Virtial Ability "Supernatural" Track Build

Today, Gemma Cleanslate reports on an event to help raise funds for Virtual Ability, a motorbike race in The Continental 2 sim. The fifth event of it's kind, this year the theme is "Supernatural." From last Friday to this upcoming Saturday, there will be music events, showcases to vote on the most stylish bike, items up for sale, and at last some racing. Gemma had a good look around. So what did she see?

Cartoon of The Day: Monster Motorbike

Taken at The Continental sim. This was a display of a mummy on a motorbike. But it could easily be mistaken for a guy in bandages, which is what can easily happen if a rider takes a spill.

Echovets Gateway For Veteran Newcomers Now Open

Last month, the Newser reported that Echovets had been granted a gateway sim by Linden Lab, the first and so far the only one to be aimed at newcomers who are military veterans. But it had been an empty sim that needed to be built on. A few days ago, Echovets' leader, Stacy Lee (Stacy Maracas), informed me the gateway was now open for newcomers, the construction of it's buildings completed.

"Here at Echo Group Band of Brothers Gateway, we know how overwhelming Second Life can be when you first rezz in.  We went out of our way to ensure our uniformed service residents, their families and supporters, not only receive the knowledge of being a new resident, but also interactive everything for hands on learning as well.  We feel that it will make new residents want to stay in Second Life and keep learning more."

Stacy described herself as exhausted, but proud of what the sim had become and now had to offer. There was a newcomer orientation area where one could learn the basics on how to get about Second Life. But there was more. There was a mall area. There was a golf course. There was a bumper boats pool. There was a sandbox. There was a picturesque garden. There was a firepit welcome area. And more.

One place Stacy was particularly proud of was the Echovets Bike Track. Located over the sim, it offered a long track that would take some time for motorcycles, or perhaps cars or horses, to make their way up to the end. It offered occasional signs and other scenery along the track, sometimes funny, sometimes serious.

A valuable asset for military veterans new to Second Life.

New Genisis Bay Riding Sim

There are a number of racetracks around Second Life, including some three-dimensional ones that would hardly be possible in real life, twisting up and down. Some are fairly long and take a little time to go from start to finish. But at the Kinder der Nacht sim, I saw a track that is REALLY long. It bills itself as 25 segments high, and needing an hour to finish. And having lost track of time and distance when trying it out, it measures up to it's claims. And it's not just the length that distinguishes it, but the variety of scenery from urban to countryside to something out of the imagination. So just what was the experience like?

Taken at the "Five Days of Relay" motorcycle run on the Relay sims. One case of sim crossing lag looked like a heck of a power jump that would make one wonder just what was in the fuel tank.

Reader Submitted: "Diggy and Madori Linden"

From Lady Digs Jewel (1x1x141 Digfoot): "I've had more positive than negative in dealing with LL. Riding sims are tricky to manage. But I did have a Linden from live chat ride on the back of my motorcycle for 2 hours for the ride up one sim and down the other with 20 members of the MC in tow. .. all the while me MC pres was skeptical about her ability and want to do anything ... and LL switched the sims to the Le Tigre server thanks to me being stubborn and working with Madori. .... I had her ride with me and she saw what was going on the sims. Without her concentrating on the navigation, she was able to concentrate on what the numbers were doing on the sim."

JFC Bike Store

Introduction

JFC Bike store was founded in 2008 by Jayra Magic. She was tired of bikes that ride and steer the same way. So, she decided to make her own bikes in Second Life. She wanted to create a bike with their own character and spirit. She spend many nights with “Mr. Try” and “Dr. Error” to fine tune the good old HQ 1.0 script. Before Jayra Magic made bikes in Second Life, she was pole-dancing at a club called “Killing Floor” to make some money for her first bike-parts. The challenge was to seek a balance between the different vehicle parameters, because when you change one it affects the others. Lexei Glas (LG Bikes) taught her the basics of bike creation and also shared scripts. That’s when the JFC bike script was born.

JFC Bike store

The first “official” JFC Bike store was on Biker World. There she met up with Moppi Riddler , who asked her if she could do some creative stuff in Second Life too. She agreed and Moppi Riddler agreed to make some biker outfits to fit with the bikes Today Moppi Riddler is the proud owner of MRSTYLE bike outfit store, which is located next to JFC Bike Store.

Dixie Jefferson completed their team she helped out with scripts, building, sculpts and mesh to create the awesome roads that surround the sim. There are so many people that Jayra Magic would like to thank.

After the store moved to different other locations, the store finally stranded on the “CALI to NYC’ sim, and that’s where the store is still located.

