CDS Holds Inauragal Ball

Sunday June 12 at the CDS was the Inaugural Ball, their party to celebrate a new term of their government. The event was held at the Schloss Ballroom in the Neufreistadt sim from Noon to 2 PM.

The theme of the event was "La Belle Epoque," described as "The era spanning years between the end of the Franco-Prussian War and the Beginning of Word War One." DJ Calli provided the music.

The CDS has been active lately. With Tor Karlsvalt as their current Chancellor, they have been in the process of having their community's land moved closer to VWEC Eduverse and other science sims. They also have an exhibit at the Second Life Birthday celebration, at SLB Amaze (164/63/23).

"Fimi" was the avatar for the real-life artist and cancer survivor, Stephanie Koslow. Her subject matter was her beloved Hudson River Valley, rendered in pastels.

"My art, my life, is about looking forward, never looking back – looking back serves no purpose but to break one’s heart when you’re walking a path as difficult as some of us do. So instead I look forward – to that next beautiful sunset on the river."

CDS Announcement: The Neufreistadt Kirche Available For Meetings

- Remembering those impacted by COVID-19, CDS honors worldwide health care providers
- available for celebrations of life, silent contemplation, group religious, spiritual, or non-religious gatherings
- no fees or obligations

We all know heartbreaking stories of people who have lost beloved family members and friends to this horrid, highly contagious COVID-19 global pandemic. As devastating as it is to lose a loved one, that pain is further deepened because next of kin are forbidden customary ways of grieving and mourning, forbidden to gather with supportive family and friends to celebrate a life and soothe the transitions. While those prohibitions apply to our solid lives, they don't to our Second Lives. Here we can hug and console each other. And while we can't prevent these tragedies from happening, we can provide people with a welcoming gathering space.

The people of the Second Life community of the Confederation of Democratic Simulators, known as the CDS, have a beautiful kirche on the Platz in Neufriestadt. We offer this kirche as a place where people can hold their mourning and celebration gatherings. The architecture of Neufreistadt is inspired by the physical world town of Rothenburg, Bavaria and that includes the beautiful Romanesque kirche. 

Here's a little bit about this kirche. From the beginning our kirche has been a nonsectarian public space. Consistent with the town architecture, we normally have a triptych that is a replica of the 16th C one by Tilman Riemenschneider in St. James's Church, Rothenburg ob der Tauber set up in front but that is easy to remove and replace with other religious or non religious pieces to accommodate the preferences of any gathering. We hope this offer will give some piece and relief to people in need.

With our most sincere gratitude, the CDS community has placed blue lights around the kirche bell tower dome to honor the healthcare providers around the world during this COVID-19 pandemic of 2020.

The Confederation of Democratic Simulators (CDS) invites all CDS Citizens and friends to the Inaugural Ball for our 30th Term.

The theme is TOKYO NIGHTS in honor of our newly elected Chancellor, Kyoko (Samara Barzane), and the Representative Assembly. 

Music will be provided by Callipygian Christensen.

Dress is not required to be formal, although you may feel welcome to wear evening dress. You are encouraged to dress for the theme; Japanese cosplay, kawaii or goth, would be welcome.

Two Anniversary Events, The CDS and Avatar Social Network

Two anniversaries are taking place this weekend. One is the tenth anniversary of the Confederation of Democratic sims, or CDS. The CDS forums (link) List several events there today and one tomorrow.

September 20th, 10:00 AM—Mike Carnell, in Concert.

Mike is a German gentleman, he sings authentic German songs and he sings them well. What a great way to begin any festivity that is to have a German flair, with an authentic German singer. Be there. It’s a little early, but then again we are going to party all day so we have to start early!

September 20th, 11:00 AM—Opening Oktoberfest Ceremony.

Come in your lederhosen as we salute the CDS flag and honor our Germanic history. The opening ceremony will then continue with German Polka music. Dance! Life throws a lot of mayhem our way, even our second life. And we all have the chance to hide from it, to sit it out or we could even dance through it. We hope you dance!

There will be a May Pole there and dance balls for you. Bring your sweetie or come alone. The beer is on CDS.

September 20th, 2:00 PM—In the Amphitheater, Live and in Concert, QUEEN!

Second Life's hottest tribute band company, Thunder Rock Productions once again brings their show to the stages of CDS. This astounding production company was voted the #1 entertainment act in Second Life for the year 2013. They kicked off the SL 11th birthday celebrations awhile back and they were the talk of CDS for awhile after that stage production.

