Relaystock Continues Today

The Relaystock got started yesterday, Friday April 10. The three day tribute to Woodstock lived up to the promise of music and mud, with performers playing music at the stage.

Among those playing the tunes were Trader Whiplash and Nuala Maracas of the Relay  Rockers, standing in for a performer that couldn't make it.

A number of teams have themed campsites. This includes the Sunbeamers, the team of the community where the Newser office makes it's home.

The Sunbeamers have a few items for sale for charity, including a virtual replica of the Victorian Era toilet by Thomas Crapper (yes, women could use it in those dresses).

On this second day of performanices, the schedule is as follows:

  • 8:30am – DJ Melina Firehawk
    Heroes Helping Heroes
  • 10:00am – DJ  Temptation
    VRaze Dreamers
  • 11:03am – DJ Starlight
    Team Darkpaws
  • 1:00pm – LIVE Eva Fae
    Seekers Of Hope
  • 2:00pm – Erika Ordinary
    Relay Rockers
  • 3:00pm – DJ  Kayla & The Roos
    Roos With A Dream
  • 4:30pm – DJ Hell
    Camping For A Cure
  • 6:00pm – DJ Cynthia Farshore

Annoucement: T1 Radio 20th Anniversary Party Sunday June 29

T1RADIO CELEBRATES TWO DECADES ON AIR
Second Life’s First and Oldest Classic Rock Stream Turns 20
With A L$20,000 Loyal Listener Contest!

When Trader Whiplash learned of the plans to close La Vie en Rose and take Radio dAlliez off the air on June 18, 2005, he decided Second Life needed the venue to remain open. The manager of Alliez Mysterio’s club, located on Rue d’Alliez (one of the first private regions in SL), Trader, who was also head DJ and program manager for Radio dAlliez, decided to bring his own stream, T1Radio, on air full time and keep the club open.  Along with Nuala Maracas and later Madelyn Majestic they continued to provide an alternative to the electronic club mix music prevalent in Second Life’s earliest days.

T1Radio would grow into one of the best-known music streams in Second Life. T1 also became the sound of Relay For Life (from 2006 to 2024), the Spoonful Of Sugar Festival and several other mega-events.  Affectionately known as ‘The T’, it operates from LEGENDS Classic Rock in Arinultra Cay. (Itself one of the oldest continuously operated venues on the grid.)

To celebrate the milestone anniversary T1will be holding a Homecoming Party on Sunday June 29th. T1Radio listeners are invited to attend the event at LEGENDS and to bring their oldest snapshot or texture of themselves at a T1Radio event. The attendee who provides the OLDEST photo will win $L20,000.

To enter the contest simply find your oldest photo of yourself at La Vie en Rose, The Warehouse or Chaps, LEGENDS or any other T1 locales in Rue d’Alliez or Arinultra Cay or other T1Radio event. Take a Gyazo of the picture including the data found at the top, showing the SLURL and DATE and the “Properties” menu from Inventory. The picture must include your avatar and an easily identifiable T1Radio venue feature, signage or logo. Information on how to submit the Gyazo will be provided at the Party. You Must attend the event on June 29th to enter and be present at the time of the winner announcement to win.

Today, T1Radio continues to run 24/7, providing a music mix of Classic Rock, blues, pop, modern country and more. The On-Air Staff of Trader, Nuala, Madelyn Majestic, Fuzzball Ortega and Anni Braveheart host dance events each evening from 5pm to 7pm at LEGENDS in Arinultra Cay. You can also listen to the T by placing our stream URL, http://T1Radio.serverroom.us:8242/stream , on your SL property or in your browser, phone, smart speaker or other internet connected device.

Trader and Nuala and the entire air and production staff at T1Radio look forward to seeing all our friends, old as well as new, as we celebrate our 20th anniversary! We are sure there will be some great stories and reminiscences to share!

The Relay Celebrates 4 Million USD Raised

On Sunday January 17, the Relay for Life in Second Life celebrated it's recently having passed the four million US dollar mark of it's total fundraising throughout it's history. The party lasted from 10 AM to 1 PM, and took place on the border of the American Cancer Society sim, and the temporary Christmas Expo sim. The ACS sim had been recently decorated, with pictures marking each year of the Relay's history in Second Life.

