Yosemite in Summer 2022

 

With Gemma back into action, she thought about revisiting an old favorite area" Yosemite. Sadly some time after she first wrote about it, the owner reluctantly closed it due to being unable to maintain it due to health problems. But as she recovered, she was able to bring back a smaller version, Little Yosemite, with plans to bring it back in full once health and finances would allow her to do so. Today, the park is back. While some parts are still being worked on, it's open to visitors and there is much to see. So Gemma took a look around. So what did she think?

Mount Campion Park

Second Life has a number of parks with detailed scenery. But not many offer mountain trails. Fewer offer caverns to walk in. One offers both: Mount Campion Park. Standing over 300 meters tall, this is one of the tallest places on the Second Life mainland and offers a lot to see from winding caverns and tunnels to trails that go around and up and down the mountainside to detailed scenery. And if you want to stay a while, you can rent a cabin. Yours truly stopped by and had a look around.

Second Life Destinations: "Horse Riding and Enthusiast Communities"

Even though motor vehicles have long been the dominant form of transportation for about a century, there's something about riding horses. In this week's Second Life Destinations, Linden Lab puts the spotlight on places and groups related to horses, or "Horse Riding and Enthusiast Communities."

This week, we shine a spotlight on the many virtual horse communities in Second Life. ... there is renewed interest in equestrian experiences across the Grid. Horse lovers need places to saddle up and ride...and there’s no shortage of destinations that cater to horse enthusiasts ...  Check out the Pets & Animals category in the Destination Guide for even more options.

The number of horse groups, breedable horse companies, and horseback riding locations are too numerous to mention. Last month, we interviewed Kitacelia about the challenges of raising breedable horses. If one wants to get a horse from her, she has a few at Dark Moon Rising at Helmsgarde (14/20/22).

Templeton Cove

Gemma Cleanslate's travels took her to a sixteen-sim estate named Templeton Cove. A mostly wilderness and water area, some places are only for those who rent there, but there are plenty of fun areas open to all. Among the things one can do are horseback riding, hiking, and biking trails, ballooning, kayaking, bumper cars, and more. And of course there's the scenery.

Theater on the Hill

Gemma Cleanslate recently traveled to a place of which it's events are sometimes written about, but it was time to write on the location itself: Theater on the Hill. Taking up two sims, Pure Luxury and Theater Stage, as a theater and location for events, it is expertly contsructed and very much suited for it's task. But there's more to the area than the theater. Outside the building, there are a number of paths to walk around. Plus there's an art museum, and a shop where a lady can get a dress.

Calas Galadhon Sims

With a number of notable locations vanishing or are about to recently, Gemma Cleanslate went to one longtime favorite of hers that is still around: The Calas Galadhon sims. With twelve sims to ride around and explore in, there's quite a lot of wilderness area to see. Plus there are clubs around.

Aero Pines Harvest Festival and Halloween Trail

On the lookout for Halloween Haunts, Gemma Cleanslate found some at a familiar place: Areo Pines Park. The park changes with the season, and with the fall comes the Autumn Festival. But it's also the season of spooky fun as October 31st approaches, so the staff added some chills and thrills at a place more noted for nature trails and horseback riding. Gemma took a look, and was not disappointed.

Motorcycle Mania on Route 66

Becky "Sha" Shamen has been out "on the road again" exploring. This time, she went on horseback to take a look at a place made for a group of motorcycle fans. Members of the group get to travel across twelve picturesque sims with a Southwest American desert theme. And crossing it, Becky came across numerous bikers, biker hangouts, and miles of dry desert. So how did Becky fare during her exploring?
