Giant House at Oxygen

Most longtime residents whom have been around for over a decade remember the "Greenies" sim. The place was only two rooms, but was built at such a huge scale that normal-sized avatars looked mouselike in comparison, with small green aliens around the place in whimsical situations. Sadly in 2010, the sim was closed. Recently, there was a location that gave residents a similar experience, Oxygen owned by Justice Vought at the River sim. Gemma Cleanslate recently went there, and had a look around.

Two Giant Places. Happiness Giant Rooms and Simpsons Giant Kitchen

For fans of the classic "Greenies Home" which gave players a mouse-sized perspective of a sim-sized family room and kitchen, there are a couple builds the Newser recently found out about which give visitors a similar point of view. One is a double set of giant rooms in the Happiness sim, one taking a little effort to find. The other in Athen Shire is a tribute to "The Simpsons," with a huge build of their kitchen. Unfortunately, word has it the second build won't be around for very long.

Grey Nacht's Greenie Tribute

One of the best known sims from Second Life's earlier days was "Greenies." This was a sim that put residents in a mouse-sized perspective of a giant family room and kitchen that took up the entire sim, which was being explored by tiny mischievous green aliens known as the "Greenies." Rezzable, the creators of the sim, would eventually make a number of spinnoff sims, but would later close them down. Sadly, Rezzable made the decision to close the sim in June 2010. But longtime residents have fond memories of the little green aliens, and there have been tributes over the years. Gemma Cleanslate was on hand to see one such tribute by her friend Grey Nacht.

Greenies Tribute at LEA

What a thrill! For those who knew and loved the Greenies in Second Life, you will get a kick out of this installation in LEA for sure! For those who do not, a short history. The Rezzable 3D set it up for a band of aliens to invade the Second life sims and move into a home here . The home was huge in size and the tiny  Greenies lived behind hidden doors and walls and in the furniture.  Exploring the house and their doings was so much fun. There was even 7seas fishing in the kitchen sink. 

 

After a few years the home was closed in 2010 and the Greenies disappeared back into space, leaving many sad people around the sims. Many of us have Greenie avatars that we pull out once in a while for an event. 

 

Now, there is a re-creation , a tribute, to the Greenies home in LEA 23. It is massive in size and you can rezz a bike there to roam the areas. One inhabitant I did not see was the cat. I will have to look again.  Don’t miss any  nooks and cranies where the greenies hide. When no human is in the house, of course, they roam at will, setting up games, watching tv, using the computer and more. I looked in the kitchen sink and had nostalgia for a fishing tournament.

From "Sammy Bridges," a machinima on the classic "Greenies" sim, which closed down in 2010. The sim gave the illusion of the avatars shrunk to mouse-size when in fact the kitchen was made super-big.

Using the Loo - A Fisherman's Tribute to the Greenies

The inventiveness of the fisher folk of SL never ceases to amaze me. Seven Seas fishing is great fun and the contests even more fun as the banter goes on among the fishers. I attended a fishing contest in Fish Soup Sim at Boldee Gardens. It was my first time there.

I found my self fishing in the private toilet bowl in the private loo! There were fish in the toilet and the sink. Some fishers took a chance and went swimming in the toilet. I heard some flushes while I was there too. The toilet paper roll is where we could keep track of the leading fishers. In a fishing contest you if you win you get some money and you also get a trophy if you are a leader . Of course, here the trophy is a miniature toilet!

The loser has to stay behind and clean up, but gets a crappy last place trophy: a plunger with poo!

Everyone had a crappy time!

Bold Baddingham and Deesue Parks created this fantastic place at the time the Greenies left SL to commemorate their loss. They are getting ready to move soon to a new sim and I will be waiting to see their new creation!

Greenies Home Closes, Moves to OpenSim

On Wednesday June 23rd, Second Life bade goodbye to one of it's classic sims, Greenies Home. The last of the sims owned by Rezzable to stay in the Metaverse as others closed down and moved to Opensim, last week the decision was made, "it is time for the Greenies to come home." And so, visitors dropped in for final events, and to give the little green fellows one last look before they left.
