Second Life Coast Guard 20th Anniversary Celebration

 

 This weekend, the Second Life Coast Guard is throwing it's 20th Anniversary celebration.

 

Join the Second Life Coast Guard (SLCG) as they celebrate 20 years of excellence in virtual maritime service, training, and community engagement. This milestone weekend is packed with live entertainment, thrilling demonstrations, a silent auction benefiting Relay For Life, and immersive experiences that showcase the heart and history of one of Second Life’s most respected roleplay organizations. Highlights include boat and air showcases, training center demos, and performances from August 22–24.

Reader Submitted: Remembering Allian Blackwell

 

Earlier this week, the Second Life Coast Guard announced the passing of Allian Blackwell. She was a number of things, a supporter of the Relay for Life, someone's partner, and a Commandant of the SLCG. Jaun Boucher, an officer of the Coast Guard, sent the Newser an article describing who she was and what she did here in Second Life.

Journeys Across the SL14B: Resident Exhibits at Electrify

The Second Life Fourteenth Birthday celebrations have been going on all week. For us reporters, the biggest problem about the exhibits, many showing high skill and creativity, is that there's not enough time to write about them all. So one has to start somewhere. So here's a look at several exhibits of SL14B Electrify, which besides the Second Life Newser has the National Space Society, the Giant Snail Races, the Second Life Coast Guard, and more. Some were just displays, but others were interactive.

The Second Life Coast Guard Museum Opening Ceremony

The Second Life Coast Guard is noted for two things, cleaning up Second Life's waters of "prim litter," and reminding the public of boating safety. Last Saturday February 4, a museum was open to tell a little about the organization's history. But before the official opening, there was a ceremony with several speakers, and a few people given honors. The Second Life Newser was there, and wrote a few details.

Recently, Wesley Regenbogen decided to check up on the Second Life Coast Guard. They a group that patrols the waters of the virtual world, in addition to educating about real-life boating safety. Not just in one place, they have a number of stations around Second Life.

Press Release: Leather and Lace at Cafe Horizons

The Second Life Coast Guard RFL Team is returning for another musical event Thursday, June 18 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM SLT or later if needed. We'll be doing a mix of music this time and I will be spinning the tunes. Please dress civilian or come in theme which is Leather and Lace. We will be holding this event at Cafe Horizons Music and Dance Club. Please come and help us support our SLCG Relay for Life Team and New Horizons. Hope to see you!

Cartoon of the Day: Coast Guard Graduation

Taken at the Second Life Coast Guard graduation on July 28, once the graduates were officially SLCG officers, there was one interesting tradition that followed, one that involved an activity one associates with pirate ships, not Coast Guard cutters.

They were out of chat range, but it's a safe bet there were these kinds of jokes.

Change of Command Ceremony at the SL Coast Guard

The Second Life Coast Guard considers it their mission to help out boaters in the Grid's ocean areas. For several years, the service was led by Sanstrom Laxness. But eventually it was time for a new commander to take over. Last Saturday, the SLCG held their change of command ceremony in which Thorn Blackflag officially assumed command. Second Life Newser was invited to observe the event, and Bixyl Shuftan headed over to get the story.
