Reader Submitted: Farewell Party For Oz

From Panterapolnocy. On Feb 23, a party was held at Simon Linden Land in Denby in honor of Oz Linden, whom retires from the Lab tomorrow. His last public appearance will be at the Lab Gab that day.

"Thank you for everything good you've done for the platform of Second Life and the residents that use it - making their lives fun and more interesting. "

Linden Sighted at "Feed a Smile"

On Wednesday February 17, the Lavender Field at "Feed a Smile" got a certain visitor at one of their events: a Linden. Simon Linden had dropped by.

Jed Luckless was playing the music. Moondance Resident was doing some particle effects. So the place was a big laggy. Yours truly (through an alt) didn't stick around long.

"Feed a Smile" helps out children in the country of Kenya in Africa. A donation of 100L is enough for a meal. But they also help out with education and medical care. The location in Second Life frequently holds charity events to help raise money.

For more information, check out their blog at - http://feed-a-smile.blogspot.com/ or their website at - http://leben-lernen-kenia.org/

Update on the "Teleport Disconnects"

Earlier this month, Linden Lab came out and admitted what the residents had more or less figured out, Second Life was much buggier than usual, especially when it came to teleporting from sim to sim or crossing sim borders. So has there been improvement since then? Maybe some. Checking "Modem World," Inara Pey stated "There have been mixed reports on the outcome of the deployment made on Thursday, April 18th, 2019, with some indicating matters have improved, others reporting no real change. In particular, people visiting Fantasy Faire and travelling around the new Linden Homes continent appear to be faring a lot better than had been the case."

Simon Linden was quoted as saying at the Simulator User Group, " for server news, many of us are focused on the teleport issues … I hate to promise anything, but we all know a lot more about TP internal problems than we used to (smile) . We do understand they’re annoying and a frustrating problem – we definitely want to fix it and make it better."

Earlier, some residents wondered if the Lab moving data to Cloud servers was the cause of the glitches. Lately, there's been a new suspect, the EEP or Environmental Enhancement Project. Simon did admit that the problems appearing just after the release of EEP was "suspicious" and they were "trying to sort out is if somehow the environmental work caused the TP problems." He didn't think the glitches were related to avatar complecity, though stated "that said, the more complex your AV is, the more work it needs to change regions. It’s always been better to have fewer scripts and data for teleports and region crossings."

On a personal note, I myself seem to be having fewer problems with teleport disconnects, though there are still other glitches such as the viewer freezing for a bit. Some friends of mine are still crashing when teleporting around, so it seems the problem is still around.

Meeting Lindens at the SL14B

You'll come across many hundreds, perhaps thousands, of different people going about the SL14B. One I came across was a newcomer here on day one, whom I talked to some and gave her a landmark to "The Shelter." And among those there were some Lindens. One I found skipping down the path: April Linden. She stopped to chat with me and a couple friends at the Second Life Coast Guard exhibit.

The "Gridbun" as she called herself was happy to pose for a picture with Skylark Lefavre, the manager of the Happy Vixen club. Skylark is a big bunny fan and happy to see the furry Linden going about as one.

A chance to meet more Lindens was at the Masquerade Ball on Monday June 19, which ran from 11AM to 1PM at the Cake Stage. Yours truly showed up as an avatar with it's own built-in mask.

Unfortunately for me, and presumably a number of others, the large number of avatars present (and perhaps some of what they were wearing) kept causing my viewer to overload and crash. The pictures I managed to take were mostly of crowds half-rezzed, half-naked, or both. This was the best picture I could get of Xiola Linden, who organized the event, before my Firestorm quit on me again. There was at least one other Linden at the event, Simon Linden, but I never did see him with my crashy viewer.

There was a 5000 Linden dollar prize, which was won by Polly Ellsmere.

There will be one other event in which you can expect Lindens to show up, the "Come As You Were" party, also at the Cake Stage, today from 6-8PM SL time.

The Simon Linden Bear Hunt

Last week I wrote about a skiing place in Wengen. Something caught my eye when I was near the summit. I was looking around to make sure I did not miss any options for the skiiing when a tiny object sticking out of the snow caught my eye. Being a nosy reporter I cammed in on it and clicked.

“Hi - Do you want a Simon Linden bear? You'll need to say all four of the magic words you picked up on the trip. If this makes no sense, chat 'help' and you'll find out.”

Wow I thought , you don’t see Linden bears like you used to years ago. They are hard to come by. “

"I didn't get the magic words.   Did you type them in chat?   Touch me to try again.”

I was too far away so moved closer and tried the word help again.

”Glad you made it here, Gemma Cleanslate.  I hope you enjoyed the view. Here is some more information.” And I was handed a notecard.

“Do you want a Simon Linden Bear. These are no longer just given away to everyone who comes along ... you have to go on a treasure hunt to find one. To get a  bear, first go to the .... and look for a bear.   Click on him and he will tell you what to do next.  You'll have to answer a few simple questions. On the way, you'll get several notecards with instructions and 'magic words' that are needed for the next step.   Keep these - if you get stuck, go back and read them carefully. You will also need all of the magic words at the end to receive your bear. Good luck! - Simon Linden  P.S.   If you get totally stuck, or there's something not working right on the quest, please send me an IM“

This point where I was standing in the middle of nowhere at the top of the ski lift was END of a quest. Swell, now I had to find the beginning . I was directed to Simon Linden’s office in Linden village as the place to get the first clue and here is the address . http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Denby/211/36/33

I am not going to reveal anymore ... it is a hunt .. so I will leave you here in Denby at the office if you want to go follow the clues and get your bear. I got mine!

Now I want to find out if any other lindens are having quests for their bears. I will let you know. Maybe this is not new but it is new to me and maybe to you .