There were some things of note about the event. Among them, Patch Linden was there, seated among the members of the Relay Committee. There was also a copy of the first Relay kiosk. Among the announcements were that last year, the Relay for Life in Second Life was the fifth largest chapter in the entire Relay, both real life and online. It was also announced that Nuala Maracas was awarded a place in the RFL in SL's Hall of Honor. She responded by giving a speech (1:45:30 in the video below), "The Relay for Life has given me so much over the years."

Members of the Relay also thanked the Second Life Newser for it's coverage over the years, considering being named its "Volunteers of the Decade" a badge of honor.

There would be a Youtube of the event (Click here if the video above does not play). Wildstar Beaumont would have a number of screenshots on Flickr.

The Relay season in Second Life officially starts with it's kickoff on Saturday February 20. Soon after is the start of the Home and Garden Expo, which lasts from Saturday February 27 to Sunday March 21.

Chrismas Expo Has Raised 2.5 Million Lindens After Five Days

Tuesday December 10 had a couple milestones for the Relay for Life Christmas Expo. Two days earlier on the Sunday Relay Rap, Stingray Rainmaker had stated, "'IF the Christmas Expo meets its goal of $20,000 it will enable the ACS to bring the VR Goggle Program to a new Childrens Hospital and reach many many more Kids in treatment!" That likely spurred the Relayers to donate more. By 5:35 PM Tuesday afternoon, the two million Linden mark had been reached. Late in the night, the total passed two and a half million Linden dollars.

"We are at L$2,566,823," Nuala Maracas, one of the women behind the Expo, told me, "We did L$550,000 tonight, was an amazing night. ... Our goal is $20,000 US  (L$5 Million)." When asked what the high point of the Expo was, she answered, "Seeing communities from all over SL,  Goreans, Kids Tinies and more all coming together to help us get those VR Headsets for the kids with cancer. The biggest one is learning that because of the Christmas Expo that the Society is making this a  program, not just research.

"When I first approached Jeff (Sting), our American Cancer Society Staff Partner, about the VR Headset for pediatric cancer patients as the possible recipient for the Christmas Expo fundraising efforts for 2020, he was not aware it was even a Society program.  He looked into it and learned more.  With persistence the Society agreed and we were able to announce it as our goal! As a result of what we are doing here the Society has decided to make it a patient program and if we reach our goal it will expand to another hospital."

The Expo goes on to Sunday, December 15.

Firestorm Anniversary Party and the RFL Pajama-Rama

This weekend saw two big celebrations in Second Life. On Saturday September 14, the Team Firestorm anniversary party took place. The event was from 3PM SL time to 5PM.  At one point, over a hundred people were at the meeting point of four sims were the music events took place. Two people performed live for the crowd, which included team leader Jessica Lyon and a few others from Team Firestorm.

Besides the music, another attraction was the free gift that was being offered. At a few locations, there was a statue of a firey mule. One just had to click on the statue to get a copy.  For those who didn't get the mule, it should still be available for a few more days. To get it, head to Firestorm Dow Forest (219/229/3901).

On Sunday September 14 was the "Pajama-Rama" party at the American Cancer Society sim. The event was from 11 AM to 3PM SL time. There was a live music performance from Keeba Tammas and the Tiny Maniacs.

Nuala Maracas of the Relay for Life Committee told the Newser, "The Pajama Rama Family Fun Day was an awareness day for Childhood Cancer month.  We reached out to kids communities and groups to engage the role play families in Second Life who many not know about The American Cancer Society campus in the virtual world.  We had a large turn out of over 60 people coming and going through out the 4 hours of the event and were able to raise a lot of awareness about childhood cancer, the survivor and caregiver group here in Second Life, and the services available to everyone at www.cancer.org.   The hunt, sponsored by Sweet Tots, was a huge success.   It was an amazing family fun filled day!"

    Press Release: Relaystock 2015

Once again The Relay Rockers invite everyone to join them on May 23 & 24th at Relay dAlliez, for RelayStock 2015, a multi team Relay For Life of Second Life event.

