Mobile Viewer Now Avaiable to Premium, Premium-Plus Residents, In "Early Beta"

A couple days ago on the evening of Tuesday June 25, Linden Lab announced it was making it's mobile viewer open to all Premium and Premium-Plus accounts of Second Life. The Lab would say the viewer is in "early beta."

We’re excited to announce the next important milestone in the availability of the all-new official Second Life Mobile app. Effective today, we’re now opening up early beta access to all active Premium and Premium Plus members!

The Second Life app brings all the richness and beauty of the virtual world to both mobile phones and tablets. Now you can stay connected and socialize with your friends and communities – anytime, anywhere. Explore a diverse universe of places while on the go and even style your avatar – all from the palm of your hand.

The mobile app can be downloaded through this here, which will take you to the App Store: https://www.secondlife.com/mobile

As of the writing of this article, there are 15 reviews, mostly very good or very poor, which even out to a rating of 3.3 out of 5. Of the poor ratings, the majority stated they couldn't log in.

The Lab would go on to say that a number of communities and other public places would be launching launch parties for the mobile viewer. This includes Caledon, Bay City, the Bellisserian Bureau of Bureaucracy, the Nature Collective, Virtual Ability, and others. The Lab is still open to more holding events, those interested invited to fill out the form (here).

Early Christmas Gift For Sunweaver Residents

For the residents of the land the Newser office makes it's land on, they got an early Christmas present. Landlady and community leader Rita Mariner gave those in her sims a month's payment on their rent.

Sunnies: For those of you who rent from me, I have repeated last year's gift.  I have gone around the sims and 'gifted" you all a free months rent.  I am pretty sure I got everyone, but if you check and I missed you, let me know.

Thank you Rita and Merry Christmas,

Bixyl Shuftan

Reader Submitted: Luskwood's Early Days

During Luskwood's anniversary celebrations on Saturday October 17, Michi Lumin shared this picture of the very earliest days of the Luskwood Community. Yes, there was a time before furred avatars in Lusk, and it was up to people like them to develop them and refine their techniques.

Little would they know of what would follow as they would essentially invent the process how furred avatars would be sold and be not only the first of many Furry communities, but the oldest active social spot in Second Life of any genre.

Eye On The Blog: "Tiki-astik Party," Early Access to SL12B Avatar, For Premium Members

In their latest post on the official blog, Linden Lab announced a special party just for Premium members. The party takes place for one hour today, during which time those attending will be able to get access to the special Second Life Birthday avatar for this year.

Splish Splash - it’s a Tiki Beach Bash!

Premium members - this one is just for you, so be sure to save the date! We’ve lit the tiki torches and brushed up on our fruity drink-mixing skills to host a casual gathering with the added bonus of early access to our Official Second Life 12th Birthday commemorative avatar.

That’s right - come to the SL12B Premium Meetup on Thursday June 11th from 10:30 to 11:30 AM SLT, hang out with us, and be one of the first to glimpse and grab the celebratory 12th anniversary avatar. The nature of this particular avatar required us to select a remote island for our gathering as well as implement a strict quarantine on the subject, so you’re going to have to drop by our tropical jungle destination to find out what it is.

Linden Lab stated the avatar kiosk will remain up for Premium members to get the avatar from until Midnight SL time on Friday June 12, "even if you can’t come to the Tiki party, you can still get early access to the avatar." They also stated, "here will be more fun for all members to enjoy throughout the month."

It was just a few days ago in which the Lab announced an increase in the number of groups residents can join for Premium accounts only. It seems they're picking up the pace in which they offer perks for Premiums.

One can read the post in it's entirety: here.

Second Life Historical Museum

Second Life is about ten and a half years old, longer if one counts its beta days. Most of us came on at a later date. So how can we see Second Life as it was way back when? One way to get a peek at these early days is the Second Life Historical Museum. Becky Shamen found out about the place, and gave it a look.
