Bellisseria Oasis Water Park

On Sunday August 23, I heard about a water park at Bellesseria Fairgrounds, the "Big Splash Adventure Oasis Water Park." It had just opened, and there was a party to celebrate.

The party, in front of a small stage on the beach sand, had over a dozen present, including the DJ and the two "Bell Hammies." Besides the music, there was much joking to be had, and one of the hammies getting into a little trouble, "You're lucky you're cute."

After the party came checking out the pool and slides. There were chairs you could just sit and relax on. But the real fun was with the water slides. Just click on the ring over the exit, and be teleported to the top. There, just sit on the innertube, and enjoy the ride. It's best viewed in mouselook.

The ride may not be up for too long, though. With the traditional end of Summer vacation season a little more than a week away, it's possible the park may close just afterwards.

And ... Gone. SL23B Sims Closed To Exhibitors

Yesterday, Thursday July 23, was the last day the SL23B sims were up for exhibitors, also known as "Takedown Day." If you left anything behind after Midnight, you might not get it back until next year. So naturally there was space after space empty of exhibits.

And so this meant the SL Newser's exhibit had to come down as well.

There will be one or two more articles about the SL23B, and at least one more about the Relay for Life, of which we had to all but cut off coverage due to The Birthday starting just after the Flood Party. And after that, the "Busy Time," which I often call the period of time from late May to mid to late July, finally slows back down. And August will see me catching up on a few things I put off while I focused on the big news. But if you have pictures, or a story, you'd like to share, by all means do so.

Have a great summer,

Waterpark At Bellisserian Fairgrounds

In Gemma Cleanslate latest article, she writes about the attraction this month at Bellisaria's Fairgrounds: The Oasis Waterpark. The Bellisarian Hamsters, also known as the "Bell Hammies," made it with some long, twisty slides. And there are the DJ parties, and there's the game room. So what did Gemma think?

Burn2 Summer Burn, "Whimsy"

This weekend from Friday to Sunday, the Burn2 Summer Burn event took place. Called "Whimsy," it had a whimsical tone with many of the builds intending to be on the amusing side. It took place at Burning Man - Deep Hole.

But not all of it was whimsical. When I finally had a chance to send an alt over, there was a tribute to a late friend, "Next song is Take Five, a cover of it by King Tubby... I play it in honour of Ktadhn, who used to play Take Five by the Dave Brubeck Quartet for every single Lamplighter procession (smile) As soon as the song would start, he would IM me and say, 'A little jazz for you' We remember you, KT!!!"

Gemma should have more on Whimsy soon,

Marianne McCann's Summer Fireworks

On Saturday June 17 at 8PM, Marianne McCann resumed what has become a summertime tradition of the Bay City community: the weekly firework show at the Livingtree schoolhouse. She sent a message to everyone on her friend list about a half hour earlier, and over time a small crowd showed up. And on the hour, the pyrotechnics began.

Bay City's most noted child avatar fired off the rockets, sparklers, and other fireworks from the roof of the building while GoSpeed Racer spun the tunes for the event from the ground. The light show was in reds, blues, greens, and other colors. and got many positive remarks from the crows.

Marianne ended her show with a rainbow over the school. The crowd cheered, thanking her, and eventually went their separate ways, some looking forward to the SL14B the following day.

Should the fireworks show be like previous years, it will place almost every Saturday at 8PM until after Labor Day.

Summer Creators Festival

Currently, KT Festivals is staging their Summer Creators Festival.

The decorated stalls and gacha abound with unique and varied creations. In addition, there are exclusive one of a kind items for auction, festival bargains for 20L and several fashion showcases featuring the works of several designers.  Amongst the stalls of wonderful creations hide animals of all descriptions in this jungle themed ground.

The Fashion shows take place on Saturday 16th July at 1pm and 7pm ( different designers ) and a Pink Parade on Sunday 17th July featuring designs in pink, whose sale proceeds will all go to the charity.

Our chosen charity this season is pinkribbon.org  which supports breast cancer patients and focuses on research into the origins of breast cancer. This cause is close to our hearts on a personal, RL level and we've put that passion into every inch of the festival.  We have had so much interest in the Festival this time the response has been amazing and we hope to raise a really good amount for this very worthwhile cause. Please come on down and visit us!

Contact Amythe Moonlight or Kushi Vyper for further information on this or any of the KT Festivals.

