Cartoon of the Day: "Club Cutlass Meets Operation Petticoat"
From the pirate party last night, someone (probably Shockwave Yarreach) painted the hull of the steampunk airship Club Cutlass into something resembling the submarine from "Operation Petticoat." Unlike the movie, however, there was no need to ask the girls for their undergarments and jettison them out the torpedo tubes.

Press Release: Paint Second Life Purple
The
2016 Relay For Life of Second Life campaign is kicking off on
March 6th 2016 and to prepare for this the Relay For Life
volunteers will be painting the Second Life Grid Purple. This
is a community effort to raise awareness throughout Second
Life about Relay For Life and you are invited to join us on
February 28, 2016 from 1 - 6 pm SLT for our kick off party!
Since
2004, Relay For Life has been growing through the virtual
worlds and raising money for the American Cancer Society. In
the past 12 years, this signature fundraiser has raised over
2.5 million USD leading to assistance globally in funding
programs and global partnerships in the fight against cancer.
The
announcement to the Second Life grid that Relay For Life is
about to start comes from the launch of our Paint SL Purple
campaign that begins on February 28th. Sims, businesses,
communities and a flood of volunteers will celebrate the power
of HOPE by turning the entire grid purple for 7 days. This
will be a good opportunity to visit with new survivors,
caregivers, volunteers and other who might not know about our
mission and get the excitement of our journey in the forefront
of the minds of all of Second Life.

"Paint Second Life Purple"
This week, the Relay for Life is having it's "Paint SL Purple."
"Relay for Life for Second Life" will again present "Paint SL Purple" on May 12-20, 2012. Based on the American Cancer Society's Paint the Town Purple event, Paint SL Purple is the annual event that helps make those around the SL grid aware of Relay For Life and its mission. A paint bucket of purple textures and items will be available. A sky dome with a purple theme will be available during this week for teams to use for fundraising events and parties. Listening in to the Relay chat, I heard of two places that were given the purple treatment. One was at the Lucid Dreams sim by Cy Whitfield, "Ok - I have just put down the textured purple prims on my club land. I can do the same for anyone else if you like - for free. If you want to see what I have done, come have a look: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Lucid%20Dreams/17/194/22 ." And teleporting over, the beach sands were a deep purple, the surf licking at the colored grains.
The second place I heard of was at the Yia Yuto sim by Polenth Yue, "I'm done purpling! I couldn't do every last inch, so I made a really giant purple mushroom to make up for it. http://slurl.com/secondlife/Yia%20Yuto/128/127/36 ." Heading over, the place reminded me of a fantasy fairyland, with it's huge purplish mushrooms towering in the air. A notecard given to me automatically told me this was a community region, and I saw a couple others in a rainbow puddle in the middle of the forest of fungi.

"The SL Grid is Turning Purple!"
From May 7 to May 13 the Second Life grid will be turning purple!
Thousands of Second Life residents will be painting their stores and houses purple, wearing purple clothes, purple hair, even purple skin, in order to show their support for the Relay For Life of Second Life and to spread a purple Message of Hope.
Relay For Life® is the signature fundraiser of the American Cancer Society. Relay For Life of Second Life (RFL of SL) is an annual activity that takes place in Second Life® in July each year. Volunteers form or join teams to have fun while fundraising and raising awareness from mid-March through mid-July. In July teams build campsites and walk a track, just like in a real world Relay.

Bailey Dazy, 2011 Relay For Life Special Events Chair and ‘Paint SL Purple’ lead, explains: ‘In 2008, a real life Relay in the United States began holding an event called Paint the Town Purple in support of their local Relay.
‘During the American Cancer Society summit in 2008, Stingray9798 Raymaker (American Cancer Society representative in Second Life) and Trader1 Whiplash (then the Mission Chair for Relay For Life of Second Life) heard about the real life event and discussed how this concept could work in Second Life, and very enthusiastically brought the idea back with them and introduced it to the Relay For Life committee.
‘The rest is history ... in 2009 ‘Paint SL Purple’ was developed and introduced to the Second Life community as a one-day event.
‘But, given the creativity and wonderful things that can be done in Second Life, we came to realize that one day was not enough and that it was over too quickly. In 2010 we extended the event to a full week.
‘We’re keeping the tradition going in 2011 with another week filled with Purple Pride from May 7 to May 13 to show Second Life what we Relay for!’

e’re nearly halfway there!
‘Paint SL Purple’ week culminates in the halfway point between the start of fundraising and the main Relay event.
After nearly two months of fundraising, and with another two months to go, 2011 Event Chair MamaP Beerbaum reports that SL relayers have already raised an awesome US$125,650 -- over half the total amount raised last year!
To mark the halfway point there will be a Halfway There Fair on May 14-15 where relayers can relax and celebrate before embarking on another two months of fundraising, culminating in Relay weekend on July 16-17.
All Second Life residents are invited to show their support for Relay For Life by turning their space or their avatar purple on May 7.
