The Sunbeamer Camp

Tomorrow is the Relay Weekend. Described as Second Life's most intense 24 hours, hundreds will be walking the Relay track and past dozens of campsites. Among them is the Sunbeamer's camp at RFL Win. Most of the work was done by Cynthia Farshore and Shockwave Yareach.

This year, the camp is a somewhat wooded area with a trail winding around, with a grand entrance area with an arch and sparks. In the middle is the Hope Lodge. Going around the track, you might want to keep an eye out for snakes, and other dangers. The snakes can be hunted down and shot, leaving a red stain on the ground.

For fun, one can play a game. There are a dozen Chinese Restaurant take-out containers. Try to find all 12.

Relay Track Sneak Peek

Taken at the Relay Track a few days ago. The Roos With A Dream were working on their campsite. What will it look like when it's done? Stay tuned.

Relay Track Sneak Peek

From the Sunbeamer camp at RFL Win. As the "little team that could," the Sunbeamers are proud of their record. So they, or rather we since I'm on the team, fly the flag high.

The Last 2024 Moon Dance And The Sunbeamer Camp

Last night, Thursday June 6, the Relay for Life's Sunbeamer team held the last of their weekly Moon Dance events. It was held in the lunar surface high above Sunweaver Space. I arrived with Charlee in time to hear DJ Cynthia Farshore play a number of Big Band tunes and other music from World War Two.

Cynthia would later tell me earlier she had started off with the first known recording of a human voice, in 1860, "I played recordings through the decades 1860, 1878 (Edison little lamb) 1898 cylinder and the various music from 1903 to today covering each decade with several records ... D-Day did cross my mind but instead I wanted to end the Moon Dance in Relay Theme."

People from other teams, such as Purple Tears, Meli's Maniacs, and several from Roos With A Dream showed up. The Roos and Sunnies were in particularly good spirits, having reached Ruby and Emerald levels this week.

At 6PM, the fireworks went off, and the last song, "I Run For Life" played. People would say their goodbyes, and head out, "See you at the Relay Weekend Saturday."

At the Relay track at RFL Knowledge, the Sunbeamer camp was finally finished. Cynthia and Shockwave Yareach were the main builders for the place. In the middle is the "Carousel of Hope" showing how things have changed over the decades.

Most of the Luminaria had been lit up with tributes to Cynthia and Shockwave, Snowy Lefavre, Charlee Shuftan, and someone chose to honor the SL Newser.

Correction: I originally stated that the music at the Moon Dance was a D-Day theme. What happened was I arrived late, and that was what I heard.

RFL Track Sneak Peeks: Meli's Maniacs, Back To The 80s

Taken at the campsite of the Relay's Meli's Maniacs team. The place was still under construction, so they had this sign out.

Taken at RFL Reflection. The theme being "Decades of Hope," it's obvious which decade this camp wanted to show off.

Word has it the Relay sims are now open to all volunteers. So whole pictures of campsites will be soon.

Cartoon of The Day: A Nest With Legs

Picture taken by Charlee Shuftan (Charlee Amethyst). At the Quest for A Cure camp, there were some things that looked like birds' nests with legs. Guess they wanted a kick-butt design.

Team Sunbeamer Group Photo

On Tuesday June 14, some of the Relay's Team Sunbeamers met up for their annual post-Relay Weekend group photo, in front of the camp at RFL Advocacy. Not everyone could make it, such as Cynthia Farshore, Shockwave Yareach, and Mattie Carlton. And some were in Bid Me and Relay avatar challenge looks. But it's a picture for the Sunbeamer books.

RFL Weekend: The Sunbeamer Camp

The Relay Weekend has arrived, and on the track many dozens of teams have their campsites set up. This includes Team Sunbeamers, who have their camp set up in RFL Advocacy.

With the theme this year being "Hope Floats," there are balloons that will take people to a few floating islands, each with information about cancer and treating it.

As with previous Sunbeamer camps, a big part of this campsite is the Memorial Garden, where numerous people who passed from cancer, including some particularly close to the team, are honored.

There is also the Hope Lodge. For several of the Sunbeamers, the fight against cancer is a personal one, either having suffered from it themselves, or having to care for someone who had.

It should also be noted that this year, the Sunbeamers didn't just build a camp, but were able to sponsor the sim.

By all means drop by today, and tomorrow, but don't forget to walk the track and see many other great campsites.

Go Sunbeamers! Go Relay!

