SL Video: "Caledon the Musical"

From Oolon Sputnik on Sept 2008, "Caledon the Musical, in aid of Relay for Life '08, from the Independent State of Caledon and Caledon Studios, Second Life. Raising over L$100,000 in the fight against cancer, the good people of Caledon donated money to be in this machinima.

"In total, in '08, the fine folks of Caledon raised L$3,000,000 for Relay for Life.

"Hopefully this film showcases some of the amazing sims in Caledon and the amazing variety of smashing people. This is filmed at peoples properties and at assorted locations around the steampunk Victorian sims.

"May I just tip my hat, one more time, to the good peoples of Caledon and the Caledon RFL Team '08, without whom this wouldn't have been possible.

"Yes, apologies, some parts of this are a bit rough and ready, but when shooting so many shots with so many avatars one has to take the frame rate that's available at the time. As this was for charity, from every group of shots at least one of each group made it into the final edit. Also, being machinima, it has suffered somewhat from recompression issues during upload to YouTube. Scenes From Caledon's Tenth Anniversary

Last weekend, Caledon, Second Life's largest steampunk community in terms of sims under them, celebrated the tenth anniversary since their founding with a number of events. Second Life Newser was on hand at a few of the events, including on on Friday February 26. So was Cynthia Farshore, who took a few pictures.

 There were a number of people there, including Caledon Vicerine Kamilah Hauptman and Governor Desmond Shang, affectionately known as "The Gov." He got a few lines of praise, "Des promised us Caldeon would still be with us today, and it is!" Though at one point he also got some playful ribbing when one girl snapped a rubber band at his posterior. At another point, he was briefly sent up into high altitude, "Who orbitified meeeee?" Kamilah chuckled, "Who always orbits you?"

Others whom were there included Fuzzball Ortega. There was also a pirate whom talked about once escaping the place with his prisoner, "Actually, I'm her prisoner now. ... She was not exactly resisting her kidnapping. ... I never did get the ransom, or the Haggis McMuffin. It's ok, I decided to keep her." One girl giggled, saying she was glad he made off with the damsel, as the incident let to meeting her own special friend. Then Desmond handed the pirate a letter of marque, "What? Legitimizing me? How perverse. ... I'm a pirate, it's different from privateering." Desmond chuckled, "All the best ones have a few letters of marque in their cabin drawer."

And here's a picture of Cynthia, who sent a number of pictures to the Newser, including the first two of this brief. She told me she and Shockwave Yareach would soon be opening a store in Caledon.

Caledon's Vicerenie Kamilah Hauptman Appears on "Designing Worlds"

One of Caledon's leaders, Vicerenie Kamilah Hauptman, recently made an appearance on the "Designing Worlds" show. She came to discuss AOs and her experiences in making them, and a few other things about Second Life. This includes a little about mermaid AOs, her making one a couple years ago in which the proceeds went to Relay for Life.
