After the main-part of the drive, was then also a visit of the RFL-event. The RFL event is pretty awesome made, but I am pretty overloaded with work at this time, so I have not enough time to appreciate it right. I try my best and give best wishes. Don't be fooled by my 'fast trough'."

Great article on the SL Grid Drive.  Enjoyed reading that.  Here is a recent bit from my drive adventures.  Unfortunately I don't have the photos to back this up. Just for your info.

Typically I do the Grid Drive a little later than the group start on Saturday after the Giant Snail races are done. I do it on my own but I see all sorts of other drivers out then. Some I might pass as I am usually pretty speedy. Others might pass me or I might keep seeing them at the stops along the way.

Most weeks, usually at a stop somewhere along the way I'll find the place will packed with what I call the "My Little Pony gang." Last week I arrived at a little outdoor bar where the Nav HUD said we were to sit. There were only about 3 or 4 seats. The ponies were all hippity-hopping and surrounding me on all sides. Must have been 10 or 15 or more, all madly gesturing funny noises and stuff as we approached the bar. Totally mobbed by ponies. They were taking turns on the seats. I decided just to ground sit amongst them which also triggered the HUD to move to the next part. A hilarious crazy few minutes there.

As I pulled out of the parking lot in my sports car. I noticed a bus pull up and sure enough all the ponies were riding that day on a big charter bus and were all hopping back on as I left.  Heh heh.

 

So funny, sure brightens your day when you run into something like that.

New Genisis Bay Riding Sim

 

There are a number of racetracks around Second Life, including some three-dimensional ones that would hardly be possible in real life, twisting up and down. Some are fairly long and take a little time to go from start to finish. But at the Kinder der Nacht sim, I saw a track that is REALLY long. It bills itself as 25 segments high, and needing an hour to finish. And having lost track of time and distance when trying it out, it measures up to it's claims. And it's not just the length that distinguishes it, but the variety of scenery from urban to countryside to something out of the imagination. So just what was the experience like?

AGRA Racing

Second Life isn't really a "game," though one can play games inside it. Among activities one can do are races, and one can find a few racetracks around the Grid. But how about one in which your car goes up and down walls? At the AGRA racetrack, you drive a car out of a sci-fi setting, and race on a track that not only offers challenging twists and turns, but takes you up and down the walls. I had a few words with two of the people behind this unique race in Second Life, at United Furry Outpost, as well as seeing it in action myself.

From Trader Whiplash. Fuzzball Ortega has a reputation for being a less than sterling driver. Trader Whiplash shared this picture of him behind the wheel in an out of control moment.

Relay Eve

As the hours counted down to the Relay weekend, some people couldn't wait for the party to get started. At RFL Activities 2 Trader Whiplash played some music to a crowd there.

Gemma Cleanslate went down the track, noting SL Newser kiosks in some places.

I came across a few of team Dreamin' in Purple, in their toy cars.

Cynthia Farshore and I would do a drive of our own, on her Model T. After the reckless driving incident, Camaros were out.

Among the places we stopped was the camp of Meli's Maniacs, a team the Seunbeamers have held a number of joint events with this season.

And so, the weekend the Relayers have been waiting for since March has finally arrived. It's going to be quite a 24 hours this Saturday and Sunday.

At one point last night while the camps of the Relay Track were being worked on, there was a bit of panic in the Relay for Life Track builder chat, Fuzzball Ortega saying, "I don't know who's driving that vehicle. But......EVERYONE OFF THE TRACK!!!!" He added a few seconds later, "And no....it's not me." Athenaeum Archivist told the group, "They crashed into our stack of books and drove off." Madonna Daehlie commented, "That's even more dangerous than the lunatic flying around the track in a Wright Flyer this week." Fuzzball commented further, "I saw some car driving all over the track, and I said to myself, "Damn, I thought Fuzz wasn't rezzing any vehicles" and then I realized, 'I'm Fuzz'." KumaguroBunnyBear Resident commented, "I've known people to land cars in trees and on roofs."

Eclair Martinek admitted being the guilty driver, "Dianna kept talking to me while I was driving. I hope I didn't destroy any campsites." But the car was never found, she later saying she drove it into a body of water to get rid of the evidence. Trader Whiplash had to leave when this incident was still fresh, "I leave you all to drive each other nuts until I return. Don't burn down the sims."

No doubt there will continue to be examples of mayhem and hilarity at the Relay Track as time ticks on to the Relay Weekend this Saturday and Sunday.

SL Video: "Nova Albion Parade and Celebratrion of 10 Year Anniversary "

RacerX Gullwing's video of him in Nova Albion's Tenth Anniversary Parade. The Second Life Wikia states the region was "Second Life's first official City sims. Features of these sims included twice the prim allowance, as well as a full array of Linden-created infrastructure." Every year, the city holds an anniversary event. This year, it was on Sunday March 23rd.

Unfortunately, RacerX's driving leaves something to be desired.
