Second Life Birthday Starts Today

 

 After weeks of preparation, the Second Life Twenty Third Birthday Celebrations, also known as the SL23B, begins today. There's smaller events such as Meet The Lindens, music concerts, the Yapestry of Time, and of course the exhibits by regular residents, hundreds of them.

 

The main area has forty-one sims, with a separate area for Adult-themed exhibits and one stage for unfiltered music performances, totaling fourteen sims. 

 

Among those with exhibits is the Second Life Newser, in the SLB Beguile sim. Sadly due to real-life, the talented Silvia Ametza whom has done most of our builds and all of them for the past several years was not able to do one this year. So as a backup plan, the office from the SL9B is back, with a few touches.

The Opening Ceremony, with Philip Linden speaking, will be from 1 to 2 PM at the Orpheum Theater, with three suggested teleport locations:

Following Philip's speech will be several music events, with Merryjest Starchild and dancers performing the first one.

Bellisseria Birthday Celebrations Begin Today, Speech By Patch Linden 1PM SL Time

 

 

Truly, there is no better place for it. The Fairgrounds have always had that unmistakable Bellisserian energy, where community, curiosity, and just a hint of delightful absurdity all mingle. For one week, that energy will be turned all the way up.

The festivities officially begin on April 14th at 1:00 PM SLT with opening remarks from Patch Linden. If you’ve ever heard one of Patch’s speeches, you already know they carry a rare mix of warmth, insight, and (often) surprise . Then, without missing a beat, we pivot straight into celebration mode with our opening DJ. I confidently predict a party worth rearranging your schedule for.

Throughout the week, the ever-adventurous Scarlett Amethyst will lead guided tours across the continent using a variety of transport; each offering a different lens through which to experience Bellisseria’s charm. Whether cruising along coastal waterways, rolling through scenic routes, or taking to the skies, these tours are more than just journeys – they’re curated experiences. Of course, being who we are, each comes with its own collectible stamp. If there is one thing the BBB understands deeply, it is the quiet thrill of the hunt!

This year’s celebration brings a constellation of new passport stamps to collect. Some of your favorite Moles will be in attendance, each offering their own unique mark, alongside stamps from Bellisserian Ambassadors, BBB volunteers, event stamps scattered across the fairgrounds, and yes – even one from Patch himself.

There is something undeniably satisfying about watching your collection grow, each stamp a moment captured – a memory you can hold onto long after the tents come down.

If you’re feeling a bit more ambitious, or competitive, there will be opportunities to put your skills to the test. Special driving, boating, and flying challenges will be available throughout the week for those who want to prove they’ve mastered the Bellisserian lifestyle. Whether you glide through effortlessly or provide entertainment for onlookers, you’ll be in good company.

Then there is something particularly meaningful waiting at the end of this energetic week. On April 20th, we will gather for a ceremony that is, in its way, at the heart of what we do. Led by Abnor Mole, we will officially welcome our newest Ambassadors. If you’ve never attended one of these ceremonies, let me tell you – they matter. Bellisseria reaches outward. Community becomes a little more intentional and enduring. That, I think, is what makes this entire celebration so special.

Yes, it will be wacky. There will be laughter, missed turns, probably a few spectacular crashes, and more than a few “wait, where did everyone go?” moments. But underneath all that is something steady and real; a community that continues to show up for one another, year after year, in ways both grand and quietly meaningful.

So come for the party. Come for the stamps. Come for the tours, the challenges, and the delightful unpredictability of it all. But stay for that feeling – the one that reminds you exactly why Bellisseria feels like home.

Temple Burn, Day 2 of the LW13B

 Saturday October 22 was quite a day, with the Burning of the Man at Burn2, and the Luskwood and Trotsdale communities celebrating their anniversaries, their 13th and 5th respectively. But this isn't the end of the fun in these places. The fun continues today as Burn2 holds their Temple Burn and Luskwood holds a couple more events for their anniversary or LW13B.

The Temple Burn will take place twice, at 12 Noon and 6PM respectively, taking place in the southeast corner of the Black Rock sim. At Luskwood, from 2-3:30PM, Alazarin Mondrian will be doing a live music performance at the platform that continues to be called the LW10B build at Perry (126/211/3351)  From 6PM to 7PM, Frogg Marlowe will be performing at the Perry Amphitheatre at Perry (24/212/25). It's possible there may be some last minute additions, so keep an eye on Luskwood's news page.

