO 2011 is about promoting Zindra, it also welcomes non-Zindran content in an effort to cross-promote interests and reach out across more of Second Life and beyond. Some believe that a healthy adult mainland means a healthy adult SL which means a healthy SL.

This year's show features an emphasis on Creative and Active Investment, Adult Sophistication and a fun 'Forbidden Carnival' theme. Other innovations include a hotel booking system, where attendees will be able to obtain accommodations for the show's duration, a plethora of exciting Attractions and Mini-Events, and a Forbidden Float Contest, where exhibitors can create moving parade floats.

Raglan Shire ArtWalk 2011 Opens May 8th

HUGE ANNUAL ART FESTIVAL OPENS IN RAGLAN SHIRE MAY 8th

RAGLAN SHIRE SIM CLUSTER, May 8, 2011 -- The Raglan Shire ArtWalk 2011 opens, displaying the works of 120 artists over twosims in an outdoor setting. The show runs from May 8th through May 29th.

Artists gridwide have converged to exhibit their RL photography and art and SL photography and sculpture in this annual arts festival, hosted by the tiny community of the Raglan Shire sim cluster.

"When I first opened these sims for tinies, I started ArtWalk in 2007, inspired by the ArtWalk of Seattle, Washington," said Zayn Till, Magistrate of Raglan Shire. "We want to give artists a fabulous opportunity to exhibit both RL and SL works."

2D art of all kinds is exhibited along the hedgerows in the central area of Raglan Shire sim. SL sculptural works are exhibited among the trees and along the shores of the western half of Heron Forest in Heron Shire sim. A special Director's Show is located in the Raglan Tree Gallery. TP kiosks to the display locations are on the grounds of the festival.

"We are so excited to see such a wonderful collection of excellent works exhibited by the artists of Second Life," said Teal Freenote, ArtWalk Organizer, herself one of the exhibiting artists. "Fabulous artists, both tiny and big, make this a visual feast. What better way to enjoy May than wandering the lush grounds of the Shires reveling in wonderful art!"

A few of the many artists exhibiting are Sledge Roffo, Van Caerndow, Corcosman Voom, Cat Boccaccio, Betty Rogan, Carly Frequency, StarZ33 McCullough, Tia Macbain, Nessuno Myoo, Teal Freenote, Shoji Kumaki, Special Jewell, Nicci WInsmore, Kicca Igaly and Carlotta Ceawlin.

Avatars of all shapes and sizes are welcome to visit the show during May and enjoy wandering these enchanting sims dedicated to tiny avatars.

RFL Fantasy Faire 2011

* * Fantasy Faire 2011, April 2 - 10th * *

Proudly brought to you by
Friends Fighting Cancer
Strong! Together!
...
with the Spirit of Hope!

From Saturday April 2nd to Sunday April 10th 2011, thousands of Second Life residents and creators are coming together to support the American Cancer Society's vision of a world without cancer. Friends Fighting Cancer (FFC) have transformed nine sims of Second Life into a fantasy wonderland: the Fantasy Faire 2011 to benefit Relay for Life of Second Life (RFL of SL).

The Fantasy Faire 2011 is the largest gathering of fantasy designers, enthusiasts, roleplayers and performers in the virtual world. Ten days of commerce, special events, live music concerts, exclusive items auctions, RFL ribbon hunts and fundraising to benefit Relay for Life and the fight against cancer. Avatars, clothing, furnishings, gadgets, goodies and exclusive items are available from top SL Fantasy Creators in stunning sims designed by builders creating some of the most noticeable fantasy spots on the SL destination guide.

This nine sim event is bringing together such fantasy genres as Fairy, Elven, Magic, Mermaid, Goth, Demon, Vamp, Neko, Micro, Steampunk, Sci-Fi and more including fantasy landscaping and appearance such as skin & hair! FFC's goal in 2011 is to raise $20,000 USD for RFL of SL. The Fantasy Faire 2011 will also offer visitors an opportunity to celebrate the survivors of cancer, remember and honor loved ones lost, and to fight back with the American Cancer Society.

