SL22B: One Last Look Before The Close

Just hours are left before the Second Life Birthday sims close to all but exhibitors. So for those who are dropping in at the last minute, here's a few sights of what awaits you.

Bay City's exhibit by Marianne McCann is at http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/SLB%20Enchant/172/74/21

There were plenty of posters from events over the years, but that wasn't all. There were reminders of certain events such as some mystery fires set on April 1 and the shenanigans with Caledon that left much speculation unanswered, "What's a city without a few legends?"

Sheeba Metaluna's exhibit for All Fur Radio is located at https://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/SLB Electrify/212/70/21

Sheba and her "Flying Pickle" act can be a really big "dill" around some venues.

At http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/SLB%20Fabulous/182/64/21 , there was Physical Machines by Emilin Nakamori.

Making this one was described as "a wrenching experience."

I would write about her in 2008, and she's continued to experiment with what one can do with machines in Second Life since.

Heroes in Hats for VWEC (Education Consortium) at http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/SLB Fabulous/93/93/21

Virtual Museum Team at http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/SLB%20Fabulous/159/196/21

And by all means, don't miss the Newser's Pyramids of Giza exhibit by the talented Silvia Ametza, at http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/SLB%20Enchant/213/74/21 .

That's it for now. Our next article about the SLB will be after it's close. Hopefully if you're reading this, you can still get in

SL22B Starts Today

After weeks of preparation, the Second Life Birthday celebrations finally start today. The builds are finished (baring a few last minute minor tweaks), and ready for the public to see them.

The area for the celebration makes up 52 sims, including eight for adult-rated exhibits not shown on this map, being some distance to the east.

This includes the SL Newser's exhibit, at southeast SLB Enchant. Built by the talented Silvia Ametza and her team, it shows how time has altered the Pyramids of Giza.

The event begins at 11AM SL time when the sims all open. At 12 Noon today is the Opening Ceremony by Patch Linden at the Royal Keep at SLB Mesmerize (245/10/76), followed by numerous music events at the stages, with the resident-built exhibits available at any time from start to finish.

The Second Life Birthday will be in a few days. So what has Silvia Ametza and her team come up with for the Newser's exhibit. Well, here's a clue.

More to come.

The Newser SL21B Exhibit, And A Few More

The Second Life Birthday is over. But before the sims closed, the Newser had a chance to check out a few more exhibits. We naturally spend time to get a good look at our own first, built by Silvia Ametza and her team. So what did it look like close up? And what else did we manage to capture on camera?

See the pictures in Design.

Some SL20B Exhibits

The official events of the Second Life Birthday are over (unofficially, there will be more music events). But the exhibits will be up for several more days. There's too many to report on each one, but yours truly can go over a few.

Read and see more in Design.

Looking Back: The Newser's SL15B Exhibit

With the Second Life Twentieth Birthday celebrations, the SL20B, just a few days away, the Newser is taking a look back at the one five years ago, it's fifteenth. Our exhibit then reflected the theme, Crystal Anniversary, with a fifteen story crystal tower.

Like the majority of our exhibits over the years, it was built by Silvia Ametza. Here we are relaxing at a small park next to the build with a builder friend of hers.

The next five years would see many changes, though that's another story.

Second Life Birthday Starts Today

 *

Today is the first day of the Second Life Birthday. At 10 AM today, the exhibits open. And among the exhibits to check out is that of the Newser.

Built by Silvia Ametza, the build fits the Steampunk theme (though a few of the controls may be a tad on the Dieselpunk side. Drop by SLB Imagination (176/75/23) to see it.

At 12 Noon SL time are the Opening Ceremonies, to be done by Patch Linden. After that, Strawberry Linden will be doing a special Lab Gab on the event, looking around the various exhibits and places. (Click here for the Youtube link).

See you there.

SL19B Update: Newser Exhibit Sneek Peek

Silvia Ametza and her assistant Summer (NCsummer Resident) showed me their progress on the upcoming SL Newser exhibit for the SL19B. We can't show the whole thing yet. But we can offer a sneak peek.

Stay tuned for more information on "The Birthday."

Looking Back: "Hats On" To The SL14B Newser Exhibit

From the set of the SL14B five years ago, when the exhibition grounds were under a media silence rule that severely limited the pictures that could be shown then. Builder Silvia Ametza and I were looking over the Newser's build then. I added one important detail: the fedora. All Newser exhibits have a fedora on them somewhere (when it can be arranged).

Cartoon of the Day: On Top of The Newser Exhibit

Taken at the top of Silvia Ametza's SL18B Newser exhibit. While going about the SLB grounds, Mia Wallace decided to climb it, then I followed, then Zoren Manray. While this wasn't quite the conversation that followed, we had some fun times.

SL18B Starts Today

After a few months of planning and preparation, the Second Life Eighteenth Birthday is finally ready to begin.  There will be 23 sims with much to see and much to do. There will be numerous music events, both DJs and live performers. There will be at least one "Meet the Lindens" event, on Monday June 21. In some separate sims there's the "Shop and Hop" event. It is believed there will be one reveal of new Linden Homes. And of course there's all those resident exhibits.

