For today, Netera Landar writes about a women's wear store in Second Life: Ghee. Owned by Sophia Paez Serendipity, it's noted for clothes made by Warm Clarity. By joining the store group, one gets access to a number of good outfits for practically nothing. But the place offers more than bargains. Netera found some classic styles that stood out and looked great.

 From Sept 2008. The MiB is Anne Droid Lilly, who was a regular around Luskwood at the time. I would see her time to time, then one day she stopped coming. Sadly I recently learned why. I learned today that it's believed she passed away in 2012.

We sometimes joke that Linden Lab servers run on hamster wheels. If they did, maybe they'd use energy drinks instead.

We recently were contacted by a Wol (Wolwaner Jervil), of the SL Guided Tours Team. He send a small article of several places that were around in 2006 that are still up today. Some are fairly well known, some not so much. And a few might surprise people, who thought they closed. So what were these locations?

Philip Rosedale Wants Help Getting His Avatar Back

Practically every resident who's been in Second Life for more than several years knows about Philip Rosedale, or rather Philip Linden as he used to be known inworld. Besides as the founder of Second Life, he was known for his unique look. His old prim hair was stiff and spikey, and he always had on a "Rocky Horror" t-shirt and a multicolored codpiece over his pants.

Philip stepped down as CEO of Linden Lab in 2008, though was interim CEO from June to October 2010, and stepped down from it's board of directors in 2013, leaving to concentrate more on his new virtual world High Fidelity. But apparently, one of his recent tweets suggests he's been having more interest in Second Life lately, appearing inworld in a regular account. And he would like some help getting his old look back.


Would someone be willing to re-make me my original SL avatar? I've been spending more time in SL lately (it's just so amazing and great) and I'd like my old look back. This vintage...

Philip got a large number of responses, some offering to help, others humoring such as one person who joked "I found your undies." It's also worth noting that Linden Lab had a contest for a new look for Philip while he was interim, the winning appearance announced in October 19, 2010. But he didn't have long to enjoy it as he stepped down the very next day.

Should Philip be sticking around for a while, it should be quite interesting, even if he's no longer a Linden.

Press Release: Hot Bay City Nights Returns For 2017

Vintage automobiles featured in Second Life® event.

BAY CITY, SL (14 August 2017) - Bay City's mid-century theme -- and it's large network of roads -- is celebrated annually during its "Hot Bay City Nights" event. This Second Life® bassed event features vehicle makers who create virtual automobiles from the Bay City "theme era," from 1940 to 1965.

The event is held in the the Bay City Fairgrounds, in the North Channel region, from the 19-27th of August to present the best in vintage and retro vehicles. Each designer is hand-picked, and presents great road vehicles for use in Second Life.

Additional events will provide plenty for all to do, including the crowning of 2017s Miss Bay City on the 27th, and a series of virtual car washes in support of Child's Play Charity, an organization that provides toys and games for children in hospitals around the world. Bay City is a silver-level sponsor of Child's Play.

Bay City is a mainland community, developed by Linden Lab™ and home to the Bay City Alliance. The Bay City Alliance was founded in 2008 to promote the Bay City regions of Second Life™ and provide a venue for Bay City Residents and other interested parties to socialize and network. It is now the largest Bay city group, and home to most Residents of Bay City.

Swan Lake

Gemma Cleanslate recently saw a classic play brought to Second Life: "Swan Lake." Originally written by Peter Tchaikovsky, this inworld adaptation was brought to life by the crew of Fantasy Dreams. The show will be appearing again at the end of the month. So did Gemma think it was worth going to?

YadNi's Junkyard Closing Down

For newcomers to Second Life looking for free items, one of the top places to go to, if not *the* top place, was YadNi's Junkyard. Run by YadNi Monde, his profile states he started it about April 2004, and was the first freebie "store" in Second Life. After running for eleven years, it retained it's popularity, recommended by both websites and residents' word of mouth. Gemma Cleanslate wrote about the place in September 2012.

On June 23, YadNi announced via Google Plus that the days of his Junkyard were over. He had taken it down.

YadNi's Junkyard has closed today.

After 11 years of helping thousands (of) new residents with REAL freebies, full perms for free, and one of the longest lasting money trees, I had to close the place today.

I hope you have good memories of that place.

His post was followed by sad comments, people remembering how important the place was, and wishing him well, "The Junkyard was a vital part of many, many, people's Second Life experience. As a relative latecomer in 2007, it created a connection for me with the history and culture of SL it would have been impossible to gain otherwise." "This is sad news, one of the first places I visited and would take people to when they joined.  Thank you for giving everyone this place for so long. Your dedication is noteworthy and it will be truly missed." "Thank you YadNi Monde . Your Junkyard changed my SL experience for the better. I taught myself how to build by looking at how the freebies were put together and textured. Building is the main reason I still do this. I brought so many friends to the Junkyard over the years and we all appreciated your generosity. You are a huge part of everyone's SL."

YadNi was humbled at these comments, "Thanks a lot guys, i am touched by your words, and very sorry i had no other choice."

Heading to it's location in the Leda sim on the Second Life mainland, I found the place was already gone. Nothing was left but a depression in the rocky ground.

And so, the first and best known freebies place is fading away into the virtual nether.

In his article for today, Wesley Regenbogen decided to take a look at computer gaming. He noticed many looked back at older games of the 1990s fondly, but with the latest versions of Windows had no way to play them. So what's the solution? A program called Dosbox.