Reader Submitted Pictures: A Last Look At The Sunbeamer Relaystock Camp

Kamida Delec and Cynthia Farshore sent over a couple pictures of the Sunbeamer camp at the Relaystock grounds shortly after the "Bid The Lindens Bald" event while the camp was still up before the takedown. Kamida's picture showed a view from above.

Cynthia's picture was from the side, showing the sky, and the balloon.

The 2022 RFL Sunbeamer Camp

Last month, the high point of the Relay season, the Relay Weekend, took place. Dozens of teams had various campsites there. Among them was that of Team Sunbeamers. Yours truly took a few pictures of the camp while it was up. In this article, they're up to show what the camp looked like. But this wasn't just any Relay year for yours truly, and some commentary has been added at the end.

RFL: The Sunbeamer Camp

The Hopefest has started, and the Relay sims are open to all on the Relay teams, not just those on build teams. And the Newser is now free to reveal the Sunbeamer camp at RFL Celebrate. The work was done by Cynthia Farshore, Shockwave Yareach, Snowbuns (Skylark Lefavre), and Rita Mariner.

As before, there is the Memorial Garden, located in the back. There are various personalities whom have died of cancer over the years from Humphey Bogart to Roger Moore to Don Adams, to Jim Varney. This year, noted talk show host Rush Limbaugh joins the list. And as always, there's a space for Artistic Fimicloud, a noted member of the Passionate Redheads (the precursor to the Sunbeamers).

What's different this year, "and now for something completely different," is "The Prince and The Spot Game." To play the game, get the bracelet from the giver at the front of the camp, then head to the starting point. What follows is an interactive tale of a prince whom finds a spot on his face that he hadn't noticed before. The plot has a Monty-Pythonesque tone to it. As you proceed, you make choices. Make the wrong choice however, and you won't so much as get a chance to say "not dead yet."

As of the writing of this article, Team Sunbeamers has raised over 817,000 Linden dollars. Can they hit one million (and make a certain fox live up to a commitment)?

The Sumbeamer Camp For RFL 2020

The Relay track for the Relay Weekend had many builds by both individual builders and the various teams. Among the campsites was that of the Sunbeamers. Since it's start in 2013, the team has always had a campsite, and 2020 would have it's seventh. So what was their camp like this year?

Relay Sims Open

Some good news from the Relay for Life. All of the sims on the Relay Weekend Track, not just those for the Five Days of Relay, as well as the American Cancer Society sim, are now open to visitors. There are a lot of great builds, so all are encouraged to see them while they're up. The builds will remain up for a few days next week after the weekend.

Many teams have campsites on the Relay track this year. This includes the Sunbeamers. The camp has a train station, as well as a train track that takes one to various displays of information on medical knowledge of cancer though history, an airport, a memorial garden, a prayer tower, a relaxation campsite, and more.

The relaxation campsite is a favorite part as a group of people can just sit by the campfire and chill, with or without a cold drink by the cooler. RFL Strength (138/195/23)

Remember, the Relay Weekend 24 hour event starts at 10AM SL time tomorrow. For those waning to come early, the Relay Rap is at 7AM. Word has it there will be a special guest.

The 2018 Sunbeamer Campsite

After weeks, perhaps months, to prepare, the Relay Weekend is finally here. Across the sims are the campsites of many teams, where they have various builds. Among them is that of Team Sunbeamers, the Relay team of the community where the Newser makes it's home. I had a few words with Cynthia Farshore, one of the two main builders of the camp, as she showed me around the place at the North America Hope sim.

Read about the location in Design.

The Sunbeamer Camp for 2017

The various teams of the Relay for Life in Second Life do many events. But another source of pride, and what they're often remembered for, are their exhibits, or campsites, on the track for the Relay Weekend. No matter if it was a large "umbrella team" or a small team with just a few active members, each group got the same sized plot to show what they could do. For the Sunbeamers, "the little team that could" had managed to beat the obstacles it had and came out with a first place trophy for it's build last year. So what to follow up that success with? Shockwave Yareach, the main builder for the team, had an answer in the form of an airport build that was both entertaining and educational.

RFL Steelhead Camp Sneak Peek

On the Relay for Life Weekend Track, Team Steelhead, longtime friends of the Sunbeamer team, are once again their neighbors on RFL Celebrate. We can't reveal the whole thing yet, but were given the okay to reveal one little hint.

The Relay Weekend starts at 10AM SL time on Saturday July 15.
