SL Machinima: A New Babbage Xmas by the "Designing Worlds" Team

A little Steampunk Xmas story, by Saffia Widdershins and Elrik Merlin

"Saffia and Elrik are visiting New Babbage to deliver a shipment of seasonal gifts from Prim Perfect Publications to the urchins of New Babbage. Saffia will be meeting our old friend, the Assistant Maceholder of New Babbage, Victor Mornington, to deliver the gifts, while Elrik hopes to get a look at some of the exciting new steam-powered technology developed for the winter season by their ingenious engineers. And this is New Babbage, after all, so absolutely nothing at all can go wrong…"

SL Machinima: "2AM" By Chantal Harvey

"Machinima by Chantal Harvey, made at Bryn Oh's Standby installation at IBM sims in SL.
The song "TWO AM" is by Grace McDunnough.
Machinima made by Chantal Harvey. http://mamachinima.eu

Grace McDunnough is an independent artist from Atlanta, GA. Grace began performing live music in the virtual world of Second Life in 2006 where she still performs regularly. An entertainer and modern bard with heart and soul to spare, Grace throws down a variety of acoustic sets with an old guitar, rich lyrics and powerfully raw vocals for a growing international fan base. http://phasinggrace.blogspot.com/

Bryn Oh is a metaverse artist who is meant to exist only online. She is a concept, a pixel character who inhabits the virtual world of Second Life. The idea is to see if a virtual identity can succeed within the real world of flesh and blood artists. http://brynoh.blogspot.com/

This machinima is filmed in Second Life tm - at IBM sims.
Since 2006, IBM has maintained a presence in Second Life which has included the venerable IBM 6 sandbox, a home and training ground for some of the grids most talented builders, both IBMers and non IBMers, and the IBM 2 and IBM 3 Exhibition Sims. Through the operation of these areas, IBM has recognized that community building and social content creation are a key part of the value of virtual worlds. http://exhibitionspace.org/about.cfm

The song TWO AM inspired me to create this machinima, it has been haunting me - till I was invited to the Standby Art installation by Bryn Oh. I want to thank Bryn for letting me film there, and thanks Grace for allowing me to use her song. I hope I did justice to it.
Lyrics of TWO AM were written by Salome Strangelove. "

The RFL Walk: Bryn Oh's "Mayfly" Exhibit

The Relay for Life Walk, one of the biggest yearly events in Second Life, is finally over. Having set a new record for the season total raised at over $370,000 US dollars raised, it can only be considered a success.

Yours truly didn't have time to write much about it, but there was one exhibit which stood out with both it's simplicity and the name of the builder: Bryn Oh.

For those not familiar with her, Bryn Oh is a noted artist on the Grid, sculpting prims like a painter glides a brush across a canvas, and creating intriguing machinimas of her work. She has done a number of works, including "The Rabicorn," and "Anna's Many Murders."

Bryn Oh was here at the RFL walk with a build of her own, one based on her latest machinima, "Mayfly." To music that I found a bit haunting and sad, the camera zoomed in on the flying insects, as the lines of poetry described the lowly life of the Mayfly larvae, finally getting a chance to soar into the sky for one day, before it's end.

The build, where it could easily have been filmed, is unique for it's simplicity compared to most other builds, but still detailed with the plants and mayflies. Plus, it's the one secton of track where it goes under water. Those mindful of getting wet shouldn't worry as the water isn't too deep.

Bryn Oh's "Mayfly" is at 2011 Relay For Life of Second Life, RFL Knowledge (61, 127, 22). While it will be around for longer than an adult Mayfly, like it's namesake it will only live for a short time before it goes away.

Stay tuned for more on The Relay for Life Walk.

10 Little Aliens

Among the things that almost got lost in the news due to the Linden troubles and SL7B was a charming little Machinima by Chantal Harvey. This one was made for a competition in which the winning short film would appear on the children's show Sesame Street. But she didn’t get it in without trouble.
