By joining the store group, one gets access to a number of good outfits for practically nothing. But the place offers more than bargains. Zan's at Steelhead Bay

If you're looking for some Victorian/Steampunk wear, one place you should check out is Zan's in Steelhead Bay. Owned by Zantyago Mannonen, I went to check the store out. He has many good clothes both from the Victorian era and from other times that take the fashion as a frame of reference.  I would recommend this store to anyone who is interested in Victorian wear.

I had a few words with Zantyago. "Steelhead was looking for tenants, and I was looking for a place to set up a big shop," he told me about the store. He previously had a location in the old Steelhead Estates. He couldn't remember where he started, but Zan's really took off after he released his first male suit.  Zantyago was amazed by the response and that particular suit is still a strong seller. Zantyago then shaped and combined dresses he had already created to make new stuff.  The Blazer Belle is a great example.  That one is popular.

"I began doing this more seriously because I lost my real-life job and  I had the realization that I'm not cut up for office nonsense," said Zantyago, ."I am still studying chemistry which is my career and I had some great people that helped me and encouraged me." He then brought up the group, "Iron Sharpens Iron, which is a group of skilled people."  When asked about the Iron Sharpens Iron, he said, "Surrounding yourself with skilled people and show your works, and most important, listen to what they have to say." Zantyago explained that the group mostly disbanded, but those aviation people were great help, and good crazy fun.

Zantyago makes Victorian and occasionally clothing from other eras that take the Victorian era as a frame of reference. There are outfits for both men and women, coming in both mesh and prim. He sells to both owners of furry and human avatars, and has a line of shoes made for furs. He has a cute set with color changing abilities. Zantyago went on to say that there are clothes in pastel colors coming soon. Another excellent outfit is a collaborative effort with Amy Parker Tapkoinu Resident, "Zan's Little Lady Dress."

I would recommend this store to anyone who is interested in Victorian clothes.

"The Courage Event: A Fundraiser for Alberta Canada"

Among the stories in real life news is the massive fire in the province of Alberta Canada, which has gotten so bad, the entire population of the city of Fort McMurray, about 60,000 people, was ordered evacuated, the largest ever in the province. A group in Second Life, "Models Giving Back," has decided to help. "The Courage Event" fundraiser is taking place high above the Akh sim. According to the information, the money will be going to the Canadian Red Cross. People can either buy dresses and other items, the proceeds going to charity, or donate directly to the charity. The event goes on until the end of the month.

So many people have been affected by the devastating wildfires in Alberta, Canada that continue to rage. There are those that need even just the basic necessities after loosing it all, many with no jobs to even return to after the fire is out. The Canadian Red Cross is doing all they can to help and have a plea out for donations. From May 15th – 31st – The Courage Event here in SL brings together 38 designers, and over 50 exclusive items that will not be sold again with proceeds going to the Canadian Red Cross. Come and Shop and support a VERY worthy cause.

There's a wide variety of outfits there, including this one by Bare Rose, which is non-copy transferable, and can be given as a gift. Bare Rose also has a TP to the event.

More information can be found at the event website at: https://revampedevent.wordpress.com/ , or in this article written by Inara Pey.

Fantasy Faire 2016: Bright Haven

This weekend was the start of the Fantasy Faire in Second Life. Among those checking it out was the Newser's Grey Lupindo. Deciding she had to start somewhere among the 14 sims, she chose Bright Haven. There, she found much to see and shop for, from breedable pets to dresses, and more. But there's more than just shopping here. The place is very well designed, and a pleasure to look at in its own right.

G & R Clothing and Accessory Mall

By Wesley Regenbogen

On the 10th of March,  2015, Rolandk67 Resident started construction of “G and R Clothing and Accessory Mall.”  He and GOLDI LUXORY ESTATES ( goldilocks45 ) are the co-owners of the store. G and R stands for Goldi and Roland. Roland also did the decoration of the store.

Roland and Goldi in the past had another store in Second Life. But Real Life situations made it impossible to run. So they reluctantly closed it. The idea to create the store came from both avatars like selling goods in real life. So they decided to build a new store together.

What makes this store special is that they have reasonable prices for their clothing ranging from 3 L$ to L$ 399, both men's and women's outfits. And they also offer full outfits that come with shoes and jewelry. They are planning to do avatar restyling in the future. But they are still working on it for now. They also plan to give out monthly gifts, and place Lucky Chairs in the store.

To inform their customers about their store and what is happening, they use ad boards in Second Life, as well as classifieds and they also IM their friends to check out their store. They have partnered up with some creators to have a kind of a shop-in-shop experience as well. This is a good concept, in my opinion.

On the landing point, there’s a stairway that leads to the first floor and from there are other floors as well. The owners were so kind to give me a guided tour of the store. Here’s an overview of the store, floor by floor :

On the first floor ( the ground floor  ) there’s a ladies-only store with complete sets, which include the following : shoes,  biker clothes,  jeans with jacket shirts, all for the price range between L$ 3 to L$ 99, created by Dafnis Fashions.

They also have a variety of mesh hairs in various colors ranging from L$ 199 for the single color ones and L$ 399 for the full pack with color mesh hairs.

For women that like slink shoes, they have them for the low price of L$ 199, which are created by LC Fasions Designs.

They also  have clothing from A&J mesh and non mesh complete set  with  very detailed textures  for L$ 399.

