Team Firestorm's Anniversary Party

Saturday September 6 was the day of Team Firestorm's anniversary party. From 12:30 PM to close to 4PM, various musicians performed music at the intersection of four of the group's sims. When I looked, close to about 140 people were there, so there were likely more earlier.

I arrived too late to see Maxamillion Kleene, but did see Tally Mercury sing live.

Due to the lag and viewer crashes, I could never get a wide shot of the crowd. This picture was the best I could do. After Tally finished his set, DJ Trick returned to do an unscheduled set for about an hour.

There were a few gifts for people to pick up, such as a pet dragon.

Beq Janus, Team Firestorm's manager, was among those there, happily celebrating with everyone, and thanking her teammates and Firestorm's loyal users.

"A special thank you to Teresa, without here you'd probably have to rely on me to remember stuff and organize things and yeah.... that wouldn't happen. Teresa is the true powerhouse behind organizing this party so a massive hug and thank you to her for putting this all together."

For those who didn't make the party, Team Firestorm usually has the freebies up for a few days afterwards. You can get them near Firestorm Ghost Town (14/240/3903).

Happy Anniversary Firestorm

Fifteen Years Ago: The Emeraldgate Scandal

Fifteen years ago early this month, Second Life's most popular then was collapsing, and the one that would replace it would be born as a result of it's demise.  In early and mid 2010, the Emerald third-party viewer had been the most popular one. But in August came a Directed Denial Of Service attack that was caused by computers using the viewer at the time, resulting in what came to be known as the Emeraldgate scandal. On September 1, 2010, Team Emerald announced it would soon be folding. Two days later, on September 3, former Emeraldgate member Jessica Lyon announced she had formed a new team and had made a new viewer "from the ashes of Emerald," Team Phoenix and it's Phoenix viewer.

A few years later, the Phoenix viewer would be retired and replaced by the Firestorm viewer, the team having renamed itself Firestorm as well. Over the years, the team has faced a number of challenges large and small. And eventually Jessica would step down from managing on a daily basis. But Team Firestorm continues on.

SL Video: "Drivers of SL Grid Drive - Bonus Leg 'Relay For Life' (2025)"

From Zada Bury on August 4,  "This kind of "Bonus Leg" was happening after the regular drive. It was gone over the "RFL - Relay For Life" Event. I must say, about the massive content from the "old Linden Homes" , I have been pretty done. Also the Computer-memory was appear to be cluttered ... anyway the RLF was für me laggy and not rezzing right mostly." At 0.59 is a certain familiar face.

Cartoon of The Day: Fish Food

From the Happy Vixen. My friend Meli was enjoying some Asian cuisine. So where did she get it? I came up with one possibility.

EOTB: New Linden Viewer - 2025.06 "Inventory Favorites"

In the official Second Life blog a few days ago, Linden Lab announced a new official Second Life viewer had been released, one with some features as a result of inventory feedback.

The newest Second Life Viewer release is here, and this one is extra special because so many of its features come directly from community feedback. Thanks to the requests and contributions shared on GitHub and through our feedback portal, this update delivers improvements you’ve been asking for.

Second Life Viewer 2025.06 adds an Inventory Favorites system, improves avatar behavior, restores full mouselook pitch, enhances chat and mesh upload tools, and refines environment controls. It includes various bug and crash fixes. Read on for more details!

Named 2025.06, the viewer promises new features, including "Inventory Favorites," hiding the Linden Dollar balance (intended for video streamers), a "zoom in to self" option, improved privacy options, the option to timestamp photos, mesh inspection tools, chat and voice enhancements, fixes to allow avatars to move more smoothly, environment and rendering options, and more.

As a reminder, these changes to not yet affect the Firestorm viewer, which is the preferred viewer by the majority of residents.

The Return of Urban Furry

A club the Newser has written about a few times in the past is coming back. On Wednesday September 3rd, Urban Furry had it's Grand ReOpening party. It started at 2PM, and was scheduled to go on to 8PM. It is owned and managed by Whiskey Ravenhurst.

Urban Furry has been in operation a few times before, Whiskey reluctantly closing it when events in his real life require his full attention. This time, he feels he is able to keep up the place indefinitely.

If the club looks familiar to some, that's because it is. Whiskey was missing the original version of the club. So he brought it back, with a few small alterations. Among the additions, a couple of framed articles from when the location was in the Newser.

For the moment, the club has no regular events. Whixkey says he should have scheduled hours in about a couple weeks, with the times being determined when interested DJs can play.

Urban Furry is at Vector Valley at (193/43/2011).

Early Halloween At Dench Designs

September may have only just begun, but for some people already they're getting ready for Halloween. Gemma Cleanslate decided to check out a few stores which have decorations for those getting ready for the spooky season. So which ones did she see, and what did they offer?

Back At Luskwood, But Where Is Everyone?

It's been a while since I was last at Luskwood, my first hangout. I hadn't heard of anything new for a while. Then someone told me when they were last there, the place was empty. So I went to the big tree to check it out, around 4PM SL time, and aside from a bot, it was.

The place wasn't really empty. People had been putting things up, including autumn leaves, pathways leading to places, a ramen cart, plenty of plants, and more decorations. Just none of the small crowd that was always there in the past. I did see an announcement of events at the H-Bomb club, a venue some of the Luskwood regulars have gone to.

I did end up talking with Michi Lumnin the other day. She had told me she and the other founders were more busy than ever in real life. Hopefully this will change soon, she commented, and eventually get back to organizing things, and eventually new avatars.

Luskwood is Second Life's oldest known community which is still around, as well as the oldest line of furry avatars.

Linden Blog and Forum Oopsie?

I was going to write something on the latest Linden viewer release, but something went wrong with the official blog and forums, at least at my end. Trying to get to them, all I see is what's on the picture on the left.

Why this is, I don't know. Others I've chatted with in SL aren't having this problem.

Hopefully it'll correct soon.

Nature Collective Update

Gemma Cleanslate went back to a favorite place recently, the office for The Nature Collective. It is a great place, and group, to learn about nature parks around Second Life, as well as events. This time, she found something called "Nature Bingo." So what is it?

Read Gemma's story in Places.

The "Corsean Encounter" Book Event

Saturday August 30 at Noon SL time was the "Meet the Author" event at the Premier Business Center, organized by Jarden Alexis, to help publicize the novel I wrote a few months ago, "The Corsean Encounter." About thirty people showed up to hear me talk about the novel, then after the discussion we went to the party room where DJ Nydia played some tunes.

So far, the event has worked with sales going up. And more people are checking out the Newser lately as well (more on that later). We'll have some more pictures up soon.

Cartoon of The Day: Putting Your Foot Down

Taken at the Raglan Shire Wootstock. At one point, the performer Merryjest had his foot in the air, which I caught on camera.
