Tales From Steelhead: Interview with TotalLunar Eclipse (2011)

As the Steelhead community faces being uprooted from it's home of nine years, both the group and it's friends are looking back at what's happened over the years. Answering a call to send their stories, Franq Blackheart whom once wrote for the Steampunk Herald, sent this 2011 interview of Steelhead's owner, TotalLunar Eclipse. Here, he talks some about the community and land, notably the decision to classify one sim, Steelhead Shanghai, as "Adult."

Steelhead's "Sharknado" Party

Have you heard of the movie "Sharknado?" Even if you didn't, the party last Friday at the Steelhead community was lots of fishy fun. At the harbor of Steelhead Shanghai, the residents gathered to laugh in the face of danger in the form of waterspouts, electric charges, and sharks, sharks, and more sharks. To add to the craziness, there were sharks among the partiers. So how did Steelhead fare from their own "Sharknado?" Did the residents end up with shark sushi, or did they end up on the menu?

Sumo Wrestling at Steelhead

At the Steelhead Estates, the residents are having the their Sakura Festival. Earlier in the week was one of the livelier events of the festival, "Sumo Sunday." Contrary what one might expect, it was not two big bulky guys in loinbelts slamming against one another. Instead, residents chose whatever avatar they liked. Despite a few technical glitches, the event was fun-filled with its share of chuckles.

Thursday 5pm: Poetry Slam - The theme is Sakura blossoms in Winterfell

The Poetry Slam at der Hut des Jaeger is held every week (barring holidays and emergences) on Thursday Evenings, 5:00 SLT

Generally we gather at 5:00 pm SLT, and usually manage to have the first recitation by 5:30. Readings continue until we run out of material, or until the music at Mama Valdy's begins at 7:00 SLT.

    It is not Mama Gkika's, but it is the pub for the Jaegermonsters. Sometimes there are themes, and sometimes there is a free-for-all. People recite their favorite poet's work, and sometimes their original work. Most nights are in chat, but if you ask, we can set up for Voice.

    A Word about the audience appreciation - it usually involves projectiles. Now, the pub grounds are not damage-enabled, but sometimes the chickens or cupcakes or tomatoes can push you into the wall. It is all in good spirits, just make sure your ammunition is temp-rez.

Those interested will be given special suits to wear to compete with one another. The winner still left standing will have a 500L donation to the RFL group of their choice and 500L for their pockets.

Moulin Rouge Party at Steelhead

Last Friday February 10th at 7PM, the Steelhead region held a "Moulin Rouge" event. The dance took place in the Steelhead Shanghai sim. The building it was held in had a basic Asian design, like others in the sim. There were a couple neon designs had been set up near the entrance, but they weren't of dancing girls. They looked more like dragons.

Inside, Fuzzball Ortega, normally acting, as Sheriff, was spinning the tunes as the DJ. I happened to go in just as the signature song from the Moulin Rouge movie was playing, "Can! Can! Can! Can!" About a couple dozen residents were dancing away, as normal for Steelhead parties mostly in period costumes. Most of the dresses were a bit long to do a "can-can" pose in, which might have mildly disappointed a guy or two coming in. But no one was certainly acting disappointed, as the dancers, male and female, cheered the DJ and danced away.

One Mesh dress did appear like a purple box to incompatible viewers, which might have caused a few chuckles. Another lady, looking artificial, had strings attached to her coming down from up somewhere. And for online comic fans, Baron Klaus Wulfenbach was also there.

There was also a huge stuffed pachyderm nearby, but no one paid attention to the elephant in the room.

A number of things were talked about on the dance floor. This included the upcoming Relay for Life season, of which Fuzzball Ortega is the captain of Steelhead's team, the Steelhead Salmons. Later on, I heard Fuzzball would be heading a pre-season RFL meeting sometime in the near future, possibly next week on Sunday.

The Steelheads will be having another event this Friday. Drop in to see what this bunch of mad scientists are up to (someone has to keep an eye on them).

Steelhead Shanghai Events this January

In Steelhead Shanghai, the theme is month is the Chinese New Year. On Friday the 13th, they released numerous paper lanterns into the air. This upcoming Friday is Squirrel Appreciation Day (what the deal with squirrels is, no one at Steelhead had an answer). And Friday the 27th is a celebration of the Year of the Dragon.

All Dances are 7PM SL time at Steelhead City.