On the second floor we have a Christmas holiday section for women in Christmas complete sets from L$ 49 to L$ 99

Also have from Pari Perentis designs we have complete women's clothing from L$ 49 to L$299.

Wanting to complete your Christmas scene environment?  They have a snow complete weather system included in our holiday section which comes with a HUD as well.

"We also have have men's clothes and men's shoes for a reasonable price."

On the third floor they have men and women’s jewelry from L$99 to L$ 150.

Addiction Fashions complete set with shoes for L$ 99.

They also have Immercheon clothing for reasonable price.

"For the guys we have men's clothes complete outfits and shoes also from Kingbals Fashions for a reasonable price come and check us out. You will be glad you did !"

In October, they offered Halloween Costumes. With December not far away, they now have a selection of Christmas gowns.

Personally, I haven’t bought anything from shops in SL, but I will surely try it out maybe soon. Although, I’m not much of a shopper. If not, I will surely look around in this store.

Check out the store at this location !  :

SL Video: "The Drax Files World Makers Episode 30 - Maylee Oh "

(Click here if the video fails to play)

Published on Jun 12, 2015, "Paris, France based Maylee Oh makes a living by designing female apparel for avatars who live in the virtual world of Second Life. 'I can run my own business the way I like in terms of product and customer service!' says the 28-year old who worked for the better part of 8 years to establish her brand 'The Secret Store.' She is using a mix of creative tools such as Blender and Photoshop to arrive at a a unique and simple style that is quite popular among the millions of avatars from all around the world roaming the vast digital universe.

"And even being a freelance designer does not mean being lonely in front of a computer because Maylee's international collaborators share a virtual workspace in Second Life, they work indeed side by side and can productively socialize as if they were together in the physical realm. The concept of virtual goods and services as a means of income may still be esoteric for many says Maylee but she adds: '…when skeptical friends say it is a waste to spend money on dressing up an avatar I usually reply that they are buying my time, my idea of style that they can make their own. It is not a waste. A lot of thought and work went into this. Everyone including me wants to make their avatar look good, because clothing is personal expression! What is wrong with that?'

"Quite so!"

For more information about Maylee check out http://www.thesecretstoresl.com/

"Big thanks to Marianne McCann and all the great extra actors who participated in making this episode. Special thanks to Maylee's office colleagues - sorry to keep you from working during this production!

Goddess Apparel

By Becky Shamen

http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Taupo/113/201/42

Having just recently published an article about a new mall, owned by an old friend, I was hesitant to go on an assignment to a store that I had never shopped or even heard about. As I arrived at the landing point in front of *Goddess Apparel*, thoughts raced through my head. I am adept at finding the silver lining in every cloud. Surely, if need be, this petite journalist with stars in her eyes, could make this shop glow in the dark. As I began to explore, it did not take long to realize that I would not have to dig for gold here. I had entered a dragon's lair, surrounded by treasures in every direction I looked.

*Goddess Apparel* is owned by Athene Forder. Within, you'll find 14 departments on three floors. The departments include: Bridal, Costumes, Formal Gowns, Lingerie, Silks, Swimwear, Vintage Clothing, Club Styles, Fairy Items, Holiday Attire, Phantom of the Opera, Sportswear, Togas, and More Formal Gowns, including Mesh. And those 14 departments do not even include the wall of masks, perhaps because they are just within the front doors.  Although mostly women's wear, GA does offer a number of men's outfits, so you can accessorize your ball-and-chain, when wearing that new outfit. In the center of the store, you'll find the Goddess Lounge, used for socials and fashion shows. Posters announce an upcoming event there.

*Goddess Apparel* seems to be a store that specializes in special events and period clothing.  By special events I mean weddings, formals, holiday and theme parties, although it also has sports and some casual clothing.  You need not worry about buying an outfit from Goddess that will only be used once and then sit in your closet forever after. One thing I quickly noticed was *Goddess Apparel* styles are timeless and will stay in style for decades, even centuries. I had promised myself that I would just look and not buy this trip, especially because, last shopping article I purchased implants. However, I was wearing black for an upcoming theme, when I spotted the "Halloween Nymph Black" gown and just had to have it. It looked like it would be easy to adapt it to work with the implants and only took a short time to do so. One of many positives of purchasing from GA is the customer support that the owner/designer provides. Athene not only does custom work for a new design, but will also help work with a customer on fit or work on a custom color of an existing design.

The Nymph gown was not the only item to catch my eye. I flipped my notebook to a fresh page and started a wish list with items like Toga, Guinevere gown, Marie Antoinette gown, Initiate's tunic, and from the Phantom collection, the Think of Me gown and Masquerade gown. These all come in a variety of colors.

I was especially impressed by the quality and detail of the textures used in all the clothing at *Goddess Apparel*. As a clothing designer, good textures rate high with me.

On the second floor, there is a surprise: a door opens to a neighboring store called JB Just Because. owned by Annie Melson, one of Athene's good friends. While the *Goddess Apparel* store features clothing for special events, JB's has more for every day wear for both men and women.

As if all these quality outfits weren't enough to make you a regular shopper, both stores also have welcome gifts, Hunts, group gifts, discounts, and Midnight Madness boards. I could say way more about *Goddess Apparel*, but, as always, I like to allow you to have the fun of finding a new adventure for yourself.. Be sure to join their groups, so you can keep up with all the latest additions. I may not have heard of *Goddess Apparel* before my assignment, but I can certainly say that I will make sure I spread the word: this store is worth sharing!
