Frets Nirvana Performs at Veterans Isle HFOT Benefit

At Veterans Isle yesterday, September 17 at 2PM SL time, a noted performer came out of his hiatus. Frets Nirvana, known best for his help in organizing fundraisers for Homes For Our Troops, was once again picking up his guitar and singing after a break from performing.

It has been quite a while but I am happy to inform you that inspiration has hit and I will once again climb the stage in Second Life today September 17 @ 2 PM.  I will be performing at the Veterans Isle hangar and all tips/donations are going to our efforts for HFOT in Second Life.  You can expect a new repertoire of tunes and hopefully my music has gotten better with age.  Rest assured that it has still been a big part of my life even though I have not been performing it in SL for quite a while.  My intention is to once again inspire you and put a smile on your day with music.  I hope to see you today at Veterans Isle.  We will see where life’s musical adventure takes us after this!  David Steel has been kind enough to offer his DJ talents at 1 PM prior to my performance so come on out early and have a great Sunday afternoon.

Frets performed for a moderate though enthusiastic crowd, which dropped money into two house-shaped kiosks on either side of the stage. Bri McMahon, who was assisting, would thank them, "tysm for your generous donations to HFOTS! ... tp in your friends, don't let them miss out on Mr Frets being back for a special concert, or miss out on helping us Build Homes and Rebuild Lives along with Homes for  Our Troops!" She would continue to say more, "365 homes built, 74 current projects going, and 90 cents on the dollar goes directly to the program. ... Homes for Our Troops is a BBB Accredited Top Rated Military and Veteran Charity that will never cold call you asking for donations. ... Their mission: To build and donate specially adapted custom homes nationwide for severely injured post-9/11 Veterans, to enable them to rebuild their lives.... Since its inception in 2004, nearly 90 cents out of every dollar spent has gone directly to our program services for Veterans. HFOT builds these homes where the Veteran chooses to live, and continues its relationship with the Veterans after home delivery to assist them with rebuilding their lives. ..."

There was also some musing during the event, "Sorry xxxxxxx, didn't mean to kick ya like a can can girl." "I can't feel my avi butt." There was someone using the  "LEEROYYYYY JENKINS!!!!!" gesture. And there was someone with an unusual name, "Welcome, ThisPainsme."

At the end of the event, a total of 40,000 Linden dollars had been raised. Frets kept his promise, and donated an additional 40,000 L, bringing the total to 80,000 Linden dollars.

Fundraising events at Veterans Isle are usually on the first Wednesday of every month. But there have been occasional additional ones. For more information on Homes For Our Troops, click here: https://www.hfotusa.org/.

More Ranch Sims On The Map

For those Premium-Plus residents who are looking forward to getting their own Ranch Linden Home, good news. The sims in which these homes are located in are growing in number, and thus the number of homes themselves. A month after we first reported that the homes were open for living in, the original 28 sim area has close to tripped in size, and now extends to the original Houseboat area, connected to it by a single ocean sim. Motown and the Welcomehub sims are a little to the south.

Checking out the channel myself, I noticed someone had left an inner tube rezzer, and for good reason. Flying over the channel was disabled. But trying to 'toob my way over, I ended up crashing.

More on Bellisseria's growth on the map later.

Summit City

There's a new community in Second Life one can make a home at, Summit City. It is welcoming new residents. This includes roleplayers such as firefighers, policemen, and others who make a real-life city running, but it is not necessary to get a place here. They offer luxurious homes at various price ranges, and promise constant updates and land development. Events are held here to help encourage community activity. If you have breedable pets, they are welcome here (within reason).

For more information, check our Discord at https://discord.gg/R74jRmUe3e , or message Jack Asclepius (JackAsclepius Resident)

Fantasy Subcontinent Off Bellisseria Open, Fairgrounds Water Park Closes

Near the beginning of the month, the subcontinent for the new Fantasy-themed Linden Homes had appeared off Bellisseria. Recently, the land was open to all, and the houses were available for those with Premium accounts to claim.

Dropping by, the place looked much like the display area showing the houses at the Second Life Birthday. the four types of houses were there. So were the trees, crystals, mushrooms, and other decorations, as were the bridges over the water. There was one notable difference. As the houses were now being claimed, some were being decorated for individual tastes with pets, statues, more lights, and other items. I had yet to hear about a community center of some kind. But this may change in the future.

On another note about news from the Linden Home continent, There's been a water park in the Bellisseria Fairgrounds, with pools, lounge chairs to enjoy the sun, and four tall slides that took close to a minute to go down into the water. Some wag also put a Bellisserian Slenderman doll in the water as a joke. But the fun didn't last forever, and last week it's closing was announced.

This week will be the final farewell to the water park. It's been an amazing summer and Vari and I would like to sincerely thank you all for your continued support of the Belli Animal Sanctuary and the Bellisseria Fairgrounds!

There were a few farewell events. But people continued to drop by afterwards to slide, or just to relax. But this isn't necessarily a permanent end. The water park may be back sometime in the future.

Some Sunweaver Houses

If your could make your home in however you wanted it, what would it look like? That's a question many here in Second Life ask themselves. Some of us don't bother getting one as avatars don't need a place to sleep or bathe. But others feel a strong desire to have someplace to call their very own. Some of us are satisfied with a small place. Others want something more. Here's how some of my virtual neighbors here in the Sunweaver community choose to make their homes.

