Scenes From New Year's Eve 2016

On the night of December 31, Second Life bade farewell, or cursed good-riddance, to 2016, and rang in the new year of 2017. Different communities and locations had their own parties and celebrations.  From the Sunweaver's Goblin Cave, to the Furry Fashion Lounge's "Lem n' Ems" event, to the "Prim Drop" in Bay City, there were plenty of events.

Prettykitty Gumbo sent over several screenshots from the Relay Weekend. One was of the Second Life Coast Guard team's members standing at attention during the Luminaria hour.

GoSpeed Racer, Trader Whiplash, Speak on Rising Cost of Internet Radio

Music by radio has been with us for many years. When computers and Internet came to be, it was possible to play music over streams over the web. When Second Life came to be, each sim had the ability to have a certain station as background music. But are some of these stations in danger of being silenced? At the beginning of the year, new regulations concerning the operating costs of licensed stations inside the United States went into effect. The result is for smaller radio stations there, including many licensed streams in Second Life, running them has become much more expensive.

Ringing In The New Year Across Second Life

A number of places across Second Life held events to say goodbye to 2015, and ring in 2016. One place was "Eiffelicious" at LEA7.

Dozens of residents attended the party under a replica of the Eiffel Tower made by Regi Yifu. But when yours truly dropped by, a few of the guests there were a little, less than pleasant to others.

A much friendlier event awaited those at "T-1 Radio's 11th Rockin' New Year's" at the "Legends Pier" at the Arinultra Cay sim. Trader Whiplash, best known for his music events for the Relay for Life, played for the crowd from 7PM SL time to Midnight SL time when 2016 officially arrived on the Grid.

A number of noted Relayers would appear there as well at different times in the night.

A number of communities held their own events. New Babbage had their event, which began as England was ringing in 2016.

There were a number of pictures in the background of noted people and events across the year. The DJ also proved flexible, when seeing someone in a squirrel avatar playing the song "Squirrels." Though some avatars were more appropriate for a Steampunk event.

New Babage wasn't the only Steampunk-themed place to have an event that night. McLaglen Noonan Museum Garden at Caledon Cay had a smaller one. Cynthia Farshore took this picture at the tail end of the event.

And the Sunweaver/Angels community would hold their own event at the Happy Vixen beach club in the Purrfection Estates. Although the event was touted as no formal attire required, many felt the most appropriate outfit they could have on was a gown or suit.

DJ Akea played the tunes for the first half of the event from 6-8PM SL time. from 8 to 10PM, DJ Rose spun the music. And at 9 and 10 PM, the Sunnies celebrated as the New Year was rung in on the East Coast and the Central US time zone respectively.

Other places had their own events. The ROMA sims had an event earlier in the day as 2016 was rung in across Europe. Luskwood called off it's New Year's Eve event due to Shady Fox's illness, though the Pony sims would have an event in honor of Ponyland, which went offline late that night (more about the event later).

Happy New Year Second Life

Scenes From The Relay: The Microkitty and "The Hair"

Before  the Relay Weekend, there were a number of pre-weekend parties that took place over the course of the week before. This included the night before, Friday July 17, of which at 5PM a party started at T-1 Radio's camp at the Relay Track.

Among those present was Fuzzball Ortega, the lycan sheriff of Steelhead, and the head of Team Steelhead Salmons, whom had his signature "The Hair" with him, which he had gotten years ago to honor a challenge, "the wackiest, wildest, hair around."

"The Hair" is a massive hairpiece, with a ballroom with small figures built in. But was it too small to keep out the smallest avatar in the Relay for Life, Lomgrem Smalls? He decided to try and find out ...

Nope. Lomgren could fit right in the miniature ballroom of "The Hair." Getting inside the lycan's actual head, well, that was another matter.

Stay tune for scenes of the Relay Weekend.

At the Avi Choice Awards, Or Maybe Not

Yesterday at 3PM, the 2013 Avi Choice Awards took place. Trouble was, one needed tickets to be allowed in the four sim area at the Christmas Expo where it took place. And yours truly hadn't quite remembered to get one. So was watching them from an auxillary location at the beach docks near where T-1 Radio is located. one could watch it on the screen there, or on a HUD provided at the docks. The event was also broadcasted on T-1 Radio. Treet TV, which has broadcasted many events on Second Life live, wasn't showing it this time.

The show had a few glitches, such as one of the hostesses not rezzing, and at one point the computer handling the broadcasting crashed, showing the Windows startup screen, followed by a "please update your Firestorm." Despite these glitches, the event was viewed by over 600 people at times, and attended by over a hundred at the Expo region. The list of winners at http://avichoiceawards.com/ has not yet been published.

Thank you for those who voted for me in the "best blogger" category.

*Update: the list of winners has been published*

Today marks the final day of the Relay For Life's Christmas Expo this year. For ten days, the event in which over seventy merchants put up items to sell for charity, and numerous DJs provided music for events have taken place. So it's the last chance to drop by to enjoy the scenery and events, such as the announcing of the Avi Choice Awards today at 3PM. To see what awaits you there, the Newser has taken a number of screenshots of the Expo grounds.
