Weekly Fishing Contest at Tiny Oasis in Sunweaver Estates

While the Sunweaver lands are best known to being home to a (mostly) furry community, there is one spot in the southwest corner of Sunweaver Space that's more tiny oriented: the Tiny Oasis. Owned by Skye Tracer, the place has two events a week. One is the Tuesday night dance. The other is a fishing contest every Wednesday. The event is hosted by Kitty Huang (SuperGirl1970 Carver).

With a few known regulars from Raglan Shire, the fishing can be whimsical, with various tiny-themed gestures played throughout the event. It's done using 7Seas equipment and contest board, with the current leaders of the event shown for all to see. There's at least two rounds per event. The contests have been going on for over a year, with Kitty only unable to run it twice.

I have yet to sit in on a contest, though have seen it from a distance. By the time I get there, it's pretty much wrapped up, with the fishers doing the tiny riverdance. By some coincidence, the radio stream was playing, "So Long And Thanks For All The Fish."

"Ni ni all. See ya next Wed."

Cartoon of the Day: Henry's Bait Obsession

Picture from Gemma Cleanslate. How the dog ended up on the 7Seas bait booth is unknown. But considering how many real life canines seem to have an attraction for anything that really reeks for the noses of those on two legs, it didn't take long to think what the reason could be.

Games in Second Life: Linden Realms and 7Seas

Recently Linden Lab opened a "Gaming Island" to demonstrate how "skill games" are played. Gemma Cleanslate does some gaming in Second Life, but she had little interest in the kind the new Linden area highlights. Her two favorites are Linden Realms and a longtime fishing game in Second Life: 7Seas. She decided to write about them to describe what their attraction is.

Fishing Contest at the SS Galaxy

Tuesday afternoon at 3PM SL time was the last of the weekly fishing contests at the SS Galaxy. With the announcement of it's closing on Sunday, there was quite a large crowd with some noted personalities such as Holocluck Henly, Cuddly Waffle, and SL Newser's own Gemma Cleanslate. Cuddly commented, "I rented a cabin here once many years ago... still on my old avatar so at least 5 years ago... me and my ginger cat lived here for a bit."

The winner of the contest was Sveronica30 Resident. Second place went to Morning Devin, and third went to Frurry Fluno. S.i.d. (sidonie.carlberg) joked "I think Cuddly manipulated my bait."

DBDigital Epsilon, the ship's Director, wouldn't say much more to add to his statement about the ship closing. He did say that the ship would close "unless (Linden Lab) can do something. And I will say it has nothing to do with health issues or financial reasons." What that something was, he wouldn't say.

Second Life Newser is continuing to investigate the matter.

Pictures of the Fall Fishing Festival

Last weekend was the twice a year fishing festival by the makers of the popular 7Seas fishing game. The event was fairly straightforward, fish, fish, and fish some more. But there was no shortage of builds. So Gemma, along with Bixyl Shuftan, took a number of pictures.

What Happened to 7Seas' Meissa Thorne?

With the arrival of Ebbe Linden, there's been much hope that finally things will change for the better in Second Life. But on occasion, one still hear tales of Linden Lab's heavy-handedness. Recently, Second Life Newser heard tales about one of the 7Seas fishing game team, Meissa Thorne, getting banned from the grid. Bixyl Shuftan investigated, and eventually talked to Meissa's teammate Jen Shikami for answers.

Fishiversary

Gemma Cleanslate is an avid fisher, taking part in numerous 7Seas fishing games. So hearing about their biannual event "Fishiversary," she was sure to drop by. She took a number of pictures of the wild and wacky goings on there as the fishers went after the "feesh."

Fishiversary Pictures

This weekend was the twice a year Fishiversary event, sponsored by 7Seas. There were parties to be at, prizes to get, and plenty of scenery. There were numerous exhibits in the sims for the event. Gemma Cleanslate, the Newser's fishing fan, dropped by with her camera and got a number of screenshots of the various places in this angler's paradise.

Fishiversary

Every spring, the 7Seas Fishing Game has a full weekend of fun fishing in three sims. It is called Fishiversary and there is great anticipation among the fishing community for weeks beforehand.  It will be open from Friday May 3 through Monday May 6. Owners of fishing sites all over SL and some individuals with "fishy business" create little islands where they place custom fishing items for catching. The catches range from special wearable fish, rods, boats, avatars, apparel, to gift certificates.

