Club Fur in InWorldz

While exploring around InWorldz, I came across one notable build. Alynna Vixen has been among the residents of Second Life making accounts in this virtual world. But she did more than just that. She built a satellite location for Club Fur in InWorldz's Amber sim.

The club is not a perfect copy. Some of the finer features in the Second Life club are not there. And more obvious it's a double-copy with one on top of the other. And there was no music playing. There was no one else around, or any sign of people coming here.

Club Fur is Second Life's oldest Furry club, and possibly the oldest club still around. It was in Furnation Prime until the sim closed, after which it spent a few years in Kitsuhana before it's old home sim reopened and the club once again moved.

Club Fur InWorldz is at Amber (230, 148, 1927)

On another note, Someone mentioned on Facebook a list of the number of active residents of the alternative virtual worlds to Second Life. InWorldz had certainly benefited from the ToS controversy in Second Life, having an active population of about nine thousand. While twice that of Avination, which it was once roughly equal in number's it's still far short of Second Life's.

Winter Wardhani wrote on her blog while she liked exploring, what kept her in virtual worlds the most was the people, and without them there wasn't much reason to stick around. Thanks to Tuna Oddfellow's Odd Ball, and others such as the Relay for Life, there is some additional activity in this alternative virtual world. But will it be enough for places like Club Fur InWorldz to be more than just backup locations, sitting empty?

SL Speed Limit 450 MPH!

Drag Racing Rocks Second Life With Blinding Speeds! Only the rules limit speeds to 450 MPH, Second Life (SL) drag racers are burning rubber and making tracks! Yes they CAN get out of Denver baby! Woooooooosh!

SL hockey legend, Antonia Foggarty, does SL wrestling and SL drag racing. She invited me to her motorsports factory to view her newest creations, a pair of steps-on trucks with Hemi-modified engines (Picture 1). Sweet!

In Picture 2, Antonia models her pro-sports driver outfit in front of a cherry Plymouth dragster titled Sox and Martin. She explained that it's quite unusual to put Ford parts in a GM car! Oh really!

At Antonia's invitation, I headed out to the drag strip to catch some car thrills. Everyone was just wonderful, excited that I was writing this story! Dragstrip announcer MB Robonaught even made an official proclamation to the audience, announcing my iReporter presence! Hurray!

Racer Rocky Belavidorico explains, "SL Drag racing is a great stay at home hobby .. modifying the cars... the competition is excellent and there are many great racers."

Picture 3 is a burn out, sending up plumes of smoke as drivers heat up their tires to stick to the road. At the pre-start countdown, we saw a very convincing deterrent to jumping the gun! Then it's GO TIME! Pedal to the metal baby! In a heartbeat POOF, the cars are gone! But they come back right quick, because each race is best 2 out of 3 heats.

How they reach 450 MPH in under 250 meters boggles the mind! Real world dragsters reach up to 350 MPH in 1000 meter races. That means SL dragsters accelerate at least 4X as fast!

Just before driving out on the track SeVeN VanDouser told me, "To me it's one of the most interactive drag racing simulations... having done it in real life and now only in the SL world, it keeps the dream alive." Awesome!

One thing's for sure... Second Life AIN'T no DRAG! ;-)

The amazing Antonia Foggarty appears in my hockey report: Click Here to read.

Tron Legacy Adventure

Although it did mediocre at the box office, the 1980's movie Tron became a cult classic among computer nuts. Even some Second Life terms like "grid" and "rez" come from the movie. Recently, it's sequel "Tron Legacy" has finally hit the theaters. And inevitably someone was inspired to bring the action to Second Life. Grey Lupindo reports from the Vixens Isle sim, where people can race lightcycles and engage in games from the movie.
