Plane Wreck in Bellisseria

Picture from Larree Quixote. Not long after the "Chicken incident," Larree announced in Bellisseria chat, "Uh oh. There has been a terrible accident!" Then he posted this picture, that of a still-smoking plane that had smashed into a house-turned-club. There were soon other comments, "I didn't do it." "Not me either *sips her coffee casually*" "Just get out of the Larree! Ya saw nothing!!" "Looks like my flying, but it wasn't me, today." "Flying into a house like yours. Just not today!" "Think of it as.. an attic conversion (grin)." "I mean ... ya drive a plane into a house and it's for sure going to be an open floor plan hey? (grin)" "Belli Homes .. now featuring unique skylights!" "I take requests if anyone wants that new skylight, but best warn your neighbours in case I get the wrong street."

I never did get the location of the "Launch Pad" pilot.

Cartoon of the Day

Taken at the Happy Vixen. While some planes such as ultralights work just fine with the same gas that goes in a car, others require fuel with higher octane and special additives.

SL Enquirer: "Get The Freight Out"

There's a new game in Second Life that people on the Newser team have seen people play: "GTFO" or "Get The Freight Out." In this game, the player takes a truck, plane, or boat (limited to certain brands) and transports goods. Seersha Heart of the SL Enquirer wrote an article about the game, and why she finds it interesting.

Game Review: War Thunder

When it comes to multiplayer WW2 combat vehicle games, most will probably think of "World of Tanks" or "World of Warships." But there are others out there. One that's gotten some attention is "War Thunder." Starting off as an air combat game, it's been expanded over time to cover ground, and more recently sea battles. But even if one sticks to the tanks, there are a number of differences from it's more famous counterpart.

Phoenix Squadron

Among the first things a newcomer resident to Second Life learns is pressing the "Fly" button to get around faster. But what about truly flying like one can in real life? The Newser had a chance to meet one group of Second Life pilots: Phoenix Squadron. The group performs for charities, air shows with friends, or just simply flies for fun.

New Bastogne: WW2 in Second Life

It's been about a couple years since Bixyl Shuftan wrote on the WW2 Combat Roleplay. Two years later, the sims have gone through triumphs and troubles, but are still around. Recently, Grease Coakes took a look at the place to give his own observations.

JessicaBelle Aeronautic Projects Junkers Ju 87 G2 "Kanonenvogel" Stuka

JessicaBelle Aeronautic Projects, noted for it's FW-190 fighter-bomber, recently completed testing of another combat aircraft, and began offering it for sale: the Junkers Ju 87 "Stuka" dive bomber.

There are other Stukas out in the market, the plane being well known and a symbol of the German Blitzkrieg in World War Two. So JessicaBelle worked to make her version special: a Junkers Ju 87 G2 "Kanonenvogel."

Her plane at times when making a dive will make the "screams" Stukas were noted for when attacking, JessicaBelle saying the Germans attatched "Jerico Trumphets" to the planes to increase the effect. Plus in addition to bombs, the plane is equipped with anti-tank cannons, making it a true "can opener" against opposing armor in combat sims, such as the New Bastogne region. Should the bomb fall in the water, it makes a tremendous splash up in the air. The plane is equipped to fight in sims that use the VICE system of combat.

Vickster Kuhn, the leader of Jagdgeschwader 52, had this to say in a group announcement.

Our own Major Jessicabelle Dayafter has created a marvelous model of the Stuka. Using her knowledge of our tactics she has put together a very formidable weapon in the "Kanonenvogel!" With highly accurate bombs, this will bring your dive bombing to the next level. The Kanonenvogel is alternately equipped with a cannon that will make enemy tankers knees shake with fear! You can get this plane for a great price, only 1K Linden, at my flight shop in Huertgenwald. Happy bombing!

JessicaBelle worked long and hard to perfect the plane, and having gotten a look from the back seat, it is fun to fly. Besides combat sims, it's also good for casual flying (and certainly an attention-getter with it's unmistakable design). The plane seems to have less problems with sim crossings than most.

A "blast" to fly, pardon the pun.

The Prize Plane

JessicaBelle Dayafter is noted for two things in Second Life. One is being a top pilot in the New Bastogne WW2 combat RP. The second is for being a designer of planes designed for use in this and similar combat RP areas, as well as fun for casual flight. Her German FW190 is her best known plane, but also developed a rendition of the US Navy Grumman Hellcat.

During the planning of the Second Life Newser party JessicaBelle Dayafter agreed to put up one of her JessicaBelle Aeronautic Productions planes as the big prize. The choice of planes was awarded during the second party to Kikas Babenco. We told her to contact Jessica for the plane, as well as sending Jessica a message.

Later on, I had a few words with Jessica. She gave me a few screenshots, “ I took the pics near the Flying Tigers sim, ‘cause the sim owner has my planes on display. She loved them so much.” She told me she had gotten in contact with Kikas and they met up. Kikias was given the choice between the FW190 and the Hellcat, and chose the FW190. There was one small complication, “It was her first time flying in Second Life. So I was trying to teach her.”

The results of Kikas’ training were, interesting, “The FW-190 is real fast. I told her many times this, and not to go above 40% throttle.” Trying it out in the Flying Tigers area, the plane flipped over, and she accidentally pressed the throttle, and the plane “was dragging us along the dirt.” So she had her guest-pilot a slower Stuka. It worked better, “had a leisurely ride around the combat sim, explained in great detail, and was about to have her try again but she had to log.”

The two met up later in the day and training resumed, but they soon found they weren’t alone. One of the opposing team’s pilots had spotter her, “He must really not like me. I was showing her how to fly in the Stuka, we're still almost 2 thousand meters up, and he comes gunning at us. Hee-hee.” And without VICE turned on, the fighter inflicted no damage for all his efforts.

It was an eventful day for Jessica.

New Allied Base Sim in WW2 RP Area

For the players on the Allied teams, the layout of the sims gave them just one small area at the bottom of the southernmost sim. This came to an end last week on Dec 9 when the new "Allied Base" sim was declared open in a ceremony and party, with a truce declared and all teams invited.

A new maker of Second Life aircraft, JessicaBelle Aeronautic Projects, recently began marketing its first plane, the Focke-Wulf Fw 190 fighter. Easy to fly and versatile, the airplane is very good for both dogfighting and casual flying.
