RFL Sunbeamers Bid Me Events: April 2026

The Relaystock is over, and the Relay's Team Sunbeamers has passed the one million Linden fundraising mark (inworld and offworld combined), But the team's far from done raising cash for the American Cancer society. Three vic-er, volunteers have put their looks on the line for charity in the latest of the team's "Bid Me" events. These fundraisers are based on the "Bid Me Bald" ones popularized by the Relay Rockers team.

Cynthia Farshore and Shockwave Yareach have an unusual pair of Bid Me events. They are each offering to be a clone of one another: Cynthia as Shockwave and vice versa. For both of them, they each have a pair of kiosks in the back of Club Cutlass, Cynthia's the left pair, Shockwave's the center pair. For every 3000 Linden dollars donated in the right kiosk, rounded down, they have to be a clone of the other for a week, Cynthia as a male wolf, Shockwave as a female goat. 5999 Lindens would mean one week, 6000 Lindens would mean two weeks. As with most other Bid Me events, there's a default kiosk for those wanting to keep them their current looks. If the left kiosk is greater than the one on the right, nothing happens.

The third Bis Me event is by Charlee Harmony.  She's offering to change from her usual red fox avatar to a black vixen. For every 2000 Lindens in the right kiosk, rounded down, she stays in her new look for a week. 3999 Lindens would mean one week, 4000 Lindens would mean two.

The kiosks are in the back of Club Cutlass, and so far a total of 18,500 L have been raised in all three. Donations are being accepted until Saturday April 25 when they will presumably be closed at the end of the party that night at 8PM SL time and the results final.

Linden Lab Announces Second Life Community Pages

In the Linden blog on Tuesday March 1, Linden Lab announced they were adding a new feature to the Second Life webside: Community Pages.

We’ve begun building in-depth community pages that will live directly on the Second Life website. Each of these pages will celebrate Residents in all different communities, and showcase the meaningful experiences that strengthen the social fabric of Second Life. This will include stories, quotes, photos, videos, and more — all directly from Second Life Residents.

The Lab is asking for input from the residents, "These pages will be extensive resources by and for each community." Residents are asked to keep an eye out for announcements on the pages, saying there will be a Google doc form to fill out. Anticipating a large volume of input, they cannot guarantee all content will be published.

One community page is already up: Black Culture in Second Life.

While it's not official yet, a reliable source informed the Newser there will be a Furry community page.

Second Life should be an inclusive haven of self-expression, and we feel it’s important to highlight every community. We look forward to sharing more community pages as we publish them.

Cartoon of the Day: Dark Roleplayer

Picture from the Happy Vixen. Yes, that's a solid black avatar. So how could someone get so dark? One could think of a few things.

Announcement: "The Guardians" SL Launch at The Peale, 3PM today

Join us as we celebrate the Peale's newest exhibition, The Guardians -- a photo documentary & storytelling project including large-scale photo portraits, and digital archives that celebrate unrecognized Black female leaders across Baltimore City neighborhoods.

This event will officially launch The Guardians exhibition in Second Life, where the Peale building has been painstakingly recreated for online visitors around the world.

We will start with a live-streamed event that explores the future of the Guardians and their tireless work. Hear about their community initiatives and how they plan to continue to make a change in Baltimore into 2022 and beyond.

This virtual exhibition accompanies the physical exhibition on display in real-life from October 30, 2021 – December 19, 2021 at The Peale at Carroll Mansion in Baltimore, MD. Photographic banners are also currently on display on the front of Baltimore’s City Hall

This project provides a platform for women who spend their lives fighting for a better, more equitable Baltimore.

Additional content, including biographies, quotes and audio stories from each of the 13 Guardians is available on the exhibition website at http://guardians.thepeale.org

ABOUT THE PEALE:

The Peale is home to the world’s largest digital collection of Baltimore stories, and is renovating the first museum building in the United States, established by artist Rembrandt Peale in 1814, to provide a showcase for the city’s storytellers that honors their importance and historical value. Our mission is to ensure the whole story of the City is told, and, by amplifying its communities’ voices, to help people everywhere see Baltimore in a new light. In the innovative spirit of the Peale family of artists and explorers, the Peale is a new kind of civic museum: both a laboratory and a teaching museum – not just a treasure house, but also a production house of culture. Happy Friday the 13th

It's Friday the 13th. So in Second Life, watch out for walking under ladders, breaking mirrors, and of course black cats crossing your path. But if you have a vermin problem at night, black cats are good luck.

Virtual Museum of Black History

February is Black History Month in the United States. So Gemma Cleanslate decided to visit the Virtual Black History Museum in Second Life. Founded by ßяια Ŏ (abriannaoceanside) and Broderick Logan in December, the museum highlights the contributions of black Americans to US history, as well as their struggles earlier in time. There is also an art gallery there, and there will be a number of live music events there this month.

Back to Normal: A Look Back At The "Bid Me Human" and "Platinum Challenge"

Do you ever feel like you're not quite yourself? For over two weeks, the Editor was in two avatars quite different from his normal look. First as part of a Relay for Life "Bid Me," he went about a ethnic human appearance. Then when his Relay team reached Platinum level fundraising, he had to make good on an "avatar challenge," going female for a week. So how did his time of going furless, then of the fairer sex turn out?
