A Bi-National Tribute

At the Happy Vixen on Monday, there was talk about this week being both Canada Day and America's Independence Day. So the flags of both countries were placed.

A fitting tribute.

Fourth of July Parties At The Sunweavers (And Mieville)

While the Newser was reporting about the Second Life Birthday last week, there was another birthday celebration going on: America's. Several clubs in the Sunweaver community would celebrate, and I also came across one in Mieville.

Independence Day Around Second Life

So what went on during America's Independence Day holiday? In real life, there were parades, barbecues, and fireworks. But what about Second Life? While one 4th of July event of past years wasn't taking place this year, there was still much going on.

See the scenes in Events.

Happy Fourth of July

It's Independence Day in the United States, and once again the Elizabeth Town sim has brought back "Summertown USA." Read more about the place in our 2013 article. Note: not everything from last year is necessarily there this time.

In Relay DAlliez, the Relayers have set up the sim as a Fourth of July celebration, with the four corners of the sim having a different look.

In the Southwest, people can party in the shadow of a Statue of Liberty build.

When I got there, the DJ herself was sporting a Lady Liberty avatar

In the southeast is a build of the Washington Monument

In the northwest of the sim is an aircraft carrier by the dock. Other nations have carriers, but no one else has the number the United States does. This one offers 7Seas fishing and a bumper boat area.

The northeast corner of Relay dAlliez has a DJ booth in the shadow of a Mount Rushmore build, a replica of the famous monument to four American Presidents: Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt.

There were some red, white and blue goodies to be found. I found a red white and blue straw hat.. This girl found some strawberry, creme, and blueberry treats.

Among those there was Gemma Cleanslate, in a red, white, and blue dress.

Have a happy Fourth of July everyone.

Celebrating Mexican Independance Day

At the Instituto Español last night, there was a party celebrating Mexico's Independence Day on Sept 16. People attending, both from the Institute's group and visitors, were passed handheld Mexican flags, and invited to dance. Some people showed up in ethnic fashion for the event, and there was much music to dance to.

The Instituto Español offers lessons in Spanish for Second Life residents, and helps inform about cultural events in Spanish-speaking countries.

Places to Go on July 4rth

There's a lot to see and do on this July 4rth. Tribute City, built on the WW2 Tribute sim at (128, 51, 2518), has been holding Independence Day-themed events. They're the most publicized place, but by all means not the only one. Areo Pines Park also has it's own event today and for the rest of the week at Equus (16, 231, 22). Later tonight, the newly reopened Raised Tail Resort will be having it's own 4rth of July Beach party tonight at 6PM at Purrfection Estates (249, 61, 22).

If you want to celebrate by taking part in a WW2 themed combat game, head to the New Bastogne sim, join the group, read the rules, choose a side, get the gear, and after taking a moment to get the hang of the controls head out into the combat zone and run your flag up the poles to claim territory.

For places in Second Life with a patriotic look, one is SummerTown USA. But another was made not by an American but a Frenchman.  At Le Dome (36, 111, 21) is the Black Hills Forest, where you can see replicas of Mount Rushmore and the Statue of Liberty.

Happy Fourth of July.

SummerTown USA

There's quite a bit to do on the Fourth of July, from the events all day at Tribute City and Areo Pines, and the beach party tonight at the newly reopened Raised Tail Resort. If you're looking for free decorations, you can get a bunch at the Corner of Revolving Time. For still more decorations, there's a location that really looks Fourth of July: SummerTown USA. While most of the decorations and clothes are for sale, there are some freebies plus there are things to do there.
