Interview with Tealcie Annibles (Tealcie Resident) of SL Regional Search and Rescue.

Recently, yours truly interviewed Tealcie Annibles (Tealcie Resident). Tealcie is the founder and leader of the SL Regional Search and Rescue group, which roleplays first responders at the scene of various disasters. I talked to her about how she got started in Second Life, and just what goes into planning and setting up these exercises.

Second Life Regional Search And Rescue

Suppose there was a great emergency, would you know what to do? Not a little emergency like your engine not starting, but a big emergency like a train wreck or a major fire on a ship? The Second Life Regional Search and Rescue does frequent first responder roleplay exercises. Gemma Cleanslate was recently able to witness one such exercise.

Discussing September 11 at Virtual Ability

September 11 had many stories. But what about those of those whom were disabled whom were caught up in it. On the fifteenth anniversary of the attack, there was a discussion at Virtual Ability. Shyla (KriJon Resident) might have shown up in a comical-looking gecko avatar, but her message was a serious one. Many times someone whom was disabled was referred to as "the man in the wheelchair" or some other phrase that left out the identity. But there was something else she found more troubling. The evacuation plans of many places fail to take into account the disabled. Deaflegacy was there, and reported about the discussion.

Second Life 11th Birthday Preparations

The SL11B is fast approaching though it seems far away yet. 

The roads are down on all the sims. Stages are in progress. The auditorium is awaiting programs. The builders are waiting to enter. Yesterday I went to my training session for Exhibitor Assistant. Diana Renoir gave the training again this year. This will be my third year as an EA as we are called. Our job is to help the builders get settled on their plots and have the “tools” they need to do their work in the sims. We give them a slice of cake which contains all their information to make life easier for the next few weeks before the opening of the sims to the public. 

The builders are most grateful to the EA’s throughout the next weeks because we can set their streams on the plots, put a landing point for them and a texture of identification of their plot. I took some pictures at the training session so you could see some of the people you may meet on the sims . I enjoy being in the sims during the building to witness the growth of the installations . 

One thing I know, although I will spend time there in the next month before and during the event I will never get to see everything there is to see. The past two years have proven that to me. It is impossible!! There will be so much to explore on all those 11  sims. So I am warning you now to save more than one day to come during the public weeks. You really don’t want to miss all the sights, and freebies, and parties do you?

Attack on Titan at Grenadine

Remember the "Attack on Titan" sim and game that made news last year? Theonlyjohnny Resident found a second one which one can just roleplay one, or they can do some combat gaming. But one just doesn't jump into the gaming, but first has to be approved and then has to go through a nine phase training course. So what did Theonlyjohnny think of the place and game? He tried them out and offers his review.

SL10Birthday Preparations Under Way

 

Today I got my first peek at the empty SL10Birthday community celebration  sims. I went over to attend a training session for Exhibitor Assistant. Diana Renoir and Doc Gascoigne presented the session and reminded us of our duties. This is a job I did last year at the SL9B and loved it. When the builders arrive on the sim at their plot, before they can build, the EA’s need to give them their tools and help them get settled with all their building rights: music, media. name of the plot, landing points, and what ever else they require.

It is a very exciting and busy time. Then we get to watch the empty sims fill up with marvelous creative exhibits. And so, at this time  the notifications to the builders (and other volunteer applicants) are going out. There are so many it will take some days for all notices to arrive so watch your e-mail if you are waiting.  The sims will open to builders on this Sunday, May 26. The sim coordinators and Exhibitor Assistants will be waiting for them. Let the party preparation begin!! 

 

I will keep you updated on the progress. Remember it opens on June 16 and will be open until June 29, with stage performances ending June 23. I promise you, no matter how many times you visit you will never see everything there is to see! Though I will start work this Sunday I know from last years I will never see it all! The Prize Plane

JessicaBelle Dayafter is noted for two things in Second Life. One is being a top pilot in the New Bastogne WW2 combat RP. The second is for being a designer of planes designed for use in this and similar combat RP areas, as well as fun for casual flight. Her German FW190 is her best known plane, but also developed a rendition of the US Navy Grumman Hellcat.

During the planning of the Second Life Newser party JessicaBelle Dayafter agreed to put up one of her JessicaBelle Aeronautic Productions planes as the big prize. The choice of planes was awarded during the second party to Kikas Babenco. We told her to contact Jessica for the plane, as well as sending Jessica a message.

Later on, I had a few words with Jessica. She gave me a few screenshots, “ I took the pics near the Flying Tigers sim, ‘cause the sim owner has my planes on display. She loved them so much.” She told me she had gotten in contact with Kikas and they met up. Kikias was given the choice between the FW190 and the Hellcat, and chose the FW190. There was one small complication, “It was her first time flying in Second Life. So I was trying to teach her.”

The results of Kikas’ training were, interesting, “The FW-190 is real fast. I told her many times this, and not to go above 40% throttle.” Trying it out in the Flying Tigers area, the plane flipped over, and she accidentally pressed the throttle, and the plane “was dragging us along the dirt.” So she had her guest-pilot a slower Stuka. It worked better, “had a leisurely ride around the combat sim,explained in great detail,and was about to have her try again but she had to log.”

The two met up later in the day and training resumed, but they soon found they weren’t alone. One of the opposing team’s pilots had spotter her, “He must really not like me. I was showing her how to fly in the Stuka, we're still almost 2 thousand meters up, and he comes gunning at us. Hee-hee.” And without VICE turned on, the fighter inflicted no damage for all his efforts.

It was an eventful day for Jessica.
