Relay Weekend Starts Tomorrow

 

 After another great season, the Relay for Life in Second Life is almost about to experience its high point of the year: The Relay Weekend. Described as the most intense 24 hours of Second Life, there are dozens of camps across 36 sims, here's several of them.

The opening ceremonies start at 10 AM, with the Survivor & Caregiver lap at 11, and the team laps start at Noon SL time.

Relay Track Sims on The Map

 

 One of the reminders of the Relay for Life season approaching it's high point showed itself this week, with the appearance of the Relay Weekend track sims. There are 36 sims in total, including the permanent American Cancer Society sim and it's two sister sims.

 

There's some builds in ACS2 and 3, but there aren't any campsites yet, just markers for the team camps. We won't be showing full-sized pictures of camps while they're still being build, but will be posting an occasional teaser showing a tiny part of one as a demonstration of what's to come.

RFL Track Sneak Peeks: Meli's Maniacs, Back To The 80s

Relay Track Sneak Peek: Maniacs Tribute

 

Violet Solano notified me of an "impostor" at the Meli's Maniacs campsite of the Relay track. When I got there, her response to my saying I found it was, "We figured you could use a laugh." Ginger (Dusk Griswold) would tell me, "Glad you liked your mannequin. (smile)  It was Vi's idea, but I let the club know what happened the other night, and we decided since you promote us in the paper, to add you. Vi did a great job on it."

So thanks to the Maniacs for their tribute to a certain online reporter.

Relay Track Sneak Peeks

 Work on the Relay track continues. While we can't show you entire campsites, yet, we can show you sneak peeks. Here's one from the Sunbeamer camp.

Nance Clowes' exhibit had this character laughing.

The T-1 Radio station, where the music will be played and any discussion heard from.

 One camp had a roller coaster on it. How big is it and what else is there? You'll see.

The Hopefest begins Wednesday June 8, and the Relay Weekend takes place Saturday June 12 to Sunday June 13.

Relay Track Update

 With only a few days to go before the Hopefest, and six until the Relay Weekend, the various teams are busy building their campsites. This includes Team Sunbeamers. Located at RFL Celebrate, I can't show much of the camp, yet. But Shockwave Yareach and Cynthia Farshore are constructing a good one. 

Since reaching Sapphire level fundraising late last month, the Sunbeamers have continued to bring in donations. Ĵäηūş Ȥєקんץяɨηє Ⓑɨƙςɨη (Mariru256 Resident) informed the Newser that last night a raffle in behalf of the RFL Sunbeamer team at the Gathering Oak hangout had concluded. Of the ten tickets, the winning one belonged to Crystal Sabre (CrystalAmber69 Resident). The prize was a *HEXtraordinary* Fennec Fox Wanderer (cream). 

As of the writing of this brief, Team Sunbeamers has raised a total of 790,003 Linden dollars.

Meli's Maniacs have also been at work on their campsite.

Looks like someone really put their foot down with this build.

No, they don't work for Santa.

The Hopefest begins Wednesday June 8, and the Relay Weekend takes place Saturday June 12 to Sunday June 13.

Weekend in Brief

A number of events took place this weekend.  On Friday afternoon Mat 7, Linden Lab announced a few limited edition last names in theme for Mothers Day, but they would only be available until Monday May 10 (today). It would be the last weekend of the Fantasy Faire, and some portions such as it's Literary Festival would hold their last events. There were various Relay events such as Songbird Sorbet's live music performance for Team Meli's Maniacs (above) and the Sunbeamer & Roos With a Dream Air Show, both on Saturday May 8. The CDS declared it's members for the next Representative Assembly. The SL Enquirer hosted the 2021 "Slammy Awards."  And more.

