The Flood Party, Next Year's Theme Announced

Wednesday June 11 at 4 PM was the last big event at the Relay tack, the Wrap Up party. Though it's better known as the Flood Party.

It would take place at RFL Advovacy and Awareness. The water level was raised to the point people needed floaters to keep above it.

The event started when a sim manager on a whim in 2010 flooded a sim a few days after the Relay Weekend, and people rushed over with floaters and inner tubes. It became a Relay tradition.

The Sunbeamers didn't bring a float, but a DWUK Army vehicle.

The event would be recorded (click here to view).

Besides the revelry and fun, there were also a few announcements. The most important was that the theme for next year had been decided, Wild For A Cure.

Following the event, a few would rush off to take down their campsites. But most would wait until the following day, Thursday June 12.

Go Relay!

The Last Relay Events

For many teams in the Relay for Life in Second Life, the Relay Weekend is the end of activities. For some however, the time remaining is used to pull off one or two more events. And of course there is the last event of the season, the Relay Wrap-Up. The Newser would see some of the teams last events, and of course the Wrap-Up.

The Relay Wrap-Up

It was the end of another successful season for the Relay for Life. 2016 "Once Upon a Cure" had seen many events and millions of Linden dollars raised to help the American Cancer Society. Now it was time to bring the season to an official close with awarding some individuals and teams for their efforts, announcing the theme for next season, and give overall congratulations for a job well done. For one certain reporter, there was a surprise at this year's Wrap-Up.

The Weekend at a Glance

There were quite a few events that took place this weekend. Saturday saw Tuna Oddfellow's tenth rezzday celebration, with two of his Odd Balls that day. It was also the grand opening of a new club, Coeur D'Ame. Sunday had the Relay for Life season Wrap-Up at the Rose Theater, and at the Ivory Tower of Prims residents gave their respects to it's builder, Lumiere Noir. On both days at Raglan Shire, their "Wootstock" 60's tribute took place.

We'll have more for you later. For now, the newx crew is tired and needs some rest before writing up on these events, and more.

Press Release: Fantasy Faire Wrap Party

Another dawn approaches- the light rustling of small animals unseen quiets as the horizon lightens to the east. Fireflies continue their coded messages in  flight, reluctant to end a mating dance till it repeats again tomorrow. Are they something other? - is that a soft giggle or water rushing over the stones of the dark brook between the reeds? We cannot know if we do not attend the gathering. Wrap Party- Fantasy Faire 2015 June 13 noon till midnight SLT on Selidor Sim. Call for your coach!

For those who couldn't be there or had sound trouble, T1 Radio broadcasted the event on the Internet.

The Kickoff event will be on March 9, 2013, with the Relay Walk on July 13-14, 2013. MamaP Beerbaum announced she was stepping down as the Chairwoman, "On one hand it is sad to say goodbye, but I will be relaying for years to come." For 2013, Nikki Mathieson will have the chair.

And with the song "One Hundred Years to Live," fireworks began going off outside the building, with the event officially coming to an end, "Have a great offseason," "It's hard to say goodbye to Relay." "Good night everybody."
