A few days ago, a fundraising event started in Second Life: "Forget Me Not."
The Forget ME not Fair is an annual fundraiser shopping event to benefit Open Medicine Foundation – leading research of ME (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis), Long Covid, Fibromyalgia and related chronic conditions.
Exclusive items of this event are mainly BLUE (the color of ME awareness).
The event to raise money to help combat Myalgic Encephalomyelitis , or chronic fatigue syndrome, started on Tuesday August 8 "to mark the 'Severe ME Day' in honor of the most severely affected and in remembrance of those who have passed." Besides the items up for purchase, with some of the money going to the Open Medicine Foundation.
There's also a raffle that people can enter for a chance at one of five 1000L gift cards. The first ticket is free. More can be purchased for 100L each, with all of the Lindens going to the charity.

"Forget Me Not" also has a permanent location in Second Life, at the Super Island sim at (160/49/22). It was recently shown in Second Life Destinations, and was built by Adelia Meli (QueenAdelia Resident) who has been combating the syndrome since 2010 and hopes to raise awareness for the condition. Dropping by, there were numerous short testimonials from various people with ME.

greet visitors warmly with their group’s message: “Angels Rest is a
memorial garden offering space for you to create a focal point for
remembrance. The aim is to offer a chance for quiet contemplation and
reflection away from daily distractions.” The environment invites one to
be vulnerable among the serenity of nature, with an occasional wild
animal hopping about to remind you that you’re not alone.
"Assembling a sacred virtual space that is accessible 24/7, rain or
shine, was an enormously thoughtful endeavor. It is hard enough losing a
loved one, and during the added strain of coronavirus tumult, many
survivors were not able to honor traditional funeral practices for
safety reasons. Fae says, “I have lost people in my life who I wanted a
way of memorialising. It seemed to me that there was such a huge need
for this, especially this year with the COVID pandemic. I met a couple
who had a similar kind of garden but they were not able to maintain it,
and it had to close, so I decided I wanted to fill the gap that had been
left behind.”
"Fae, elaborating further on her vision for Angels Rest, says, “I have
seen and felt firsthand the effects that social isolation has had on
both myself and my nearest and dearest… We wanted to create a place that
people can spend time and have peace and reflection in the virtual ways
that we are able to right now. It was very important to us that we be
able to provide this free of charge as so many are struggling right now,
and so we came up with the idea of the refunded rental.”
"The rental options include candles and plots that can be decorated with
pictures, messages, flowers, or other meaningful mementos. Many people
commemorate their pets as well, as is visible from the glass display
case showing a four-legged friend in a perfect slumber. The space makes
its inclusive atmosphere clear with its centerpiece, the Ecunemical
Chapel bearing objects that represent all major world relations.
"For visitors who are struggling with grief, a notecard offers important
information such as phone numbers and email addresses of both
Bereavement and Mental Health Services. We hope that all those who visit
Angels Rest are provided with joyful reminders of loved ones and the strength to carry on."

Linden Lab's "Second Life Destinations" from a few days ago is a small step to a time and place most of us have seen only in movies, downtown New York in the 1920s-1940s period.
Put
on your very best era-appropriate outfit (think Guys and Dolls, The
Great Gatsby, The Aviator, or Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries) and step
through the Time Portal and into New York in the 1920 - 1940s. This
week’s Destination video takes a jazzy glimpse into the steaming
streets and humming hustle of New York during one of it’s most

The latest "Second Life Destinations" by Linden Lab puts the spotlight on Insilico, a noted sci-fi roleplay area that also looks visually well-built.
Role-playing
is one of the many ways in which Residents choose to spend their time
in Second Life. From supernatural fairy tales to gothic vampires and
medieval battles, there are long-standing communities and Regions built
around elaborate and rich lores. It is possible to visit any of our over 200 Role-playing communities and find your niche.

This week’s Destinations video takes a glimpse into InSilico, which is one of the longest running role-playing communities in Second Life.
InSilico
is an immersive, futuristic, cyberpunk world full of interesting

InSilico is a painstakingly detailed space that you will want to
explore, photograph, and you may just find yourself swept into the story
as a participating citizen.