RFL Announcement: Songbird Sorbet Sings At Club Amaranth

 
RFL Team, Meli's Maniacs, along with Clubs Amarantha, will be hosting Songbird Sorbet in a Live Vocal Performance on Saturday, May 8th, 2021 at 11:00 am (slt). Songbird Sorbet is a cover singer performing songs ranging from Rock, Pop, and Country.  Songbird started her SL singing career in the tiny community of Raglan Shire in 2010 and has gained fans from all over the grid. Everyone is welcome to attend this PG-rated event, even if you have donated elsewhere or simply can't, come on over and enjoy this fantastic event with us. All tips and donations will benefit RFL of Second Life American Cancer Society in an effort to help find a cure for cancer!

Memorial for ComCat Fenstalker

It was a month ago that ComCat Fenstalker, a regular of Club Amaranth whom occasionally went to the Sunweaver clubs suddenly passed away. On Saturday June 13, a memorial event was held at Club Amaranth by a number of her friends. While the people were sad, they were happy to have known her.

Scenes From the Relay

Thursday June 4 had a few things going on at the Relay track. One was the chat with Safia Widdershins, whom talked to some of the Committee in RFL Acceptance, which was in the Bellissarian area.

Looking around afterwards, nearby was the Bellia Blues Cafe, a Linden Home made into a venue, with music and coffee.

Later, looking around with Matt Carlton, we saw the Seekers of Hope camp in RFL Courage. Sandy Slate told us the playable game in the camp was based on Settlers of Catlan.

In RFL Fight Back, we found a playable Mojong board, giant sized.

In RFL Healing was the Meli's Maniacs camp, based on the Stragego board game. Not playable, it symbolized the struggle with cancer, "It's not a game, it's a battle."

And the Sunbeamers finished their own build, with a build based on Monopoly and a memorial garden with facts on cancer. Check it out at RFL Hope (120/41/23).

Looking Back at ComCat Fenstalker

The Sunweaver community and the Meli's Maniacs Relay team got some sad news this weekend. ComCat Fenstalker, also known by her display name CC, had passed away. The Newser talked to a couple people who knew her, Dusk Griswold and Violet Solano, who both had a number of things to say about her.

Sunbeamers Reach Jade Due To Anonymous Donor

The weekend of May 8-10 was very much a successful one for Team Sunbeamers. On Friday May 8, the day DJ Matt was playing at the Fantasy Faire, an anonymous donor donated a huge amount of Lindens, sending the team past the half million mark, or Jade fundraising level.

"I checked the web site total early today and it was 473,100," Cynthia Farshore told me near the end of the day, "I knew we needed 26900 to make 500k ... which 26900 plus the over totals ...64,968! So just today we racked in just under 65k." Team Captain Rita Mariner would later say, "I am curious as all heck, who pushed us over the hump into JADE. I have no clue and it came as a huge happy surprise to me."

Saturday was the day of the multi-team event at Meli's Maniac's Club Amarantha. The Bring Your Own Kiosk event was a fantastic success for the Maniacs, with over 80,000 Lindens brought in. At one point, they pulled their kiosk down so the other teams there would get more cash. By Monday, their team total would cross the 100K mark to 102,000 Lindens. The Sunbeamers would make a little over 10,000 L at the party.

On Saturday night, the results of Shockwave Yareach and Cyanthia's two "Bid Me" events were totaled at Club Cutlass. It had been expected they would be having a change of appearances for a few weeks, but like with Nydia's event a few weeks ago, there was a last minute surprise. Enough money had been donated in their "stay" kiosks to keep them as is.

Talking to Cynthia, she was a little worried if some people were disappointed at the results, expecting a change. But Rita was happy, saying the team had gotten almost 48,000 Lindens as a result.

As of now, the Sunbeamers have raised 582,100 Linden dollars. And the team still has much to do. There's a special event by the Sunbeamers this Friday at a special location, plus a "Moon Dance" at Sunlight Bay a week from now on Tuesday May 19. Both events are Bring Your Own Kiosk. The team is confident of reaching Sapphire rank, 750,000 Linden dollars soon.
