The Fairelands Quest Is Up

Good news for Fantasy Faire fans, anyone who likes an interactive story, likes games with big prizes, and especially all three. The Fairelands Quest is finally up and running. This year, the name of the Quest is "The Dreamcaster's Cauldron."

The Bard Queen is perplexed.

All across the Fairelands, there’s been a rash of bad dreams. Not just bad — really bad. Teeth-gritting, terrifying, haunt-you-all-day-long nightmares.

Sleepers are waking in a panic. In some, annoyance turns to fury. Assertiveness turns to aggression. Sadness turns to deep despair. Throughout the lands, violence and misery are spreading in ever-widening circles.

What could possibly be happening?

To get the Quest HUD, it's located in Fairelands Junction and most other central areas of the other Fairelands sims (at FJ, it's at 44,139,87 ). You will see a pair of kiosks labeled "The Dreamcasters Cauldron." For just the HUD, quest companion, and lantern, pay 250L in the smaller kiosk. The larger has those and a number of outfits, one for male and female for normal sized avatars, plus a few for dinkies.

To play, you'll need to attatch both the hud and your companion Pax. The outfit is optional. So is the lantern, though it will help you see in dark places. The first step is to find the Bard Queen, who explains the situation. Then you have to find the dreamers, presumably followed by your companion Paz. After that, well, we'll see.

More on the Quest, and the Fairelands, later.

*Addition* I thought the first thing after talking to the Bard Queen was meeting with your companion. But that wasn't the case this time.

Fantasy Faire Sims Up

In just a few days, the Fantasy Faire will be here. Already, the sims of the Fairelands are up. Eighteen sims of landscapes to explore, and shops to buy from. And there's also the music events, events such as the Literary Festival, the Jail and Bail, and Children of Stories. And then there's The Fairelands Quest, this year "The Dreamcaster's Cauldron." There's plenty for both casual visitors and "Fairlanders" who eagerly drop by every year.

The Fantasy Faire is a Relay for Life event, with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.

The sims open on Thursday, April 17.

The Fairelands Quest: "The Magic of Dragons"

One of the attractions of the Fantasy is the Fairelands Quest. In these interactive stories, you get to be the protagonist of a fantasy tale, performing a quest in behalf of the Bard Queen. One gets prizes along the way, and completing the quest gets you a heap. This year offers the quest "The Magic of Dragons." A year ago, a dragon had four offspring. Now, the young dragons seek to bring new life to a land damaged by the Unweaver years ago. But they need help to do so.

To play the game, you'll need the required HUDs. They can be found at kiosks at Fairelands Junction at (183/178/124) and Nova Nadiya. The kiosks are being placed at the landing points of the other Fairlands sims, but not may be at all of them yet. The smaller one contains the basic game for 250L, the gaming HUD. The larger one has the deluxe version, which includes the game HUD and a themed outfit for 350L. After purchasing, just add the item, which appears on your hand, and click to unpack.

There are separate male and female outfits.

Once the HUD is set up (and the outfit if you got it worn), the first part of the quest is to find the Bard Queen, who is somewhere in Fairlands Junction. When you get to her, she will explain what's going on, and what she wants you to do, the first part being to find and pick up your companion.

Eventually, you'll find the four young dragons, each of whom asks for a few items, which will have you going across the Fairlands to search for them. Pressing on "hint" will get you a few clues on where to look. You're searching for small chests around the sim.

The Quest is in two parts, so if you got the first part fairly early, you'll have to go back to the kiosks to get the second

Cartoon of The Day: Tree-mendous Look

Taken at Fairelands Junction. Guess the tree trunk is supposed to be some kind of weapon, but it would take "tree-mendous" strength to wield.

Tha Fantasy Faire Is Open

At last, after the weeks and perhaps months of getting ready, and the equally long anticipation by fans, the Fantasy Faire, the 15th this year, is finally open.

Welcome one and all to the 2023 Fairelands! It has been a long time since we have all been together, and it feels so good to be home! The doors are now open. For the next 18 days we will live, love and celebrate in the company of friends and family. As you start your explorations, be sure to turn up the volume on Fantasy Faire Radio and listen to the musical introduction to this year's worlds.

