Plane Wreck in Bellisseria

Picture from Larree Quixote. Not long after the "Chicken incident," Larree announced in Bellisseria chat, "Uh oh. There has been a terrible accident!" Then he posted this picture, that of a still-smoking plane that had smashed into a house-turned-club. There were soon other comments, "I didn't do it." "Not me either *sips her coffee casually*" "Just get out of the Larree! Ya saw nothing!!" "Looks like my flying, but it wasn't me, today." "Flying into a house like yours. Just not today!" "Think of it as.. an attic conversion (grin)." "I mean ... ya drive a plane into a house and it's for sure going to be an open floor plan hey? (grin)" "Belli Homes .. now featuring unique skylights!" "I take requests if anyone wants that new skylight, but best warn your neighbours in case I get the wrong street."

I never did get the location of the "Launch Pad" pilot.

The Sunbeamer Air Show

About a week and a half ago, Team Sunbeamers of the Relay for Life held it's sixth annual air show at Farshore Field. Organized by Cynthia Farshore, the event had a number of activities and attractions. The Newser was there, and took a number of pictures.

See the pictures in Events.

New Linden Homes Continent Update

For those wanting to scout the new continent

Besides landing planes there, one can also rezz them. But the spot can be identified only by the lack of the "no-rezz" symbol on one's viewer. It's at Coral Waters (109/139/22)

For those whom have been trying to get one of the new Linden Homes, a forum post by Patch Linden stated they were all gone within 48 hours. The good news, he promises additional homes "in the very near future." Presumably, this means the rest of the continent, or at least more of it, will soon be moved into positioned, and the homes placed on it.

Press Release: 2019 RFL Team Sunbeamer Air Show

Your welcome to the 6th annual 2019 Sunbeamers RFL Air Show and Fly In on Saturday April 13th from 8 AM to 4 PM SLT.

Included in the event is an Airship Steeple Chase. For a donation of 100L, or what you feel like giving, you enter and are given for free a bicycle blimp you pedal through a series of jumps above the ground. The fastest time at the end of the day wins 500L and a cheap trophy. We will be providing a pedal power balloon for the contest so all are equal. For those who wish to pilot their own airship may do so but will not be in the contest, it will be just for the fun of it.

There are more events for any donations around the field. One such is dunking your partner or other victim in a nice cool dunk tank, that is instead of a beanbag you fire a German 88mm shell into its target!!, Then there is being shot out of a cannon straight up to the moon where a provided special RFL 2019 textured parachute for free gently brings you back down.

In addition to the cannon bring your new tested parachute along to a parachute jump from an airplane from 2000 meters at scheduled times.

There will be planes on display with information about them. Some Pilots will be on hand to give rides and flight demonstrations or you can just BYOAP [Bring Your Own Airplane] and stunt around yourself.

Cartoon of the Day

Taken at the Happy Vixen. While some planes such as ultralights work just fine with the same gas that goes in a car, others require fuel with higher octane and special additives.

Scenes From The Sunbeamer Air Show

One of the first things most new residents learn in Second Life learn is how to fly. But not everybody wants to "Superman" around. And there are those with a love of airplanes. So for those wanting to fly around in style, the annual air show at Farshore Field allowed for some aerial antics, as well as other activities. As the show is held in support of the Relay for Life's Sunbeamer team, it's considered a key event that brings in a great deal of donations. And once again, this year the show put the Sunbeamers into a record level of fundraising.

Phoenix Squadron

Among the first things a newcomer resident to Second Life learns is pressing the "Fly" button to get around faster. But what about truly flying like one can in real life? The Newser had a chance to meet one group of Second Life pilots: Phoenix Squadron. The group performs for charities, air shows with friends, or just simply flies for fun.

Scenes From the Sunbeamer Air Show

While the Relay for Life's Sunbeamer team has a number of events each year, their big one is the annual air show at Farshore Field in Pacific Waters. The event had plenty from period music, to dogfights, to balloon rides, and lots and lots of planes.

Cartoon of the Day

Taken at a combat sim (not New Bastogne). Nydia Tungsten was doing a video shoot at the 1940's Europe style streets when a couple wise guys started taking pok shots at us with their bomber. Unfortunetly for them, they got a little close to the ground, and ended up stalling and making a hard landing right onto the streets. As you can see, taking off again from the position was impossible, so they just left the plane.

Second Life Airlines

With the ability to teleport around, the idea of a "Second Life Airlines" may sound archaic. But for some  flying fans, it's no joke. Theonlyjohnny Resident came across a number of airplane groups known collectively as "Second Life Airlines" or the SLA. He took a closer look to see just what's involved with joining one as a pilot.

Reader Submitted: D-Day Reenactment Blake Sea Flyover

On Saturday June 7, a D-Day reenactment took place in Second Life. Among the parts of the event was a number of C-47s flying over to drop zones in the action area.

Jessicabelle Dayafter was among those taking part, and took a few pictures.

Those planes that weren't damaged and making crash landings, after dropping their paratroopers, flew to Foliage.

Eye on the Blog: Linden Lab Offers New Gift Biplane for Premium Accounts

Last week, Linden Lab offered a new freebie for Second Life's Premium account residents. One that the aireal-minded might be interested in: a biplane. In addition, the Lab was opening an airfield sim exclusive for Premium residents.

A new Premium gift is now available! Go Premium today and take flight in your Premium-only airplane for some high flying fun. Zoom around and perform high-speed aerial stunts and acrobatics such as loops, barrel rolls, hard dives and climbs.
Take off in Orville, a Premium-only airfield where you can fuel up your airplane, spend some hangar time with your other flying friends, socialize in the airfield building lobby or watch over the skies from the control tower!

While this plane may be a single-seat aircraft that doesn't mean you can't bring some friends along -- you just might want to tell them to hold on!

The airplane is available to Premium Residents only. To access the exclusive Orville Airport, you must be a Premium member, so don’t delay! Additional Premium benefits include a private home, Linden dollars, as well as expanded support. Take flight and take advantage this limited-time half-off promotion today.* Already Premium? Get it here.

Linden Lab also urged residents to "For a limited time, take advantage of 50% off Premium Membership."

There was no mention of the plane or airfield on the official forums, but it was mentioned in the Second Life Universe forum. One resident posting there remarked, "on a scale of 1 to 5, I give it a 3.5." On the plus side, "Looks great," "Simple usage," Beginner mode takes a minimal amount of effort/practice to get used to," "The propellor actually spins, as opposed to a spinning texture," "I like the subtle trailing smoke." Among the cons, "When crossing a sim border, it repeats the last control input," "It doesn't tell you that you can now click the body of the plane for options," "Whether you're idle or full-throttle, it sounds the same."
