Press Release: Survivors and CareGivers at the Relay Weekend

Surivors and Caregivers we need you!!

Relay weekend is to celebrate our Survivors and their Caregivers (remember caregiving is physical and virtual)

We need your help to get things ready!

#1 - Survivor sim
Please fill out the attached notecard and return to Savannahraye or Lizzy Gracemount as soon as possible. We are asking that all notecards be returned by May 15!

Your photos (and stories)  will become part of the Survivor sim build!

Also, we are updating the old Survivor stories book (the current one is from 2011!) and are including Caregivers stories as well.  The book will be available for you to receive a copy on the Survivor sim during Relay weekend - then will be moved to Hope Haven following Relay. The new format will be an online magazine!

#2 - RFL Honor Lap
Have you registered for the 2019 Honor Lap for our Survivors & Caregivers? This is the opening lap of Relay! Registration for the Honor Lap is not required - but it helps us make sure everyone is spread out around the track (so we don't crash the sims from the start!) You will also be invited to join the RFL Honor Lap group and be given a tag as a Survivor or Caregiver.

Hope Gardens 2016 Photography Exhibition: Part 2

At Saint Kitts Isle this week, an art and photography exhibition has been on display. While the building itself is a work of art, and the photo auctions themselves are noteworthy, the centerpiece are the portraits of twenty-five cancer survivors and caregivers. Bixyl Shuftan talked to Catalina Staheli and Melodie Jigsaw about the exhibition and how it came to be.

Press Release: Cancer Survivors and Caregivers to be Honored at Relay For Life

Cancer survivors and their caregivers will walk the celebratory first hour at the annual American Cancer Sociery event on July 18 at the Relay For Life regions (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Relay%20For%20Life/80/64/21). The Survivors Hour will start at 10 AM SL time, and anyone who has ever been diagnosed with cancer may participate. As the survivors walk, other event participants will cheer then on in a demonstration of support and celebration. The five-year survival rate for all cancers has risen to 68 percent, thanks in part to the many colunteers around the world who participate in Relay for Life events in their communities and in Second Life.

The Relay For Life program is a community event where teams and individials set up "campsites" around a track and take turns walking or running for the duration of the event. Each team has at least one participant on the track at all times. Four million people participated in more than 6,000 events worldwide last year. The money raised supports groundbreaking cancer research, education programs, and critical services for people facing cancer.

If you are a cancer survivor or caregiver in Second Life and would like to take part in the Relay for Life of Second Life event, you can register at Http://bit.ly/1SCvJ5w or contact TS Darrow inworld or at tsdarrow@gmail.com.

About the American Cancer Society

The American Cancer Society is a global grassroots force of nearly three million volunteers saving lives and fighting for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. As the largest voluntary health organization, the Society's efforts have contributed to a 22 percent decline in cancer death rates in the US during the past two decades, and a 50 percent drop in smoking rates. Thanks in part to our progress, nearly 14.5 million Americans who have had cancer and countless more who have avoided it will celebrate more birthdays this year. We're determined to finish the fight against cancer. As the nation's largest private, not-for-profit investor in cancer research, we're finding cures and ensuring people facing cancer have the help they need and continuing the fight for access to quality health care, lifesaving screenings, clean air, and more. For more infomration, to get help, or to join the fight, visit cancer.org or call us anytime, day or night, at 1-800-227-2345.
