A Very Unexpected Thanksgiving Dinner (2016)

As we get ready to sit down for Thanksgiving dinner, or perhaps lie down after chowing down, we reflect on the fun times, and perhaps the jokes about anything Thanksgiving. In 2016, Mylie Foxclaw did an amusing little tale about a Thanksgiving dinner gone wrong, one with a happy ending.

Crew Meeting

Saturday March 11 was when the crew of the Second Life Newser met for a staff meeting at our office in HV Community to discuss possible events to cover. Those attending were MajikVixen, Gemma Cleanslate, Bixyl Shuftan (myself), Deaflegacy, Mylie Foxclaw, and Grease Coakes

MajikVixen had made another Kittycats pet into an avatar. But what really got everyone's attention was when Gemma got out a large Donald Trump doll and began beating it, "I'm watching the (TV) news."

Guess the President has a way of "Trump-ing" even virtual news.

We have lots of stories planned for you, in addition for the latest news around Second Life. Stay tuned.

Mauritius in Real Life and Second Life

Yesterday March 12 marked Independence Day for Mauritius Island. American students might recall the place as being the home of the dodo bird, and tourists might have heard of the place for it's beaches. But not many in North America or Europe remember the small country in the Indian Ocean as it seldom makes headline news. As it turns out, Mylie Foxclaw is from Mauritius. Some years ago, she found a Mauritius sim that was for both those residents from the real island, and to inform others that the island is far more than just the home of an extinct bird.

Crew Meeting

Saturday February 11 was when the Newser had it's staff meeting. The meeting took place in the Newser office in HV Community. Gemma Cleanslate was busy with helping to make the One Billion Rising video, and Kain Scalia and Grease Coakes were having real-life matters to deal with. So that left Deaflegacy, Mylie Foxclaw, and myself. Also coming by was MajikVixen, whom stated she might be able to end her hiatus soon, depending on her real-life schedule.

Majik's appearance was that of a multicolored KittyKats breedable, the same kind as the Newser's mascot "Chilly." She had taken one, and made it her avatar.

We discussed a few things, such as the upcoming One Billion Rising and "Hug a Linden/Dunk a Linden," and a few ideas for articles.

Be sure to keep watching to see what the writers of the Second Life Newser report on.

Why Do Some People Just Disappear From Second Life?

As we go about our Second Lives, we gain friends. But over time, some of them drop out. Sometimes they'll tell you they're leaving. Other times, they just simply vanish, with no clue as to why. Did they have some kind of long-lasting financial or health misfortune, or worse? With partnerships, it's even worse. The person you've invested so much time and heart with has suddenly vanished, and you can't imagine anything but something going very wrong. But maybe the reason is something else entirely. Mylie Foxclaw takes a look into the issue as to why some residents just drop out of Second Life.

How Can a Hairdo Change Your Look?

Hair. In real life, we comb it, have it cut, dye it, and have it styled. Thankfully in Second Life, a new hairstyle or color is much easier as one can just get a new hairpiece. But do different hairstyles just look different, or can they do something for your overall look?
Mylie Foxclaw takes a look at the question, by comparing several different hairstyles, some that look similar but have subtle differences.

Three Different Looks For Cold Weather

Winter is coming, and shopping venues and communities alike will be giving their places a blanket of snow and sometimes falling snowflakes. So one will feel a little out of place with summer wear. On the other hand, you won't be spending all your time outdoors, and the ladies will want something a little more fashionable than a parka. Mylie Foxclaw has been on the look for some winter wear, and found a few stylish looks.

Black Friday Sales

In real life, "Black Friday," the day after Thanksgiving, has been the traditional start of the Christmas shopping season for decades. Although the term originally was used to describe the car and foot traffic to the stores, it has come to mean the common belief the day is when most stores have made enough money in the year to turn a profit. The event is commonly perceived as stores being packed with shoppers in search of bargains and "must buy" toys, sometimes shoving and even fighting one another. Beginning a couple years ago sales made during the day began to diminish due to retailers running sales earlier in the month and more shoppers spreading their time throughout December and November. But the day still is symbolic to shoppers.

Mylie Foxclaw discovered on seraphimsl.com, a website about sales and shopping in Second Life, a list of Second Life stores with "Black Friday" sales with items marked 30%, 40%, or 50 percent off. The list involves a variety of stores from bedroom, to dungeon, to weddings, to armor and swords, and more.

There is one other store holding Black Friday sales, Furry Fashion.  Until Midnight tonight SL time, there will be a 50 percent off sale in the main store, though only the main store, "Pay full price to get HALF YOUR MONEY BACK instantly. This Sale includes FF Main Store Vendors owned by Amethyst Crystal, Alexiel, Magnolia and Becky Doulton, Skyler Glasswing!"

A Very Unexpected Thanksgiving Dinner

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving in the United States, or "Turkey Day" as some amusingly call it. The holiday means different things to different people, but everyone associates the day with a big Thanksgiving dinner, with the main course being a plump cooked turkey. Mylie Foxclaw has an amusing little story, in which she describes getting set to cook the perfect Thanksgiving dinner, and nothing seems to go right.

Commentary: The Pygmalion In Us

Some residents make few changes to the look they first came into Second Life with, if they make few changes at all. More often, residents make some effort to change their appearances, some spending many hours on their avatars. Mylie Foxclaw examines this, comparing our efforts to shape our avatars to the ancient Greek tale of a sculptor out to create an image of his idea of the perfect woman. In a sense, are we also trying to create our image of the ideal?