Wayne, Pibbs, Crossfire Ricochet and their crew will be putting on a special performance just for us. This event will showcase the original Queen with Freddie himself. This production will feature an astounding laser light show and will be chock full of effects just for you. If you have to miss any of these fabulous events and performances, QUEEN in Concert is not the one!

September 20th, 4:00 PM—Bandit Eddingham Live From Baveria.

Yes, Bandit will be streaming a concert to us live from Germany.

Bandit is good! He is into American Country music. And just a little research shows he is not unknown in this genre in RL. He is inspired by many country singers that performed in the country music capital, Nashville, TN, USA. He has performed in many famous places himself, such as a performance at the one place all country music professionals seek as their ultimate career goal, the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, TN. Yes, Bandit is a pro in RL! Enjoy this level of talent presented just for our residents of CDS.

September 21st, 2:00 PM—Religious History Of CDS-Theology Tour and Lecture With Your Host, Gaius Tiberius Curio.

This event will fascinate you, as if you are not into our community theology, it will surprise you at the diversity of religions that exists in our community. We have Baptists, Pagans, Pentecostals, Wiccans, Moslems, Humanists, Buddists and Atheists practicing their faiths or lack thereof right here in our small community. And we all get along famously!

Join Gaius Tiberius Curio as he lectures on world religions and hosts a tour of our Shrines, Churches, Temples and religious icons and teaches the finer theological aspects exhibited in humanity. It will be interesting if you are an intellectual, and if you are a CDSer, you is one.

*Addition* Cleopatra Xigalia informed the Newser September 20 is officially the CDS' birthday. So the reason it's quite a busy day for them.

Earlier SL Newser Posted that the Avatar Social Network, which we reported on last month, was holding an event within Second Life to celebrate it's first anniversary. The Enquirer recently reported that the event will be from 9AM to 11PM at Prim (128/147/412).

        10th Anniversary of The Confederation of Democratic Simulators (CDS)!

We hope we can count on your news organization for promotion and coverage of our historical event. The Chancellor and other officials and citizens are available for interviews and to conduct tours of our beautiful regions. Please contact JerryDon Lane, Public Information Officer for scheduling.

The opening day of the celebration will be Sep 12, 2014. We have a fantastic line up of events for the day including:

1:00pm   Concert pianist
6:00pm   The day's events will end with the appearance and performance of a modern dance troupe, La Oro

The celebration will continue until mid-November with a myriad of special events including Queen in concert, a bluegrass festival,intellectual lectures on Greek/Roman mythology,country artists, DJ competitions, a blues festival, dances, poetry readings, an art festival, historic tours of CDS, a treasure hunt, our annual Oktoberfest and more!

About CDS:

With approximately 80 current citizens, the Confederation of Democratic Simulators is the oldest democracy in Second Life. Originally founded in 2004 as the City of Neualtenburg in the Anzere region as part of a contest by Linden Labs to preserve the snow sims, the Confederation of Democratic Simulators (C.D.S.)is now a five-region community operated by the citizens. Plans are currently underway to add a sixth region. Each region is designed to reflect a specific theme: Bavarian, Roman, Alpine and Tuscan. Resident master builders have created amazing builds in each of the regions including the Schloss within a walled city, the Kirche, the Monastery, the Praetorium and a Tuscan fishing village. All of the regions are connected by a planned infrastructure and offer a place to walk, bicycle or horseback ride. We even have a Museum of Contemporary Art (MoCA)!

Our officials are elected every 6 months and include:

    The Chancellor - Executive Branch
    The Representative Assembly (5 seats) - Law making and long-term planning

The Scientific Council makes up the Philosophical Branch and is currently comprised of six non-elected and non-term seats, The function of the SC is to interpret and enforce the CDS Constitution as well as resolving citizen disputes and moderating the forums.

This year the CDS celebrates nine years in Second Life.  All of you, citizens, friends and SL residents, have made our historic regions an important part of your Second Life experience.   It is with great pleasure that CDS can offer these events for your enjoyment as repayment for your support.

CDS Inagural Ball

On Saturday December 10th at 11AM, the CDS had their Inaugural Ball to celebrate their new representative leaders. Last month, there was an attempt by their old Assembly to delay elections due to technical glitches, but the residents responded with a protest. Their leaders relented, and after elections were held their 16th Assembly was elected along with Chancellor Trebor Warcliffe.

The Ball was held at the Schloss Balcony in the Neufreistadt sim. The location was high over the land at a height one would expect of a floating platform. It was just at cloud level, making for some whispy visual images when looked at certain distances. Callipygian Christensen provided the music, which included classical and formal tunes.