Newser Beach Party This July

About twice a year, sometimes more, the Newser crew holds a beach party, to both have a little fun and get to know our readers. Usually we have one close to our anniversary on June 6. But this time, there have been a lot of things going on. Second Life is a busy time anyway in June with the Second Life Birthday celebrations, of which the Newser has been a participant as well as covering it, and the Relay events, which include our neighbors the Sunweavers / Sunbeamer Team. And lately there's been some other things going on, including in real life for some of the staff. So we will be postponing the party until a weekend between the SLB and the Relay Weekend, which means sometime in July. No one event caused this decision. We've simply had to deal with a lot on top of what we usually do, and something had to give.

Sorry to those whom were looking for a little fun in the sun with us. If anyone wants to invite the team to their own beach party, by all means those of us who can make it will drop by. In the meantime, keep the sunscreen and swimwear handy for next month.

Marianne McCann's Last Summertime Firework Show For 2015

Every Saturday this summer, Marianne McCann has been launching fireworks from the school at "Kick the Can" in the Livingtree sim for her friends. On Saturday September 5, on the Labor Day weekend, Marianne announced at 7:45 that the 8PM event would be the last of it's kind for the rest of the year.

As usual, the crowd "Oooo"ed and "Ahhh"ed at the show, complementing Marianne for the beauty of the displays. There were a few crack comments about the Bay City Fire Department giving her a fine for launching the pyrotechnics so close to a building, and the place catching afire. Others responded she'd gotten away with everything else so far.

The music for the event was provided by DJ GoSpeed Racer, on her KONA stream.

Finally the show ended with the last of the virtual fireworks forming a rainbow, and GoSpeed playing the music of a certain Japanese anime as the finale, saying there were "bonus points" for the one who correctly guessed it. Someone correctly answered, "Star Blazers," and asked what the points were. GoSpeed answered, "The knowledge that you're smart," then giggled.

And so ended the last of Marianne's summertime fireworks shows, but only for now. In June 2016, Marianne is sure to do them again, much to the worry of Bay City's fire inspectors.

Newser Crew Beach Party

On Sunday January 20, the reporters of Second Life Newser and some of their friends met at Cova's Cove for a beach party.

The place was a private beach island, owned by our friend Convadonga Writer, whom some of us worked alongside with at JamesT Juno's old SLN. She plans to join us when real life matters permit. But in the meantime, she loves having us over at her place for parties.

Among those showing up were KariaKae KariaKae (Kariakae Karu) of the Second Life Coast Guard, shown above dancing, our friend Any1 Gynoid, Annie Brightstar, Lanai Jerrico of the Second Life Enquirer, and others.

Skylark Lefavre appears with Kiwi and Recoyote Mindes, doing a little "horsing around" with pony avatars.

Grey Lupindo shows off her grass skirt, which got complements from fellow writers Gemma Cleanslate, DrFran Babcock, and Joshua Xavier.

At one point, Joshua changed to a dragon avatar Xymbers Slade had written about earlier. Xymbers himself wasn't able to make the party in-avatar, but it could be argued because of the dragon, he still had a presence around. The results were jokes along the lines of, "hey, I came to have a picnic lunch, not end up a pincic lunch!"

A fun time was had by all

Newser Beach (and Pool) Party this Sunday

This Sunday, the crew of Second Life Newser will be taking a brief break from their reporting. We'll be heading to Cova's Cove, the home of our friend Covadonga Writer, and enjoying a little fun on the beach. This is a private residence, so instead of giving out a landmark, please Instant Message Bixyl Shuftan or one of the other Second Life Newser reporters.

The Party will be on January 19 at Noon SL time. Swimwear is encouraged. We have plans for a DJ to perform the music.

Summer Fair at Aero Pines Park

Gemma Cleanslate recently took a trip to Areo Pines Park. The park, noted for it's horseback riding and nature trails, is currently having it's summer fair. She took a look at the various rides and attractions, some what one would expect at a fair, others a bit unusual. So how enjoyable is the fair?

Reader Submitted: Camp HardKnock Summer 2013

Longtime readers may remember Mindy, one of the Steelhead Estates younger residents. The adopted daughter of Fuzzball and Eugine Ortega, she went to Camp Hardknock while the adults were busy getting ready for the Relay For Life. While there, Mindy took a pictures, and send a few to the Newser.

What's summer camp without getting some fireflies.

Mindy with a shy friend at the camp theater.

The archery range. Mindy says she was able to get one bulls-eye.

And where there are kids at camp, there are pranks. The one Mindy was most proud of, when she and the girls painted a pink panther paw on the side of the boy's cabin. She says it was a week before they discovered it.

That's it with Mindy's pictures. What's next for the little rascal? We'll soon see.