SL13B Celebrations Go Out With a Bang

Sunday June 26 was the last day of the Second Life Thirteenth Birthday, or SL13B, celebrations, and all day there were events, mostly at the music stages, such as "Stage Left" shown here.

Over the weekend, a number of live musicians and DJs performed, including DJ Tantari here at the Tree Stage.

And of course one could see the many exhibits, such as this one set up by the National Space Society.

There was unfortunately a bit of sadness with the celebrating. Bewell Ormega (Todd J. Retzlaff), had passed away at age 50. He had helped with the fireworks at the SLB for five years. So in his honor at Noon SL time, there was a special fireworks show in his honor at the Cake Stage, the pyrotechnical displays of this year being his last.

And as the last hour of the celebration came, only one stage would have a performance, the Cake Stage.

Dozens of avatars gathered at the meeting point of the four sims making up the stage, "Friends do not let friends crash alone."

Byach Littlething was the DJ for this last hour while more fireworks shot off around everyone, with a variety of avatars, and a few noteable personalities among run-of-the-mill residents.

Mikati Slade, the builder of the Cake, was among those partying, as was Golan Elde.

At one point, Marianne McCann shouted, "If I may be so bold but to say, three cheers to our baker, Mikati, for the amazing cake stage!" "Hip-hip HOOOORAAAAAY MIKATI!" "Yep, she really takes the cake." "She's outdone herself this time! I adore cake stage!" "" "LOVE my Cake Hat!" "Everyone is so proud of you Mikati for all of your hard work."

"Happy Birthday, Second Life! 13 years... Simply incredible!" "Come back next year!"

And so, the official events of the SL13B are over, But this isn't quite the end. The exhibits are not scheduled to come down until July 3rd. But some exhibitors take them down a day or two or three before that, so those who were waiting to avoid the lag to see them better not wait. And there will likely be a few unofficial events, including the blowing up of the Cake Stage.

"See you next week when we blow up the cake!!!"

The SL13B Opens

At 12 Noon yesterday, the Second Life Thirteenth Birthday celebrations officially opened to the general public. And with that, hundreds of residents descended on the seventeen sims. This included the SL Newser's exhibit in SL13B Electrify (40/10/20).

Next door, the Second Life Coast Guard's exhibit also got some attention. Several of the sailors and officers were around.

At the stages, various DJs and live singers performed for the audiences.

At the Auditorium at 5PM SL time, Saffia Widdershins interviewed Zander Greeme of the Fantasy Faire.

There were a few just outside the building panning in and listening from there, but most sat in the ausience.

The SL13B continues tomorrow and all week until next Sunday. Don't forget to stop by.

Second Life Thirteenth Birthday Celebrations Start Today

It's been weeks since the preparations began, and this is the day it all begins. The Second Life Thirteenth Birthday Celebrations start today at 12 Noon SL time (3PM EST). While one can TP anywhere onto the grounds, by heading to the official entrance at SL13B Impressive (156/154/118) and making one's way down, one can pick up a list of landmarks, and a few goodies such as fancy glasses for the event.

And once you've made your way down, there's seventeen sims of exhibits and stages to explore and enjoy events in.

There was some last-minute work being done on the Cake Stage, but it will be ready come heck or high water.

There are many dozens of exhibits around, representing places such as Bay City, and repeat favorite builders such as Loki Elliot.

And while you're there, don't forget the Second Life Newser's own exhibit at SL13B Electrify (40/10/20).

The 2016 Relay For Life of Second Life Season will reach the halfway point officially this weekend, May 14 to May 15, 2016. The weekend will feature two days of live performers, djs, tribute concert, fundraising, and events.  All this from the many Relay For Life of Second Life teams.  Located on three unique sims with one large community stage!  Official 2016 Halfway There Team Fundraising Awards will be handed out on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at a special opening ceremony. The 2016 Halfway There Opening Ceremony will begin at 9 am slt and feature the 2016 Relay For Life of Second Life steering committee as well as past chairs.  Teams will have fundraising areas open daily.
