Cartoon of The Day: Driven Shopper

Taken at the Shop and Hop. Someone was going down the sims in a pink jeep. Guess it takes a certain "drive" to shop all those sims.

Cartoon of The Day: Pumpkin Spice Season

Taken while shopping. This picture was actually used in a previous cartoon. But considering this "must have" beverage available just at this time of year, well, couldn't resist.

The Puddle Jumper Mall

While the Sunweaver Estates is primarily a residential area, there are some places to shop there. One of the larger ones is the Puddle Jumper Mall in the Sunlight Bay sim. It is owned by Cynthia Farshore.

Stepping inside, the small middle area has a couple tables one can sit and have a cold drink. The west wing is a freebie area, with many of the goods that were previously in the Arcadia Asylum Library that had closed in January.  Here, there are a number of old but useful items. This includes textures that can be used to help make items (while they can be given away, they cannot be sold).

The east wing has a number of goods up for sale.  There are a number of items of clothing such as Victorian wear from Zan's, and other eras from Ancient Times to the Colonial Era to the Wild West. There's also jewelry, swords and staves, sci-fi style armor, furniture of both fantasy and sci-fi settings, airport structures, typing animations, and more. A few items such as the Swimmer HUD are for practically nothing.

The second floor of the mall has only a few items up for sake so far, aimed at products in music such as keyboards. There will be more items in the future.

The mall is next to Farshore Field, the Sunweaver community's airport .

Fanci's Deep Mer Mall

For Second Life residents interested in the more aquitic side of virtual life, one place aimed at them is the Fanci's Deep Mer Mall.

"When we opened the sim, there were to be three parts, all mermaid based - because the sim was built in honor of Fanci," Grace (GraceSWF Wrigglesworth), the head of the Safe Waters Foundation explained, "The three areas were  Residential Area, Mer Mall and the Safe Waters Foundation headquarters - sort of a full service concept. Our residential lands are always sold out. When a parcel becomes available - it rents within days. Safe Waters Foundation manages the area for the owners, and has grown to be quite a good resource. We've expanded into what we call aquatics because divers like our areas - as well as all sorts of creatures."

While the mall is made to look like "an old ruin," the build is "modern, high tech, great for fun and exploring." There's a teleport system that can take people to other places in the vicinity such as the "the Chat Pavilion, Cuddle Area, Free Merfolk tail, (and the) entrance to the mermall and residential areas."

Of the shops in the mall, "We have two of the top Mermaid AO makers at the mall already. Kami Hitoe is there,  and Tala AO. The aquatic clocks are one of my favorite shops. Tir Na Nog is there. They have lovely mer tails."

For a limited time offer, a special pricing offer is available for anyone interesting in getting a booth: two months for the price of one. The offer is valid until May 15, 2021 or until all the booths are rented (whichever happens first).

Announcement: Furry Fashion Changing Sim Rating to Adult

To Our Valued Patrons,

We have big changes coming to Furry Fashion and we want to make sure everyone is in the loop so things go smoothly!

2018 is bringing in a new Furry Fashion, we will be converting from a mature sim to an adult sim. So what does this mean for you?

It means more merchants, new themes, and new attractions!

Of course, it also means new rules. We want to be clear that we do not plan to be a "Yiff" sim, there are enough of them as there is. We will be welcoming adult attachments with some restrictions, and we will be having (private) adult attractions.

This also means we will be disallowing child avatars and products on sim as well. But fear not! We will have a separate FF branch for our merchants and patrons that enjoy these!

Thank you for taking time to read this, we hope 2018 will be a killer year for us and we look forward to working with you!

FF Management

Editors Note: Talking to owner Amethyst Crystal, she explained that the final decision was made only after lengthy discussion with the staff, including listening to the concerns of those with reservations about changing the sim rating. Certain behaviors are still not allowed, and the security personnel will still be enforcing those rules.

Remember last week's music video from Raglan Shire? There's more Tiny music to come. On Wednesday night, the noted Grendel's Children shopping mall had some visitors, a group of Tinies, or to be more precise, Tiny carolers. Singing with chat gestures, they entertained co-owner Toady Nakamura and others there.

As they paused for a break, one of the Tinies bumped against the Christmas tree, resulting in many of it's decorations falling to the ground, some breaking, "AAAAAHHHHH!!!!!" And a number of the Tinies scattered. Fortunetly Toady wasn't upset.

Grendel's Children has been in Second Life for several years, noted for it's large selection of discount quality avatars and items.

G & R Clothing and Accessory Mall

By Wesley Regenbogen

On the 10th of March,  2015, Rolandk67 Resident started construction of “G and R Clothing and Accessory Mall.”  He and GOLDI LUXORY ESTATES ( goldilocks45 ) are the co-owners of the store. G and R stands for Goldi and Roland. Roland also did the decoration of the store.

Roland and Goldi in the past had another store in Second Life. But Real Life situations made it impossible to run. So they reluctantly closed it. The idea to create the store came from both avatars like selling goods in real life. So they decided to build a new store together.

What makes this store special is that they have reasonable prices for their clothing ranging from 3 L$ to L$ 399, both men's and women's outfits. And they also offer full outfits that come with shoes and jewelry. They are planning to do avatar restyling in the future. But they are still working on it for now. They also plan to give out monthly gifts, and place Lucky Chairs in the store.

To inform their customers about their store and what is happening, they use ad boards in Second Life, as well as classifieds and they also IM their friends to check out their store. They have partnered up with some creators to have a kind of a shop-in-shop experience as well. This is a good concept, in my opinion.