The Fantasy Faire 2011 is made possible by the generous support of Sim and Event Sponsors: Dark Goddess Designs, Evie's Closet, Fallen Gods, Fantasy Furniture by Arachne Anatra, Hoof It, Mer Betta, Petable, The Looking Glass, The Arcanum, T R I D E N T, Mycon3 fantasy sim & Fondazione Connell - The Project

To join us this year just search for "Fantasy Faire Central" on the map - open to the public 2nd - 10th April, 2011.

-----------------------------------------------------

This year's third annual Fantasy Faire is produced by Friends Fighting Cancer, an international team of people who have been involved with the RFL of SL for the past five years who are all committed to helping the American Cancer Society reach this year’s goal of $300,000 USD.

Since its inception in 2005, the RFL of SL has grown in both attendance and fundraising. With almost $275,000 USD raised last year RFL of SL has become the largest fundraising event in the virtual world.

The stunning fantasy environments and surrounds have been created by some of SLs top builders including the wonderful Elicio Ember (Cerridwen's Caldron), Mayah Parx ( Epic Toy Factory), Alia Baroque (Fallen Gods) Piedras Chama & Nonna Hedges (Natural Fantasies), Numberofthebeast Angelus (see his work at Arcanum), Marcus Inkpen & Sharni Azalee (The Looking Glass), Zander Greene & Lauren Thibaud (Thibaud Green Industries) and we're very excited to welcome Sextan Shepherd (who will be bringing elements of his famous steampunk "Nemo" build back just for the Fantasy Faire!)

---------------------------------------------------------

As with all events this size, there will be lag. We have done our best to keep it as low as we can but we’ll also need your help. Be considerate of your fellow shoppers - keep prims and bling in your pocket, turn off your AOs and other scripted HUDs (you will find the going easier for yourself). Low prim clothes are available at each teleport point so that you can show your support for The Relay for Life and help everything run smoother PLUS our secret Fairy Godmother will be dropping FABULOUS prizes on people with really low Avatar Render Cost and Scripts for doing such a great job at keeping the lag down!

Linden Lab to Hold Monthly Events Meetings

Effective March 3, Linden Lab will begin holding monthly Events user group meetings for anyone interested in providing feedback and learning about changes to the Events directory.

The first meeting will be held March 3 at 2 p.m. (Pacific) and future meetings will be held the first Thursday of each month in the Hanley region:
http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Hanley/159/209/27

Capacity will be limited, so we encourage people to arrive early!

For the March 3 meeting, some members of the Linden Lab events team will be available to discuss current Events listing policies and guidelines.

In subsequent meetings, Linden Lab staff will be taking broader agenda items from the community. You can always stay informed on previous and future meeting notes and times on the following Events User Group wiki page:
http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Events_User_Group

I'd like to thank Kalli Berman and Mankind Tracer for allowing me to attend the recent United Music Community forum. Some of the information from that meeting has been passed on to the Events team and many of those issues will be discussed in the first Linden Lab User Group meeting.

Best,

Brett Linden

The 2010 Relay for Life Walk

The Relay philosophy is: We are here so that those who face cancer will be supported, that those who have lost their battle will not be forgotten, and so that one day cancer will be eliminated.

On July 17th & 18th we will do just that. Below is a list of Ceremonies and Activities that will take place at the July 2010 Relay. It is a Relay tradition to keep one person from each team on the track at all times. We know that your teams will have a member walking the track all through the 24-hour period, as is the tradition of Relay any place or any time, but do take some time to participate in the ceremonies and various activities when you are not walking the track.

All ceremonies are broadcast live on the Official Radio Station for Relay - T1Radio and we encourage all campsites to turn their streams to the station so everyone may hear the ceremonies.

http://t1radio.serverroom.us:8242

Saturday, July 17th:
10:00am - 11am - Opening Ceremonies
11:00am - 12:00pm - Survivor Hour
12:00pm - 1:00pm - Caregivers Hour