There is a LOT to see, with twenty sims that are beautifully done with numerous spots to explore. And there's just as much to do, with the Littlefest Tours, the music events such as the parties on the Fairchylde, the Literary Festival, the Children's Roleplay, the Masked Ball, the Jail and Bail events (Patch Linden will likely be in one), the Fairelands Quest ("The Quest hasn't started yet" Fairelanders sometimes musingly tell one another), and of course lots of shopping, the stores cleverly worked into the landscapes and buildings, a portion of the money going to the Relay for Life (for some items, all of it).

Have fun at the Fare, but don't delay for too long. The events end on Sunday May 7. The sims will likely remain up for a few more days, but just how long is uncertain.

The Fairelands Quest Is Open

After a couple days of delays due to one of the team falling ill, this year's Fairelands Quest, "The Dreaming Cat," is on and open for people to play out. The announcement came just after 9PM SL time.

Thanks so much for your patience, everyone! Quest HUDs are currently at landing points of regions from Junction through the western tier of the Fairelands to Sunken Honey. I'm continuing to move clockwise to complete the circle. We're grateful for your kindness during the delay - now go have fun ♥

To take part in this interactive story, head over to one of the Fairelands sims where the Quest HUDs are available, the ones in Fairelands Junction located at (124/102/69). There are two HUDs available for purchase. The basic package with just the HUD costs 250 Lindens. For the Deluxe, which has both the HUD and a Fantasy-themed outfit: Elven robes fit for someone in royal circles.

After attaching the HUD and the piece representing your helper (which will be invisible at first), the first part of a quest is usually to find the Bard Queen. This year, it's to find your companion: a raccoon named Cheeky. To do so, head to the border of The Clouded Mountains. It won't be long before you come across the raccoon, and she will automatically appear on your shoulder (provided you added her marker that came with the HUD). You then go to Fairelands Junction to find the Bard Queen, and find out there are other intelligent critters across the Fairelands and you're to try and find them all. One out of three will need your assistance, and you get a reward for finding them.

The date of release of Part Two, originally scheduled to be sometime today or tonight, is unknown. The Quest will go on to the Faire's closing, at May 8.

The Fantasy Faire is a fundraiser event for the Relay for Life in Second Life.

Fantasy Faire Opens

After weeks, months for some, the Fantasy Faire has opened. The twenty two sims opened up just after Noon SL time today.

The Fairelands have returned from the Mists; twenty fantasy worlds forming a circle of lands, a chain of people across the many realms. Welcome home, Fairelanders!

Fairelands Junction is the main entrance to the sim, though people can enter at any sim. There, I found plenty of people, some taking a while to fully rezz.

At the Junction, there were a number of heralds there to assist those new to the Faire, identifiable by their lanterns.

The sims offer much picturesque scenery to explore.

Sometimes the other people exploring with you can be scenery in themselves.

Besides enjoying the scenery, and shopping at the stores and stalls, there are the roleplays, and there's the parties. One can often find avatars of all kinds whooping it up at the FaireChylde. Later in the Faire, there's the Fairelands Quest, of which playing it will get you some prizes.

The Faire runs to Sunday May 8. So don't miss out on this great event.

The Fantasy Faire is a Relay for Life fundraiser, one of the major events in the Relay season.

Fantasy Faire's Faireland's Quest Now Active

One of the fun parts of the Fantasy Faire, the Fairelands Quest game, is now live and ready to play.  This year's theme is "The Language of Birds."

They lift our spirits. They adorn our world. They are revered as the messengers of heaven. Yet, you might not know that birds and their beautiful songs have long been deep in the fight against the Unweaver.

And now, the Bard Queen is worried.

The Unweaver’s latest bit of malice is taking its toll across the realms. And an ancient deterrent created by birds has fallen victim. Unless an intrepid adventurer steps up to help, the result could be heartbreaking.

