Reader Submitted: Forbiden Topic, or Not?

 

On Sunday, I started a thread, about Putin, and the invasion  of Ukraine. The thread got removed.  So I filed a ticket. Here is the ticket, and the reply.

 On Sunday, I started a thread, and it was closed. I titled the thread "Is Putin insane?' I posted the thread in the general area. There was no trolling in the thread. It was about Putin, and about him calling up nuclear forces.
I see lots of topics that are not about SL. Here are a couple.
What makes you laugh?
What music are you listening to?
Does LL allow topics that are about current events. Like the war going on in Ukraine? I did ask in my post, if there was anybody in the Ukraine, that could still play SL. I know that they do have internet, but I don't know at what speed right now.
It would be great if LL were to  put in a mention, on the SL blog, about the war going on in Ukraine.
One more point. Does LL still collect taxes from players that live in Russia? If so, I suggest that you hold those taxes, until the war is over.

While we often allow off-topic posts on the forums, we have the responsibility to ensure that the forums are a welcome place for all of our Residents in Second Life. In our experience, threads of a political matter often escalate in nature, and we made the decision to intervene before it got to that point. As the original post was closed, I would advise against posting another of a similar nature.

In regards to your feedback about a blog and taxes, this isn't something that Support decides, but we appreciate you taking the time to express your concerns. I'll be passing your feedback along to my supervisor as well.

Town Hall About Tilia Today

At 1PM today, Linden Lab will be holding a Town Hall event to answer questions on the new Tilia Service. For those who can't get into the area, click on video above, or the link on SL4Live's Youtube channel.

While the Lab has tried to calm the confusion about the new service for Second Life residents, such as with the Town Hall meeting and a Q and A thread in the forums, this hasn't been the end of it. Activity in the "Tilia Takes Over" thread picked up following allegations Linden Lab was deleting some posts. While there were posters wondering if the Lab was simply deleting redundant questions, others felt this smelled like censorship. It would appear that whatever happens at today's event, it will not be the end of resident concerns.

Windows 10 October Update Postponed Due To File-Deleting Bug

Windows 10 has had a number of problems since it's release by Microsoft. Last month, it was "warning" users not to use more popular web browsers and use Microsoft's own. But this time there's a more serious problem. On October 2, the "Windows 10 October 2018 Update" was released for Windows 10 insider testers and anyone else whom wanted to go ahead with the update. Soon after, some people were finding important files deleted, including music recordings and pictures. One user posted on the Microsoft forums, "it deleted all my files of 23 years in amount of 220gb. This is unbelievable, I have been using Microsoft products since 1995 and nothing like that ever happened to me." Fortunately, he had backed up his files a couple months earlier, but more recent ones were still gone.

Those whom had already updated were urged to migrate documents in their user directory, and those Windows 10 users whom hadn't to temporarily disable updates. Eventually, Microsoft suspended the update due to the reports of deleted files.

If you use Windows 10, and you're not sure if your computer installed the update, "To check if your system downloaded and installed the update, click the Windows / Start key and then type 'View Installed Update History.' Click that result and then check the last version that was installed. If it wasn't 1809, you should be safe."

Megaprims Accidentaly Removed by Linden Lab, Lab Says Problem Solved

Last night, I was contacted by Jasmine Dawn, whom pointed out to me a thread in the SL Universe Forums. It stated Linden Labs had “blacklisted” someone and their actions in dealing with him had the side effect of removing megaprims with his name on them. There was a link to a JIRA filed about the problem, which had been written down:


Just a few moments ago most megaprims contained in the SALT collection were blacklisted. These megaprims are part of a collection used by most creators across the grid. Any items created with these prims are no longer rezzable. This includes components of a product I work on as well as possibly thousands others. It is not even possible to remove these prims from builds as the items containing them are not rezzable.


This was a potentially big mess, as a numble of builds I knew made use of megaprims such as Tuna Oddfellow’s Odd Ball and Club Zero Gravity. but stopping by the club, it was intact, and Tuna Oddfellow held an impromptu event that night without trouble. I never heard from any of my friends having a build taken down that night.

A couple posters on the SLU Forum thread checked and found of about a dozen makers of megaprims, it was one whose creations were blocked. Looking further, a couple posters mentioned having items taken down, and another those of his customers.

Later on, there was a Grid Status Report about the issue. Apparently, Linden Lab had fixed the problem, and while the affected megaprims weren’t back up, theye were no longer blocked, so those whom had them returned to inventory could rebuild. Those whose builds had disappeared were asked to contact Linden Lab, with a shortcut for Premium members.


[POSTED 10:35AM PDT, 20 October 2011] Due to a change we recently made to address a griefing problem, some megaprims were removed from the grid, which has affected users’ creations containing these megaprims. The issue has been resolved, and the megaprim objects can be re-rezzed from your inventories at this time. If you do not have a copy of the affected build, please go to your support portal immediately and file a case. If you are Premium member or above, you can use these case types: “Technical Questions” > “Objects (Rezzed) Issues. If you have a free membership and your group owned land was affected, please use “Land & Region” > Report an Offline Region”. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and are reviewing our processes to try to avoid repeating this situation in the future.


There was also a post in the official forums, though with no new information.

So hopefully the mess is resolved. But this on top of the mass of sim restarts earlier this week, one wonders what next?
