RFL Press Release: Bid The Lindens Bald

 BID THE LINDENS BALD 2026

Bid the Lindens & Moles Bald returns for its 10th annual showdown in support of Relay For Life in Second Life — and this year will be the grand finale.

In this fan-favorite fundraising event, teams of Lindens and Moles literally put their hair on the line. Residents vote with their donations: the teams that raise the most keep their locks, while the team that raises the least will go bald until the next birthday celebrations.

Voting opens during RelayStock on April 10 and runs through April 15, culminating in the always-entertaining Haircut Party from 12:00–2:30 PM SLT, with the clippers coming out at 2:15 PM SLT. Team lists will be announced in April, so start planning your strategy and your donations.

As the Relay Rockers prepare to retire this beloved tradition, this will be the last time Linden hair hits the floor — so don’t miss your chance to be part of the laughter, the spectacle, and the fundraising magic for American Cancer Society.

Mark your calendars and come help

Cartoon of The Day: Haircut Time?

Taken at Club Furbidden. During DJ Tantari's set, I noticed this guy in the audience. Those who know me can easily guess some a few songs I was thinking of.

Bid The Lindens Bald Results

On Wednesday April 9, the "Bid the Lindens Bald" event took place. Organized by the Relay Rockers, it would take place just a few days after the multi-team Relaystock. Arizona Ballinger-Whiplash would have this to say about both events.

RelayStock 2025 was an unforgettable celebration of community, hope, and togetherness. With 45 Relay teams—our second-highest turnout ever—and 22 teams filling the stage with music, the energy was incredible. This beloved halfway point in the Relay For Life of Second Life season is more than just an event; it’s where friendships deepen, memories are made, and we’re reminded why we Relay. From dancing 'in the mud' to welcoming the traditional final-day rain, the spirit was alive in every moment. In just 2.5 days, our amazing teams raised L$2,103,576 ($8,414 USD) for the American Cancer Society—a record-breaking total that shows the heart of this community.

"Just days after RelayStock, 'Bid The Lindens & Moles Bald' returned for its 9th year of brave, heartfelt fun in support of the American Cancer Society. Four teams of 22 Lindens and Moles rallied donations during a spirited two-hour party, all putting their hair on the line in the fight against cancer. In a nail-biting finish, Team 3 saved their locks by just L$75—proving that every linden truly counts when we come together to fight cancer."

Yours truly wasn't able to get to the event on time. But the totals on the kiosks were still there:

Team 1 43,225
Team 2 39,675
Team 3 - 39,500
Team 4 - 49,604 (Patch)

From Selene Jashan

So Team Four, consisting of Spiffy, Dion, and Abnor Mole and Jade, Hobbes, and Patch LInden, got the most donations. Team Three, Brigantia, Mini, and Chronos Mole and Keria and Derrick Linden were the ones whose hair ended up cut and shaved on the barber chairs. Derrick had been sporting a huge wig. Fuzzball Ortega was there and talked later that he thought of donning "The Hair," but decided against it as he didn't want to take away from Derrick's moment to shine.

Between the Relaystock and "Bid The Lindens Bald," the Relay Rockers' total raised for this season has gone up to 528,428 Linden dollars, or $2,113.71, making them 11th place of 179 teams.

Be sure to keep an eye out for other Relay events this month, such as Bellisseria for Life, and the popular Fantasy Faire.

Go Relay!

The Relay Rocker's Annual Bid Me Bald Team Challenge

The Relay Rockers team in the Relay for Life in Second Life is known for a number of things. Among them is their "Bid Me Bald" events.  On Sunday April 14, their Annual Bid Me Bald Challenge, an event they did with eleven other teams, with someone from the winning team giving a haircut to someone from the team that raised the least. So in an event in which even the "loosing" team raised thousands, how much was raised and who gave a haircut to who?

Supporters will be asked to donate to special Relay Kiosks dedicated to each team and located at the RelayStock2021 region adjacent to the American Cancer Society virtual office in Second Life. At 2pm on Wednesday May 19th the kiosks will be totaled and the official Haircutting will take place.

The original Bid Me Bald event was created by the Relay Rockers in 2007 as both a fundraiser and a show of solidarity with cancer survivors. Bid Me Bald recognizes with respect and support that chemotherapy and other lifesaving treatments can lead to side effects, notably hair loss.  Bid Me Bald participants choose to ‘shave’ their heads as an act of support and fellowship with our honored heroes.

Reader Submitted: Nuala's "Bid Me Bald"

Wednesday March 22 was the date of another "Bid Me Bald" Event at at Arinultra Cay. This time it was Nulala Maracas' turn to sit on the barber chair. Some comments were captured over Relay chat, one saying of Daylan the barber, "he's enjoying it a wee bit too much if you ask me." Others remarked, "I think Nuala's hair is all over the beach now." "So shinny."

Oldesoul Eldermar, who provided me the picture, told me she had been bid bald for 17 days.

The "Harecut" at Club Cutlass

Last Wednesday June 1, it was the last day for people to bid on the three "Bid Me" events for the Relay for Life team representing the Sunweaver community: Team Sunbeamers. Rita Mariner's "Bid Me Pink" generated the most interest with over 27,000 Lindens raised, but more had been donated to the "stay white bunny" side, so she got to remain the same. So the spotlight then switched to Becky Shamen, whose "Bid Me Bald" had raised over 15,000 Lindens, with most of the money going to the "Bald" kiosk. So Rita rezzed a barber chair, and got a pair of scissors provided by Trader Whiplash. Becky appeared a little less than thrilled about the idea, judging by this screenshot.