The JFC Bike store building is a modern building with rez pads for every single bike. So, when you want to try out a bike, just click on the rez pad and it will rez a demo bike for you. Then you can ride the bike to see if it fits you. You can ride around the roads surrounding the store to find out if the bike rides like you want it to. When it does, you can buy the bike at the store.

Everyone is welcome to hang out at the store and enjoy riding the bikes.

At the JFC Bike store you can find bikes, motorcycles, choppers. They are all made in high quality bike-parts and they are all scripted with the unique feature-rich and low lag scripts of JFC bikes.
Jayra Magic says “"Let me create to enjoy and share the fun and feeling."
Her bikes are the best bikes in Second Life.

So, come and find your new bike at JFC bike store at :

Jayra Magic and JFC Bikes

By Wesley Regenbogen

About Jayra Magic

Jayra Magic is the owner and creator of the JFC Bikes and the store. She’s a bike builder and has a bike store. Making bikes in Second Life is her passion and she’s good at her job. Her bikes are awesome bikes, because she puts her passion into making them.

I met Jayra Magic at the place where she makes her bikes, after she teleported me over.

I first asked how she was doing and she told me “I’m doing fine” and she asked how I was doing and I told her I was doing very well.

I asked how she got started in Second Life and how she got started as a bike creator. She told me that a friend of her told her about Second Life and that it didn’t take too long before she met people that liked bikes as she did.

Next, I asked her how bikes are made and what processes that it goes through to get into the final product and ready to be sold. She told me that there are multiple ways to get a bike made : she buys bike parts and puts them together until it looks like a bike, or she buys bike-kits and puts her own scripts into it and also adds her own textures.

Creating a bike can take weeks, she also told me. So, making bikes is time consuming. It takes so long because she has her own vision on how it needs to look and sometimes she can't find the right bike parts. So, that's why she makes her own bike parts too. She wants every bike to have their own character and not only a look. So fine tuning it can also take a few days work.

Then I asked her if she has a collaboration with other bike creators or she only works solo. She told me that she always likes to learn from other bike creators and that Lexei Glas (LG Bikes) teached her the important things about Second Life bikes. She has a special collaboration with Moppi Riddler, the bike outfit creator called MRSTYLE, they have been friends for over 9 years. Her shop is located next to the JFC bike store.

When I asked her where she gets the inspiration for creating bikes in Second Life, she told me that gets many ideas from customers and also from real life role models and also her own fantasies and ideas that she has.

Then I asked her if she has lots of customers from MCs, or motorcycle clubs, around Second Life. She told me that she has many people from MC’s in Second Life, but also non MC related people that want to buy a bike. There are many people that are in a MC in Second Life that ride bikes from JFC. She is proud that people ride her bikes in Second Life.

I asked her what if a customer wants a custom made bike. She told me that if it doesn’t cost her more to make it, she sells it at the regular price, but she currently is unable to make custom bikes. She doesn’t make bikes for 1 person, but she wants to make bikes for everybody out there. She wants to share her creations ( the bikes ) with everyone.

The last question I asked was what plans that she has for the future. She told me that she hopes to keep on selling bikes and that her shops continues to grow and that her store runs for a couple of years at least. And she hopes that she never runs out of ideas to make bikes. She also hopes that she can spend more time exploring biker sims and also join in on parties/concerts and also doing some sailing in Second Life.

I thanked her for taking the time for doing the interview and wished her luck in the future.

How To Get From Zero to Hero (aka Patched) in the Cobras Motorcycle Club

Last month, Wesley Regenbogen wrote about the Cobras Motorcycle Club. One detail that was mentioned only briefly is how those interested can join up with them. As it turns out, there are a few levels of membership from those whom have recently been hanging around with them, whom they call "hang arounds," to being a full member, or "patched."

The Cobras MC Motorcycle Club

Wesley Regenbogen has been riding on the wild side lately. He met up with a motorcycle club called the "Cobras MC," and began hanging out with them with the idea of doing a story on them. But they got along well enough to the point he was invited in, or "patched in" to borrow a term from biker lingo. So who are the Cobras and where do they ride? Wesley had a few things to say.

Scenes From the Sunbeamers' Road Rally

For most teams in the Relay for Life in Second Life, the Relay Weekend marks the end of their activity. But the Sunbeamers had one last event: their Third Annual Road Rally. Participants both in and outside the Sunweaver community dropped by to burn some rubber, or just watch and/or donate some cash. Besides the excitement of the competition, there was also excitement in the air over the team being close to the coveted Platinum level, which the Sunbeamers had yet to reach since the team was formed a few years ago. So who had the fastest wheels?