See the pictures in Places.

East Bellisseria Now Open

Last week, a huge land mass of sims appeared to the east of Bellisseria, though were separated from the landmass and closed to the public. Last night, the gap had been filled, and the sims in the new areas were apparently all open (the map on the left is more accurate than the one above as zooming out cut a few of the sims).

East Bellisseria is a continent in its own right. Going about, there were both log and Victorian style Linden Homes. There were also forests, streams, wide rivers, bridges, beaches, and hill ranges. Where there once had been a the gap separating the closed land from the open were many of the mounds of hills. But some of these peaks deeper inland  were over 100 meters high.

Yours truly saw some people waiting in groups at the edge on Tuesday afternoon, March 31. So the sims may have been opened on April 1. And some of them had some funny names appropriate to the day, such as "Spruce Spingsteen," "Darling Clementine," "Gold Spitoon." "Whyne," "Hootnanny," "Jester," and "Fools Errand." One can always "Pop Over" and turn a "New Leaf." They can do a "Poormans Wager," Or head up the "Wazoo." "Gesunheit."

The Moles have apparently been very busy. Stay tuned for more information.

New Sims, Linden Home Areas, Offshore Island, Added to Bellisseria

For those whom have been anxiously awaiting the next batch of Linden homes, your wait  may soon be over. Ten new sims have been added to the Bellisseria continent, six of which hadn't appeared on the map yet as of the writing of this article.

Even though the lower six weren't visible on the map yet, they were visible and accessible in-avatar, including some dock areas for houseboats.

In the four sims that were visible on the map, there were some houseboats set up, though not quite ready to be claimed.

Some places for land-based Linden Homes had what looked like Monopoly house tokens. Perhaps these were to mark where real homes were to go.

That's not all that's appeared in the Costner Bay and Whiskey Bay sims, there's an island with an airstrip and a pier. The airstrip is at Costner Bay (118/82/23). The pier is at Whiskey Bay (173/11/23). Like six of the sims, it wasn't yet on the map when this story was being written.

When some houseboat Linden Homes were released last month, the 709 houses were snapped up in just 27 minutes. Since then however, Linden Lab has announced the price of Premium accounts, which are necessary to claim a Linden Home, will go up significantly later this month. It will be interesting to see how much of an effect the price hike has on how fast the homes are claimed.

Addition: As of 10 AM SL time, the remainder of the new sims have appeared on the map, but not the island yet.

Linden Lab Launches Horizons Residential Regions

Last month, a number of new sims under development by Linden Lab were spotted, but no one but the Lindens and the Department of Public Works knew at the time what purpose they would serve. yesterday in the Linden blog, the Lab finally revealed the purpose of these sims and a name: Horizons. For those who guessed these were going to be new Linden Homes, you were partially right. 36 of the sims have been designated the Horizons Residential Regions.

(click here if the video fails to load)

Unlike a Linden Home which has a static look, the owners of these plots can alter the style of house with a selection of several possible furutistic-looking choices. The house itself is described as having zero land impact. The land itself cannot be terraformed.

The homes are apparently not a bonus for Premium accounts. The Linden blog states they  will be auctioned off to buyers on Friday November 18.

Besides the Horizon Residential Regions, there are a few "Community and Info Hubs" among them, "The first of the two, the community hubs, are designed for Residents to use for their community groups, meetings, and events. These beautiful hubs feature a nice, serene environment to be social and enjoy alongside all your favorite fellow Residents. The second of these two areas are the info hubs. These hubs feature land information, as well as an easy access portal that takes you directly to the mainland experience itself. There are also links to the wiki available which provide access to helpful knowledge regarding the housing system. A mailbox demo and building demos are set up to show you the controls featured in the new housing system. Residents will also find any update information here regarding the housing and mailbox system!"

Daniel Voyager wrote that the new sims were located just north of the adult continent of Zyndra, visible from Shell Beach . But as it turns out, the sims can be accessed by both flying in from the sim and teleporting over. The area had a general futuristic feel to it, with some variations in the terrain and occasional decorative structures in between. So feel free to explore these new areas.

In the middle of the Horizons Residential Regions, there were six sims for a "Horizons Experience" game by Linden Lab. This will be discussed in another article.

A Dream of Snow

While I was checking for more winter sports venues I came across a very lovely sim you should explore. It is called "Yuki No Yumi ... A Dream of Snow." The region is a natural Japanese winter setting created by Jac Mornington. It is elegantly beautiful, incorporating the mountains, valleys, brooks, and seas  enveloped in snow. Delicate bridges connect the hillocks that are surrounded by running streams. Several lovely typical Japanese homes fully decorated sit in an area near the center of the region.

While I was there some lovely Japanese avatars were wandering through and enhanced the beauty of the area. As you follow along the paths you will be charmed by discoveries, a hot spring, where you can relax, a chair overlooking a pond inhabited by a duck family. an ice covered pond where majestic cranes stand. I passed a stag watching over his family while they visited a feeding station.

High on a hill there are temple ruins and below a small buddhist worship temple stands along the entrance road. The view is so majestic with waters and mountains it is difficult to find the edges of the sim. It seems to go on and on which adds to the beauty. Take a walk and relish the tranquility, a good way to start the new year.
