Nuala Maracas' Birthday

Tuesday was the real-life birthday of Nuala Maracus, a noted Relayer. And Trader Whiplash threw a "surprise party" for her at his "Legends" club. A number of Relayers showed up, or in one case, sending his alt. As it turned out, the birthday girl herself did the DJing.

A number of "Roos With a Dream" showed up, though without their characteristic Outback gear.

There was a little talk about a corvette in the area, Arizona Ballinger saying, "It is equipped with a cam so Fuzz can't drive it." Trader mused, "I leave it there to tease Fuzz. ... After Arizona dumped the ice from the zamboni on the biker gangs, it was suggested NOT to ride it on the track anymore." Arizona chuckled, "They were not a happy group." Lady Ren 'Jinx' Flow (Ren Float) joked, "Just tell them 'Chill!'"

Happy Rezzday Nuala.

A Great Relay Weekend

This past weekend was the Relay Walk, often called just the Relay Weekend. On Saturday June 11, many of us gathered at the American Cancer Society2 sim to listen to the Opening Ceremonies.

Following that, the teams would go to their camps to cheer on the survivors and caregivers at their lap.

And it was soon time for the team lap.

The various sims were packed with traffic.

There were avatars of all kinds, from these mecha and huuuuuge Godzilla avie.

To smaller avatars, such as tinies and smaller ferals.

And a couple times, I was the tiny, with the themed laps.

And there be dragons around.

Fuzzball Ortega was out with "The Hair."

There were some well-designed builds, such as this designer sim by Fiona Fei.

There were plently cheering on those going down the track.

Over a thousand were on the track, with thousands of miles walked. Bain Finch would later say, "Total meters from all Relays 424,220,356 meters which works out to be 263,598 miles walked , 10-1/2 laps of the Earth."

Eventually the Walk was officially over, but people didn't want the fun to end and partied for hours.

Stay tuned for more pictures, once we've had some more time to rest.

*Addition* For those who haven't seen the Relay sims, Wednesday is the last day most of the builds will be up for sure (there's always "that guy" who takes down his build early). Thursday is the takedown day. Sometime on Wednesday will be the "Flood Party" in which a sim or two or three gets filled with water.

Paradise Fire Benefit Party

Last week was a busy one with the Linden Town Halland the CDS Election. But there were other stories such as a fundraiser for a Relay team captain whom was among those whom lost their homes and possessions in the wildfire that burned the town of Paradise California to ashes. So to help her get back on her feet, the Relayers held a fundraiser party at The Golden Tambourine. Not only was the original goal met, but so was the next one set.

Scenes Posted From the Relay For Life Volunteer Group

In the final days of the Relay Track, a few Relayers posted a few scenes.

"In memory of the Daleks. Who says Dr. Who fans don't have a sense of humor?"

Lominola Rehula had an avatar challenge in which if a certain amount was donated into her kiosk, she'd don one of RacerX Gullwing's giant snail racer avatars for seven days for the second year in a row. It was met, so she posted about it, "I'll be a giant snail again for one week. :-) "

On Friday July 24, the Giant Snail Racing team made Gold Level.

Another Dr. Who picture, this one from one of the team.

Wildstar Beaumont posted this picturesque farewell scene, "See you next year."

Sunbeamers Raise 5000L For RFL at "Booty Call"

Yesterday from 4 to 6PM SL time, the Sunbeamer Relay for Life team held an event at the space station club Zero Gravity. The event was part of the "Booty Call" organized by team leader Rita Mariner.

Hey folks! Tonight, the Sunbeamers are having a special event at Club Zero Gravity for the Relay for Life, the "Booty Call." So dress as to how you would go about as being party to a booty call. And yes, we can include pirates as they're after more than one kind of "booty." So provocative or pirate, you make the call. And don't forget to give generously to the Relay kiosks.

The event was attended both by those part of the Sunbeamer team, other Relayers, and friends of. Relayers such as Oldesoul and Madonna made appearances. A total of over 5000 Lindens were raised in the two hour event. DJ Cynthia provided the tunes.

Sunday is the final day of the Sunbeamer's "Booty Call" with a special event at Club Cutlass on Sunday, a "Knights and Damsels" event in which residents get their chance to "Bid Rita Human."

Relay For Life: After the Walk

Bixyl Shuftan continues his coverage of the Relay For Life sims. Even with The Walk over, there are still things to see and do. The camps and builds offered plenty to see. And then there were the Relayers themselves, who were determined to have fun while the sims were still up.

Phony Relay for Life "Agent" Scamming Well Meaning Residents

In the Relay for Life chat a few days ago, one of the Relayers had some news, "I need to report something to you all and ask you to watch out and spread the word. Giving you a heads up, there's been a newbie running around various sims that sponsor RFL, claiming he's an agent … and to please donate L$'s to him." "Him again?" groaned another member. It was mentioned that the Relay sponsoring sims were banning him, but, "The problem is if he goes to sims NOT connected to RFL, where he might (seem) more plausible."

While it's not normally illegal to solicit money for charity, claiming to do so as an "agent" of the Relay for Life when one isn't certainly counts as fraud. So this individual, and anyone else like him, is liable to have his account, alts and all, banned. And if the Lab sees fit to notify the police, there is the possibility of arrest and jail time.

But until he's caught, the Relayers remind all that they collect their Lindens through kiosks. And of course the Relay for Life is a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.