The event will feature 'Team Sites' around a 60s style festival stage.  Teams are invited to bring Kiosks and Vendors, host 2 hour DJ segments on the stage and participate in one the most popular events of each relay year, the Final Round of the Relay Rocker's Celebrate Remember Fight Back Top DJ Competition. The Rockers anticipate room for about 60 teams this season, so don't wait to reserve a spot!

"The Relay Rockers have been fortunate to have participants from many teams in our CRFB Event" said Rockers Co-Founder Trader Whiplash. "RelayStock is our way of saying thank you for the huge support across the grid for the competition.  It  affords every team the opportunity to share in a super fund raising event. This is just another example of the One Team concept in Relay.  It doesn’t matter whose kiosk or vendor the donations land in, after all we are all on the same team in the end." Trader noted that in 2014, the original RelayStock event raised more than L$ 1.5 million and more than 50 teams participated.

The event will be held at Relay dAlliez.  Relay dAlliez is dedicated to the memory of Alliez Mysterio, who with Nuala Maracas and Trader Whiplash,  helped found the Relay Rockers team in 2005. Alliez was lost to breast cancer in 2013.  The sim was first made available in 2014 to any team to hold Relay For Life events. Press Release: "An Invitation to Bid Me Bald - Trader Whiplash & Nuala Maracas"

From July 27 through August 10 we will be participating in a BID ME BALD Fundraiser to support The Relay For Life of Second Life & the American Cancer Society on Behalf of Hands, Hearts & Hope.  We would be honored if you would make a donation on our behalf to help. As a BID ME BALD participant we am offering our hair to help find a Cure For Cancer.

BUT THIS HAS A TWIST ...............

    Bid Me Bald Challenge..

A  'Shaved" Head to Head Competition Pitting 2 Relayers in a Fundraising Race!

Here's how it works.. Two Relay Volunteers - Sebastian and Bailey -  place Kiosks Side for 2 weeks and challenge their friends to donate. Each $L5000 earns 1 day without hair, but here comes the twist!

On Haircut day the totals of BOTH Kiosks are combined to determine the number of days without hair. The days are then assigned to the participant with the LOWER Total!

*Note.. In the interest of fair play and chivalry either challenger can declare they will accept the bald days regardless of totals. (All Bribes to be paid to the Kiosk!)

We are challenging all our friends to come and donate  to our special kiosks and  BID ONE OF US BALD! Our goal is to raise at least $L50,000 each (20 days of baldness).

Kiosks will be out from July 27 thru 4.30pm on August 10 @ (SLURL)

Make Your Choice! Who will be combing their hair with a towel?

Please come and help!  We all know that cancer patients have no choice when their hair falls out during treatment, but we do, and through Relay for Life we can do something to help those people, our loved ones and ourselves, by joining together to FIGHT CANCER!

$L1000 equals $4.35!  A Small amount to anyone! Please Consider a Bid of at least that amount, but remember, every single linden makes a difference!

                                                Please accept our Challenge and
                                                               BID ME BALD!!!

    Until There's A Cure,
    Nuala & Trader

*Bid Me Bald recognizes, with honor and respect,  those for whom the choice was made, not by themselves, but by Chemo and other cancer treatments.

We have the choice and we choose to sacrifice our hair to honor these Survivors and to help the American Cancer Society find ways to fight cancer, support survivors and their caregivers and help us all celebrate more birthdays.*

At the Avi Choice Awards, Or Maybe Not

Yesterday at 3PM, the 2013 Avi Choice Awards took place. Trouble was, one needed tickets to be allowed in the four sim area at the Christmas Expo where it took place. And yours truly hadn't quite remembered to get one. So was watching them from an auxillary location at the beach docks near where T-1 Radio is located. one could watch it on the screen there, or on a HUD provided at the docks. The event was also broadcasted on T-1 Radio. Treet TV, which has broadcasted many events on Second Life live, wasn't showing it this time.

The show had a few glitches, such as one of the hostesses not rezzing, and at one point the computer handling the broadcasting crashed, showing the Windows startup screen, followed by a "please update your Firestorm." Despite these glitches, the event was viewed by over 600 people at times, and attended by over a hundred at the Expo region. The list of winners at http://avichoiceawards.com/ has not yet been published.

Thank you for those who voted for me in the "best blogger" category.