The little isles are always worth seeing. Meissa Thorne is building a special center on Osmium region where the 7seas owners, Seven and Jen Shikami will place special gifts.  Parties and contests take place on that main island and there are always wonderful prizes such as bait, which is coveted.  Fishers can rezz a boat there and take off to the other sims and fish for all kinds of magical customs they have created for us.

Whether you are a fisher or not it would still be a great place to visit just to see the builds in the regions. If you are a fisher this is a great time to fill your inventory with special items. Hope to see you there. I am placing a slurl here that will work beginning Friday morning!

The Corner of Revolving Time Celebrates

Gemma Cleanslate reports on one of her favorite hangouts, the Corner of Revolving Time. The place has long been noted for it's fishing contests and special freebies every holiday. More recently, the prizes for fishing have gotten bigger, and a weekly raffle is offering big prizes. The place is certainly worth a look.

Fishiversary 2012

It is that time again; 7seas Fishiversary 2012 is open! This is the 4th anniversary of 7seas fishing and the owners & designers, Jen Shikami, Seven Shikami and Meissa Thorne have set new customs of their own on their Party Island in Osmium. They, as well as 7Seas sass, will be hosting many fishing contests during the weekend and holding live DJ parties there on Sunday.

Twenty four of the designers of custom fishing items: rods, fish, wearable items such as shirts, hats and more, have set out their little islands in the sims of Ruthenium and Iridium. The items are all free to catch ( with baited rods) and many fishers will spend the whole weekend in these three sims looking for these special items. It is a great fun weekend.

I went to a very busy contest on Friday morning. Almost 40 fishers participated in 15 minute contests with bait going to the the top 10 leaders and a special prize for 1st and 5th place. If you have time and are not a fisher you can come take a look at the builds. If you start from the following LM you can rezz a boat and take a ride through the three sims. The cute builds are worth seeing and so are some of the fishers!

Fall Fishing Festival

It is that time of year. Everything happens on the same weekend and you wish you had bilocation. With everything else going on it is also time to sit and fish!

7Seas Fishing sponsors a wonderful three sim fishing event twice a year. Fishiversery in the spring and Fall Fishing Festival in November. All the builders of anything related to fishing, or not, created catches that draws fishers who just sit around and catch, filling up their inventories with goodies that may not get sorted by spring. It was great fun.

Many builders had little islands or shacks or quaint builds in the three sims and there was constant fishing going on. It was fun to park yourself in the middle of a group of servers and catch from many builders at the same time. There was comfortable lounging areas on their builds, or one could rezz a boat and move around the sims.

There were parties and contests going on. On Saturday from 4:00-10:00 PM SL time, 7Seas donated any money for purchase of bait to the “Child's Play“ charity. This charity supplies toys and games to children's hospitals. There was also an auction to benefit the Child's Play. At last look they had collected over $1000+ for the charity.

Seven Shikami and Meissa Thorne, the creators and owners of 7Seas Fishing are to be congratulated for hosting this event. They have the support of all the fishers in SL. Cudos also to the builders on the sims who created wonderful fishing places and really great catches. The last picture shows some of the booty I was able to catch. Thanks!! Can't wait til spring!

Fishiversary 2011

7seas Fishing is celebrating four years in business in SL. They are hosting the Fishiversary again for all fishers. Many creators and fishing hole owners have built some cute and lovely and fun places in the sims and are giving great fishing prizes.

Even for those who do not fish it is a great place to rezz a boat and ride around looking at the various builds in the three sims. You will find the rezzers at the ends of the docks. There will be parties and entertainment Friday , Saturday, and Sunday.

I know I will not keep all the “fish,” which may be anything not fish. But it is great fun looking at them all. The fishers are avid to be there and will move from area to area to catch all the custom fish created just for this yearly event. I caught a bookcase with readable books. I caught a tulip from my favorite hat maker and expected a hat. When I wore it I was enveloped by an enormous tulip for the yard.

Many kudos to all the owners and creators of 7Seas Fishing..Seven Shikami, Jen Shikam, Meissa Thorne, and all those who helped them get this ready for us.

Take a tour of the sims or come to an event at Osmium (111, 111, 22)
