SL Video: "Second Life Destinations - Medieval Roleplaying"

Xiola Linden's post for Second Life Destinations on July 3 was of "Medieval Roleplaying," the video filmed in the area of Mystvale.

Have you ever thought about writing your own Medieval novel? What if you could live through your very own battle of the throne without any of the very bloody and finite endings you’ve seen on television? Hold court, joust, ride forth into battle on the back of your trusted steed, or simply embrace the photogenic romance of living in an era long passed - it’s all possible in SL.

That’s where communities like MYSTVALE and other role-playing communities within Second Life come in. Tailored to immerse you in an experience that blends history and fantasy together, and allows you to begin making your own history through creative story-telling. Talk about choosing your own adventure!
Put on your favorite medieval outfit, grab your preferred party of adventurers, and cross the virtual veil into MYSTVALE.

Eve Online: The (Goonswarm) Empire To Strike Back

It's been a while since the Newser last reported on the game "Eve Online," in which a massive space battle took place, costing those involved $300,000 USD. Since then, there hasn't been a single bloodbath of time and money on that scale. But there has been plenty of action. The big fight which has been going on for over a year has been called "World War Bee" by it's players, which has played out much like a science fiction story as after suffering losses, a coalition calling itself "The Imperium" is preparing for revenge.

Game Review: War Thunder

When it comes to multiplayer WW2 combat vehicle games, most will probably think of "World of Tanks" or "World of Warships." But there are others out there. One that's gotten some attention is "War Thunder." Starting off as an air combat game, it's been expanded over time to cover ground, and more recently sea battles. But even if one sticks to the tanks, there are a number of differences from it's more famous counterpart.

Looking Back: Aria Clash

Second Life isn't really a game, though residents often call it one for the sake of simplicity. But we can play games on it, some of which have rivaled the MMOs we put down money for.

It was five years ago in which the Newser reported on Aria Clash, an anime-inspired combat game, what one described as a “feudal Japan/sci-fi crossover” fought either with melee or ranged weapons. In my personal opinion, this was one of the best combat games in Second Life developed before, or since. Sadly, Aria Clash did not last, shutting down a little more than two years later. Developer Kamiko Fazuku stated she had to close down the gaming area and further development of the game due to real-life complications, and credited the loyalty and faithfulness of her team for the reason it had lasted so long, saying she had heard of many others fall apart due to internal drama.

Yours truly would return to Aria Clash several times since the article, having fun with development team memeber, Aasha “Geecku” Kohime, or my friend Daniella Looming in the picture above. This included at least one "boss fight" which was just as big a pain as an MMO boss fight ro win.

While yours truly has come across some games since, there's been nothing quite like Aria Clash. What games have you the readers been playing?

Wonder Egg Hunt

Gemma Cleansalte recently attended a Relay for Life event by the Fighting Sunflowers team. Taking place in an "Alice in Wonderland" themed area, kid and grown avatars alike took part in a hunt for Easter Eggs. And unlike the story, the Red Queen didn't go after anyone's head.

JasX Games

Some readers might have heard of BARE, the cheeky card-based fight game in which the loser ends up without their clothes. It's one of several games by JasX Games, by Jasdac Stockholm. Locke had a few words with the man behind the games. In the first part of the interview, Jasdac describes his start into gamemaking with "Fable of the Unknown."

SL Video: "Wunnerful Christmas with Otters"

(Click here if the video fails to play)

Remember the fish-slapping otters by Abanimations filmed earlier this month? Well, theyrrre baaaack! Bay Sweetwater did an "otterly" fun Christmas video with them. It starts off cutsie, and then goes back into more slap-happy fun, that not even Spider-Man's nemesis the "Green Goblin" can escape.

"Here's what happens when a Second Life creator gives away an otter avatar for Christmas. So when your relatives bug you over the holidays about what you do in Second Life, you just shrug and say, 'Oh, I dunno. Stuff like this.'"

Warrior Instinct Nations, formerly known as Averlast, was opened in July 2007, by Karine Koba.
