Pictures From HopeFest, Relay Weekend

 *

Gemma Cleanslate was at the Relay for Life's Hopefest event last week. It was quite the event with a number of Lindens and Moles showing up, including Patch Linden.

Gemma would get a picture of herself with Abnor Mole.

Gemma would also go on the Relay Walk last weekend. Here she is on her segway, with Godzilla not far behind.

The huge avatar would make a big appearance at the "Don't Want to Go Home Party."

The Relay was certainly a big story. But much of the storytelling will have to wait. Just as the teams are taking down their camps today, the Second Life Birthday is just about to start. But we at the Newser will see what we can do.

At The Hopefest

 *

Since Wednesday June 8, the Hopefest has been taking place. While technically a five day event, the three days from Wednesday to Friday get most of the attention.

In RFL Life, there were live music events such as Tia Rungway's piano performance.

And there were DJs such as Tracer Graves and Nat The Cat. One event I missed was the particle show by Color Alchemist.

Also in the sim were some raffles, and silent auctions.

To the south in RFL Knowledge was the Goblin Fair, with a number of Medieval and Rennisance-themed amusements, alongside some such as paintball.

In RFL Knowledge are more modern-themed attractions at an amusement park.

While not part of the Hopefest, there were other happenings elsewhere at the Relay track, such as a dance performance at the Gorean area.

Today (Friday June 10) from Noon to 3PM is the Linden and Mole Barbecue with Patch Linden. So come by if you have a moment.

Tomorrow of course is the big weekend, the Relay Walk. So don't forget this most intense 24 hours of Second Life as well.

Hopefest Begins Today

The Hopefest, "five days of SL communities building hope to support the Relay For Life of Second Life and the American Cancer Society," begins today. Taking place in three of the Relay Track sims, RFL Life, RFL Knowledge and RFL Manage, it offers an early peek at the Relay track, and a chance to have some fun before the big crowds (and lag) of the big weekend.

There's plenty to do. There are the mega-raffles, for things to bid on such as a Premium account for a year. There are the silent auctions. There is the entertainment on stage. And there's the Linden Block Party on Friday June 10.

The Relay Weekend Track

In just two weeks since they were spotted online, the thirty-six sims of the Relay Weekend track have been developed from practically bare (minus the American Cancer Society sim) to a patchwork of builds. The various campsites have their exhibits, and the designer sims are complete.

Currently the Hopefest events are continuing, and tomorrow and Sunday of course is the main event: The Relay Weekend. The busiest 24 hour period of Second Life, it's been called the virtual world's biggest test in it's ability to handle traffic. While no doubt it sees plenty of crashes and the occasional sim going offline for a bit, considering what the event is about, the well done builds, the excitement, the comradery, and of course the fight against cancer, most feel it's well worth it.

The Opening Ceremonies start at 10 AM tomorrow, and the event goes on to the Closing Ceremonies at 10AM Sunday to the Victory Lab at 11AM, which pretty much lasts until most everyone has left.

Go Relay!

Hopefest And The Opening of The Relay Track

Yesterday, Wednesday June 9, was the start of the Hopefest. While technically it last for five days, it's often thought of as the three days before the Relay Weekend (Saturday June 12 and Sunday June 13). One event was the Hopefest Medieval in RFL Cure, which included events like jous4ing.

Also going on was Bellisseria for RFL Hopefest, which had live musicians such as Zax Claxton, taking place in RFL Hope.

Besides the events, there was of course the various team campsites and their exhibits that were now open to the public. And there was much to see.

More to come.

Still More Relay Track Sneak Peeks

Work continues on the various Relay builds. At RFL Stage, Silver Howler was working away (since this picture, the place looks a little different).

RFL Spirit was given to artist Fiona Fei to work with, whom made quite a decorative scene.

In RFL Strength, I took a kite for a ride.

And what will be revealed here?

Of the Sunbeamer camp, the main feature will be a game, "The Prince and the Spot Game."

More to be revealed tomorrow morning, which is the day the Hopefest begins, Wednesday June 9. Saturday June 12 to Sunday June 13 is the day of the Relay Weekend.

Go Relay!

Relay Track Sneak Peeks

Work on the Relay track continues. While we can't show you entire campsites, yet, we can show you sneak peeks. Here's one from the Sunbeamer camp.

Nance Clowes' exhibit had this character laughing.

The T-1 Radio station, where the music will be played and any discussion heard from.

One camp had a roller coaster on it. How big is it and what else is there? You'll see.

The Hopefest begins Wednesday June 8, and the Relay Weekend takes place Saturday June 12 to Sunday June 13.

More to come.

Weekend in Brief

Quite a bit happened this weekend. The Newser celebrated it's 11th anniversary and the Happy Vixen Beach Club celebrated it's tenth (above). The Confederation of Democratic Simulators held it's Inaugural Ball. There were also a number of Relay events, but the main effort was that of the various teams on the Relay Weekend track, which opens to the Relayers in a few days for the Hopefest. *

Read more on some of these events later.

Relay Track Update

With only a few days to go before the Hopefest, and six until the Relay Weekend, the various teams are busy building their campsites. This includes Team Sunbeamers. Located at RFL Celebrate, I can't show much of the camp, yet. But Shockwave Yareach and Cynthia Farshore are constructing a good one.

Since reaching Sapphire level fundraising late last month, the Sunbeamers have continued to bring in donations. Ĵäηūş Ȥєקんץяɨηє Ⓑɨƙςɨη (Mariru256 Resident) informed the Newser that last night a raffle in behalf of the RFL Sunbeamer team at the Gathering Oak hangout had concluded. Of the ten tickets, the winning one belonged to Crystal Sabre (CrystalAmber69 Resident). The prize was a *HEXtraordinary* Fennec Fox Wanderer (cream).

As of the writing of this brief, Team Sunbeamers has raised a total of 790,003 Linden dollars.

Meli's Maniacs have also been at work on their campsite.

Looks like someone really put their foot down with this build.

No, they don't work for Santa.

Should we really be afraid, or is the description a "mis-gnomer?"

The Hopefest begins Wednesday June 8, and the Relay Weekend takes place Saturday June 12 to Sunday June 13.

Go Relay!

RFL Relay Weekend Track Sims On The Map

While the Moles have been working on the Second Life Birthday area, the setting up of another place for a big event is starting. Checking the American Cancer Society sim, a look at the map show the land for the track for the Relay Weekend has been set up. Counting ACS, there are a total of 36 sims. While some of the land will be exhibition areas, most of it will be camps for the various Relay teams.

As of now, only a handful are allowed on the Relay Track, including those on the Newser staff whom are part of Relay teams. So there's only so much we can show, and we have no plans to show anything but teasers of the camps until the "Hopefest" events begin (builders don't usually like pictures taken of unfinished exhibits). But until then, various builders are working on the campsite exhibits (including those of the Sunbeamers).

The Hopefest begins on Wednesday June 9, and the Relay Weekend takes place Saturday June 12 and Sunday June 13.