Among the exhibits is that of the Second Life Newser. Build by Silvia Ametza (with help from Kimble (kimblecoles) ), the build reflects the theme "hidden worlds" with a look at the Earth's core (and a poke at the flat-Earthers). The build is in Pizzazz (187/171/23).

The sims are scheduled to open at 9AM SL time. At 11 AM is the Opening Ceremony at the Main Stage.

Main Stage 1: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/SLB%20Fascinate/33/226/21
Main Stage 2: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/SLB%20Dazzle/28/32/21
Main Stage 3: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/SLB%20Wonderous/225/31/21
Main Stage 4: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/SLB%20Exhilarate/230/232/21

See you at the Birthday.

Addition: At the Opening Ceremony, Patch Linden stated the next theme of Linden Homes is "Fantasy."

The Second Life 17th Birthday Celebration Begins

And finally, it's open. After weeks of reporting on it under a "no pictures" rule, we're finally able to show you what the Second Life 17th Birthday celebration grounds look like.

At 11 AM, Patch officially opened the event at the opening ceremony at the Main Stage (picture from Linden Lab's Youtube channel).

There's a lot to see with 23 sims making up the SL17B grounds (the Linden Home Demo Area is still off-limits for now).

There are a number of builds, and several sims made up of resident-made exhibits.

Among them is the Newser's exhibit, a tropical vacation island courtesy of Silvia Ametza, the "Azure of Tonatiuh," located at SL17B Stunning (210/254/23).

Silvia did a great job in miniaturizing things for the build.

Yesterday was the "Soft Opening" for those already in the SL Birthday group, and there were a number in the gift area getting freebies.

Among the exhibits was a Bleriot monoplane flight simulator, recreating the flight of Lous Bleriot's crossing of the English Channel by air in 1909.

There's a lot more to see, but further descriptions will have to wait until another article.

Stay tuned for the Meet the Lindens schedule at the Auditorium.

Sneak Peek: SL17B SL Newser Exhibit

It's just a few more days until the Second Life 17th Birthday begins. While we can't show you any pictures from there, here's one of the SL Newser exhibit, by builder Silvia Ametza, taken before it was moved to there.

So what is it? Stay tuned to find out.

SL17B Sneak Peek

The Second Life Birthday is coming, and like many others, the Newser has signed up for an exhibit. Like most other times, we've turned to the creative and friendly builder Silvia Ametza to construct the build. So what is it? Well, we're not going to say exactly what it is, yet. But what we can do is provide a small hint. Here's a piece of it while still at Silvia's building area. Have fun imagining just what it is.

See you at The Birthday

SL Newser's SL16B Exhibit Appears on Designing Worlds

(Click here if the video fails to play)

Designing Worlds has it's second video .
of the Second Life Sixteenth Birthday up. At about 37:22 into the video, Saffia Widdershins and Elrik Merlin drop by the Second Life Newser SL16B exhibit. They also have a few words with yours truly (and you get to hear why I describe myself as having "a voice for newspapers."). Saffia called Silvia Ametza's creation, "A very clever build, using perspective," saying it looks much bigger than it is further away.

Sneak Peak: The Newser SL16B Exhibit

With the Second Life Birthday celebration a couple months away, the talented Silvia Ametza, whom was behind several previous builds for the Newser, has generously offered to donate her time, and prims, into designing and building the SL Newser's SL16B exhibit.

What her build will be? Well, we're not telling you, yet. But we can offer you a sneak peak.

Stay tuned for more.

Sneak Peek: Silvia's Secret Project

Silvia Ametza, the woman who's been the designer of the Newser's exhibits for the past few years, has been helping out a friend with another project. It's not quite complete, but Silvia did suggest putting up a hint as to what it is. The project should be finished soon.

Reader Submitted: "Breaking News"

From Maeto Firecaster, a picture of the Newser's SL15B exhibit, "BREAKING NEWS!!!! Sonic has taken over!" Presumably this picture was taken at Silvia Ametza's build when "The Birthday" was at it's busiest as the only way Sonic would stay in one place for long would be all that lag.

Interview with Silvia Ametza

Who is Silvia Ametza? Newser readers will remember her as the builder of the SL15B Newser exhibit for this year and the previous two. But she, along with her partner Aimeelou Destiny, have made a number of things over time. Deaflegacy recently met up with Silvia, and learned a number of things about her, as well as seeing a huge example of what she's made in the past.

SL15B Celebration Begins Today

After months of preparation, the Second Life Birthday celebration is finally about to start. For a little over a week, residents will get to enjoy various events, music and discussions, across twenty-four sims of stages, exhibits, and other builds.

And among the exhibits is that of the Second Life Newser. Presenting the SL Newser SL15B Tower, courtesy of Silvia Ametza and Aimee Louise Destiny (aimeelou.destiny). The crystal-shaped structure is fifteen stories high, one for each year of Second Life. There are a few pictures at the top of the Grid's first year, plus a parachute giver for those wanting to dive off the side. Come see our exhibit, and listen to the tunes of Farshore Radio at SL15B Spectacular (196/14/23)
