Interview With Cynthia Farshore.

In a community filled with foxes, wolves, bunnies, and felines, someone in a goat avatar is going to stand out. But Cynthia Farshore is more than just that to the Sunweavers, and Caledon where she has been appearing more. Besides being a sim owner, she's an accomplished builder, DJ, and noted member of the Sunbeamer Relay for Life Team. Deaflegacy recently interviewed her, and Cynthia had a number of things to say about her nine years in Second Life.

Peace Valley Pet Cemetery

Deaflegacy Darkbloom recently stopped by the Peace Valley Pet Cemetery. A place for residents to set up memorials for their pets in real life which have passed away, Deaflegacy was impressed with how well the place was well done, from the placement of the trees to the church setting.

We've been so busy writing about Second Life, well, it took the return of one of our founding writers to update our Crew Page. Besides Grey Lupindo out of the hiatus list, Deaflegacy Darkbloom now has her (overdue) entry among the staff.

Gia Smith And The Sci-Fi Music Festival

Sunday was the last day of the Second Life Science-Fiction Convention. Among those dropping by was Second Life Newser's Deaflegacy Darkbloom, whom came across an event, the Sci-Fi Music Festival. While there, she talked to one of the DJs there, Gia Smith.

Crew Meeting

Last week at Noon at the SL Newser office in HV Community was the Newser crew meeting. Attending were Nydia Tungsten, Gemma Cleanslate, Wesley Regenbogen, Deaflegacy Darkbloom, and myself, Bixyl Shuftan. ShadowRene Ivanoa was also there.

Gemma was a bit dressed up at the meeting as she had somewhere to go just afterwards. Among the things we talked about was the goahead for the new section in the paper, and the photo contest.

Lupercalia at Roma

On the weekend of February 21 and 22, the Roma historical roleplay community held their Lupercalia festival. For those who don't know, it was a Roman predecessor to Valentines Day, though very different from it's modern replacement. The festival included a number of events from horse racing to dances. But it began with a recreation of the ancient Roman ritual for the holiday. Deaflegacy was there, and wrote about it.

Kushi Vyper's Fundraiser For The Tibetan Education Fund

When the designer for Kushi Vyper's texture store's website and HUD was suddenly offlined, she had to not only look for new talent to replace him, but pay for the tasks as well. As part of the staff of a charity in real life, the Tibetan Education Fund, she had the idea. She and her partner are planning a fundraiser with all money going over the cost of her projects going to the charity. Deaflegacy Darkbloom talked to them, and wrote about the upcoming event.

Crew Meeting

 February 6 was the day of the monthly crew meeting for the Second Life Newser team. Attending were Becky "Sha" Shamen, Gemma Cleanslate, Deaflegacy Darkbloom, Nydia Tungsten, Wesley Regenbogen (not in the picture), and myself. The meeting took place at the Newser office in HV Community.

We discussed a number of topics, such as Valentines Day, Superbowl Fifty, and the "One Billion Rising" demonstration. Gemma had volunteered to be a greeter at the last event, showing off her shirt.

Valentines Day At The Isle of View

Friday February 14 was the "Hug a Linden/Dunk a Linden" event at the recently renovated Isle of View. Among those there was Deaflegacy Darkbloom. Darkbloom took a few pictures and observations of the event, and it was more than just residents tossing a few balls at Lindens, or giving them hugs, but residents coming together for love.

Cyber Nice Carnival 2016

On Saturday January 30th at 11AM SL time, The Cyber Carnival took place in the Moya sim. Done in cooperation with Virtual Ability, and the real-life the Office of Tourism and Congress of Nice, France, the event was an extension of the real-life Carnival in the city. Deaflegacy Darkbloom, our newest writer, was there as Moya Janus filmed the event, to be shown on screens at it's real-life counterpart.

Reader Submitted: Virtual Ability - Being There For Each Other

A group created by three people, this group now has over 1,000 members. It is a group dedicated for people with multiple disabilities. They sought out clear communication and place that have no barriers. Virtual Ability provides all that and more.

Strangers meeting at the Virtual Ability place would become friends, and go remarkable ways. Hiking. Fishing. Campfire Hour. Show and Tell. You name it. There are many opportunities for people right here at Virtual Ability and I can't possibly find a way to describe the wonder ways of the group itself. I met Gentle Heron about five months ago and the first impression was, “Wow, Gentle Heron really know what is going on.” I would become a member of Virtual Ability and I can tell you that they go out of their ways in helping people with multiple disabilities. I myself am deaf and almost blind. It is true that I can see enough to see what's going on on Second Life. But I can see more than just that. I can see good friends. I can see clear communication between the group members. I can even see the understanding to a degree. It's definitely a wonder. I cannot think of anything bad to say about Virtual Ability because all I can think of is the good things.

They are not counselors. They are good friends. To some, they are best friends. Being there for people with disabilities, that's what it is all about. If you want to know more about the Virtual Ability, here is the link: http://www.virtualability.org/.

Crew Meeting

 On Saturday January 9 at Noon, the Newser crew had it's monthly meeting at it's office in HV Community. Those present were Gemma Cleanslate, Nydia Tungsten, FoxytheJamie, myself (Bixyl Shuftan) and a guest, Deaflegacy Darkbloom. With the Christmas season behind us, we talked about topics we could write about this month with no major events for the next few weeks.

Jamie was still wearing the avatar he recently did a review on. Looks like it got deputized for a little police action at a sim he's been hanging out at.