And so Rita began snipping away. One of the 'weavers kept joking, "Queen of Hearts: 'That's enough! Off with their heads! .. I mean hair.'" "Oh what a nice necklace you have there.. wait.. are those.. Earlobes?" "Rita .. Rita that is called Epidermis .. you can stop snipping." Finally, Rita was done snipping the head hair, "Done. Ok, you're BALD for 4 weeks." "Now she needs a nice massage for the head with some oils.. also against the itch of growing back." Becky managed a chuckle, "regardless of which av I wear, for the next 4 weeks, it will be bald." Rita mused, "She could wear a bowler, from a 007 movie, and be Oddjob."

To keep those who had chipped into the "Bid Rita Pink" vendor, Rita posed for the camera in her pink bunny avatar briefly, "We are doing good, but if they had taken the bait and out bid me to turn me PINK, we would be that much closer to GOLD. Of course I would be PINK for 6 weeks, and have to burn those avatars and clothes after I was done. *laughs*" It was pointed out that the team was already past the 2/3 mark to Gold Rank.

Becky Shamen would also do a video of the event: Click here.

Of Rose Evans' "Bid Me Human," which raised over 10,000 Lindens, she had this to say, "Since I lost the Bid Me and I'm going to be a human for the month of June, I am presently working on a more generic human av based on my neko avs to use for the extended period."

As of the writing of this article, the Sunbeamers have raised 209,800 Linden dollars this year for the Relay for Life. They're not done yet as they have other events as the season goes on, the next one being their annual air show in Pacific Waters, planned for Saturday June 11.

Scenes From The Relay

The past week has been the scene of many Relay events. Not all of which yours truly could be at, but there were some, such as last Saturday's "Nevar Lobo's Birthday" party.

It is that time of year that we come together to celebrate my birthday by having a huge Relay For Life Party!  Each year, I use this time to dedicate my year and passion for celebrating more birthdays without cancer.  So This year ... A Team Strange Journey Event is starting at 2pm !!!! 2 PM - Lark Bowen will be taking the stage Live! 3pm - DJ Amethyst will take over and spin some of  my favorite tunes and yours!!!! Come join us !!!

Among those there was a girl in a Twi'lek avatar. But instead of "Star Wars" jokes were jokes about his age, "I need to dust off the walker!" "Don't forget the adult diapers" "You will be seated in the geriatric strap in chair and fed puree'd food and prune juice." "... not sure on the expiry date on the bengay" Nevar looked over to me, "SEE what I have to put up with Bixyl?"

One event that got some talk for some days before it happened was PrettyKitty Gumbo's "Bid Me Bald" event.

Oh the travesty of it!! Oh no... Relay Rockers want me to go bald!!  They are putting the kiosk out tomorrow.. I beg of you do NOT bid me bald. I like my hair!!   Oh why did I agree to do it.. I like my hair.  I repeat do NOT big me bald..  more on this tomorrow. ..sniff sniff. Please I beg of you do not bid me bald. Those Rockers have a kiosk up and they will cut my hair next week.. Oh I love my pretty hair... So please do not bid me bald!

And at 4PM on Wednesday April 27, PrettyKitty Gumbo was with Trader Whiplash and others at the beach on the Arinultra Cay sim. Trader was playing the "Hair" song, which is associated with "Fuzzball" Ortega. Someone thought "When You Get a Haircut" by Ray Stevens would be better.

Ertina Loopen, whom was bald herself, handled the scissors for the event, "... mmmmm maybe a little off the top, then the side? ... Trader said I have to start at the bottom. ... snip snip - Ooops that was close to the ear, but I missed. ... here's a towel to catch the bl... hair."

And eventually the deed was done, Ertina saying she needed to apply a little "Turtle Wax" at the end, "Man that sun does reflect off your head so nice." People were complementing her, "You look beautiful, Kitty!" "Thank you Kitty! Looking good." "Woot way to go Kitty!" PrettyKitty was saying it wasn't so bad in the end, "Thank you everyone! I think." She would later say, "I had people think I was really dreading it. ... They were sweet."

Keep on the lookout for more events by the teams of the Relay for Life in Second Life

Press Release: Sixth Annual Relay Rockers "Bid Me Bald"

Its Back Again - For the SIXTH Year!

Bid Me Bald - The Relay Rockers Signature Fundraising event in support of the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life of Second Life, returns for a 6th year!   The event which pairs Relay Volunteers with a Barber Chair and a Pair of Scissors has been a mainstay event for the Rockers since 2007 and has been used by other teams across Relay For Life of Second Life.

In 2007 when Relay Rocker's co-founder Trader Whiplash was undergoing Chemotherapy for leukemia the Rockers offered to shave their heads in SL in support of him.  Instead the team decided to make it a fundraiser and to support and honor EVERY survivor who has borne the side effects of cancer treatments.  Volunteers make an appointment with the Rockers Barbershop and place a special kiosk out.  For each L$5000 raises they agree to go bald for 1 full day. Totals are rounded up and the average donation is about L$25,000.

As always the first haircut of the season goes to Trader and he will be placing his kiosk out at Arinulta Beach this wednesday, March 20 and has an appointment for March 27th!