To play the game, head to one of the locations in the Fairelands sims it's available, such as Fairelands Junction (71/134/35). You can either get just the basic version for 250L, or the deluxe version which includes an outfit for 350L. Once you get it, you then "add" it, and the container will appear in your hand. Touch it to receive the HUD, your companion Joyus, and if you got the deluxe package you'll get the male and female outfits. "Add" them as well and touch the square that appears on your screen to get the outfit.

To play the game, add both the HUD and the companion. Once it starts, your first task will be to find the Bard Queen.  So what is she worried about and what does it have to do with birds? Play the game and find out.

The second part of the quest is scheduled to be available to start Thursday April 29, though there have been minor delays in some past years.

Happy questing,

Fantasy Faire Opens

And it's begun. The twenty-one sims of the Fantasy Faire are now open to the general public. Already some of the sims, such as Fairelands Junction where the main entrance is at (61/101/34), are a bit crowded. So expect some lag. You can find the SURLs to the other sims here (link).

Of the Fairelands Quest, the first part should be available in a few days, "Part 1 of the Quest opens Monday, 26 April and Part 2 starts Thursday, 29 April."

The Fairelands Quest is Active

One of the attractions of the Fantasy Faire, "The Fairelands Quest," is now up and running. In this game, you'll be taken on an adventure, and get some prizes along the way. Complete it, and you'll get a lot of prizes. In the past, the Quest has been delayed a few days as bugs were worked out. But this year the first part came on schedule. This year, the quest is "The Bard Queen's Garden." The Bard Queen asks some fae to get seeds for her garden. Unfortunately, the fae get distracted. So the Queen has to call on an adventurer for help.

To play the game, you'll need the required HUDs. They can be found at kiosks near the sim landing points, in the case of Fairelands Junction at (110/61/47). To get just the basic game, put 250L in the smaller kiosks. For the deluxe version of the quest, pay 350L in the larger one, which will give you the HUDs, and a Medieval fantasy-themed "Friend of the Fairelands" outfit. Once you buy the game, just find the boxed item in your inventory, add it to your avatar, then click on it. It will then unbox into your inventory. If you want to wear the outfit, you'll have to go somewhere else and unpack it. I found that my DSD Rabbit avatar I was wearing at the time was partially showing through the chest area. So I had to make a new (prim) shirt and made it close to the right color.

To begin the quest, while in the Fantasy Faire area, add the quest HUD, then attach the almanac HUD. You'll need to find the Bard Queen somewhere in Fairelands Junction. Presumably, she'll send you to get the seeds she needs (I haven't found her yet despite searching around the sim for fifteen minutes and got called away). So what are a bunch of seeds going to do against her enemy the Unweaver? Presumably adventurers will start to get their answers tomorrow Thursday April 30 when the second part of the quest opens.

Fairelands Quest is Open

After several days of delays, the Fairelands Quest "The Lair of Lantoris" was finally open. Well, at least the first part. The second part is still being worked on. But most of us will still be figuring out the first for a while.

To take part, purchase the quest HUD. There are a number of places you can find it. The place I got mine is Fairelands Junction (110/185/110). You can get "basic" with just the HUD, or "deluxe" and get an outfit as well.

To get the HUD, just select "add" to it, and the contents will appear in your inventory. Besides the main quest HUD, there's another "Magic" HUD, as well as an attachment for your companion. If you got the Deluxe version, you'll also get men's and women's clothes, boxed of course. I went to a place where I could rezz mine, then returned.

Your first task is the find the Bard Queen. She's in plain sight as one makes their way down the main path toward the Midas sim. After you accept her mission, your next part is to find your companion "Planty." Where could he be? Well, as he's a bookworm, maybe the sim where the LitFest is.

So now you have "Planty." You're now ready to begin the next part of the quest: getting the spellbook and the needed ingredients. Happy Adventuring.

Reader Submitted: "Hilarious TP Error"

Teleporting around is a pretty convenient way to get around Second Life, and when getting between places not connected, sometimes the only way. But sometimes, things go wrong. When Henning Lionheart tried going to Fairelands Junction, he ended up inside one of the mirrors.

From the outside, only his head, and the basket he was holding, showed. "This would be an annoying TP error if it hadn't been so hilariously perfect."