On the landing point, there’s a stairway that leads to the first floor and from there are other floors as well. The owners were so kind to give me a guided tour of the store. Here’s an overview of the store, floor by floor :

On the first floor ( the ground floor  ) there’s a ladies-only store with complete sets, which include the following : shoes,  biker clothes,  jeans with jacket shirts, all for the price range between L$ 3 to L$ 99, created by Dafnis Fashions.

They also have a variety of mesh hairs in various colors ranging from L$ 199 for the single color ones and L$ 399 for the full pack with color mesh hairs.

For women that like slink shoes, they have them for the low price of L$ 199, which are created by LC Fasions Designs.

They also  have clothing from A&J mesh and non mesh complete set  with  very detailed textures  for L$ 399.

On the second floor we have a Christmas holiday section for women in Christmas complete sets from L$ 49 to L$ 99

Also have from Pari Perentis designs we have complete women's clothing from L$ 49 to L$299.

Wanting to complete your Christmas scene environment?  They have a snow complete weather system included in our holiday section which comes with a HUD as well.

"We also have have men's clothes and men's shoes for a reasonable price."

On the third floor they have men and women’s jewelry from L$99 to L$ 150.

Addiction Fashions complete set with shoes for L$ 99.

They also have Immercheon clothing for reasonable price.

"For the guys we have men's clothes complete outfits and shoes also from Kingbals Fashions for a reasonable price come and check us out. You will be glad you did !"

In October, they offered Halloween Costumes. With December not far away, they now have a selection of Christmas gowns.

Personally, I haven’t bought anything from shops in SL, but I will surely try it out maybe soon. Although, I’m not much of a shopper. If not, I will surely look around in this store.

Check out the store at this location !  :

The Kawaii Project

BloodyKitty recently found a rather "kawaii" place to shop recently. High above the Ploom sim, she found a small outlet mall called "The Kawaii Project." With it's design and lack of lag, she found it a location worth going to

Freebie Clothing and Avatar Shopping Mall Set Up At Sunny Beach, Sunweavers Estates

Are you looking for a new set of clothes but are a little short on Lindens, or perhaps just looking for a good deal? Well, you can't get much better than free. Nydia Tungsten has set up a temporary freebie shopping mall in the western half of the Sunny Beach sim in the Sunweaver Estates. Rita Mariner told the community about the place on Friday night.

Sunnies:  If your a female and would like a whole lot of free clothes, courtesy of Nydia Tungsten, get your booty over to Sunny Beach and grab them from the Freebie Mall, while it it up.  Lots of really cool stuff to be had.  It will take some time to grab it all, there is a lot of stuff.

"Also male clothes and avatars," Nydia corrected. There are hundreds of free items here. The clothing ranges from swimwear to formal outfits to a kind of womens' dress resembling countries' national flags. There are also a number of old but still useful avatars up for free, such as a "Stay Puft Marshmallow Man" from "Ghostbusters," standing about twenty feet high. There's also a selection of classic "Wingless" avatars from anthro fox to equine to hyena up, completely free.

The mall will be up for several days, Nydia saying it should be coming down Friday September 19th.

The SURL http://slurl.com/secondlife/Sunny%20Beach/80/120/24 will take you to the place, but all one has to do is bring up Sunny Beach on the map and teleport somewhere on to the western half, "this easily covers a quarter sim you can't miss it."

Rocket City Mall to Close

Rocket City is a furry community in Second Life noted for two things. One is it's connection to the Rocket City Furmeet, a Fantasy con that meets every year in Alabama every Memorial Day Weekend. When I first came to the place in 2007, the place had a recreation of the hotel the conventioneers met at. But it was removed in 2009, and the land became much more forest and ground. The second thing is it's avatar mall (or dealer's den as they're sometimes called) named the Vendor Jungle. It is owned by Koterie Itoku, and is located on a large skybox. Before 2009, the shopping mall was accessible from the Rocket City motel lobby, and resembled a higher floor. It currently looks much like the title suggests, in the middle of a jungle. It offers a wide selection of avatars from a number of companies, in addition to accessories, and all products have to conform to the PG rating standards of the community.

However, the mall will not be around for much longer. There was an announcement that at the end of March, the mall and it's vendors will be taken down.

Hi everyone. The time has come to make a difficult decision that we've seen coming, but have been putting off for a few years now. Our Vendor Jungle will be closing at the end of March, 2014. Please, please, please do not get upset at Koterie. She has worked many long and hard hours for years to keep the Vendor Jungle going. The Vendor Jungle would have been closed several years ago if it wasn't for her efforts, and I owe her a lot of gratitude for all the hard work she put into it.

To answer the question you are most likely thinking right now, Rocket City itself (the region) is not going anywhere for now. There was a brief period of time around 2007 when the Vendor Jungle did fund 100% of the costs of our sim, but it didn't last long. The percentage of what its funded has decreased by a huge amount over the years. I'm not sure what the percentage it's at today, because, to be honest, I haven't looked in a few months. I just didn't want to know. (In essence, we have been paying almost the entire cost of the sim out of our pockets for a while anyhow.)

While there is another furry avatar shopping mall, Northstar, it has a number of adult-oriented products that may intimidate some shoppers. Whether another PG rated avatar mall will come to take Rocket City's place remains to be seen.

Chest Treasures

Becky "Sha" Shamen's latest article features a new shopping mall, Chest Treasures. The place specializes in goods aimed at the well-endowed lady, but you don't need to look like Dolly Parton to shop here. And besides the shopping, one can stop by the number of lucky chairs.

The First Sims: Federal

DrFran Babcock continues her series on the first sims in Second Life. For today's story, she looks at Federal. Very early on, it had been a combat sim, then hosted some gardens before they got their own sim. So what's the place like now and what's worth visiting? DrFran explored to find out.
